The Coruscanti, inhabitants of the planet-wide city of Coruscant, served as the historic capital of the galaxy during both the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire's age. This homeworld of the human species was influential throughout the time, and some notable individuals from Coruscant include Letta Turmond, Inspector Tanivos Exantor Divo from the Coruscant Security Force, and Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum. The Empire replaced the Republic at the conclusion of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, ushering in a new system where absolute power was held by the Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine.
In the early years following the Republic's fall, many Coruscanti, particularly those in the upper levels of Imperial City, welcomed the change in government. A primary reason for this acceptance was the relief at the end of the Clone Wars' destructive impact. However, Emperor Palpatine, who had appointed himself to the throne, rarely appeared in public, leading some Coruscanti to remember Chancellor Valorum fondly. Following the Emperor's death in 4 ABY, Coruscant was plunged into a civil war as many Coruscanti took to the streets and rioting occurred in Monument Plaza to celebrate the end of Palpatine's rule.
Coruscanti were often recognized by their perceived superior accent, which was frequently linked to propaganda broadcasts, rebel satire, and the Imperial elite during the Empire's reign. They were also known for their principled nature and their ability to skillfully argue in debates and politics. Chieftain Gruppe noted that the human females of Coruscant were not known to carry or deliver their own progeny, instead employing others for this purpose.
