The drink was packaged in a dark blue bottle, which featured a grey top and a lighter blue label displaying the name of the beverage in Aurebesh. The name of this particular drink was a reference to another beverage, the non-alcoholic blue milk.
The initial appearance of Dark Blue Milk occurred in "Rampage," the fifth episode from the first season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, an animated television show. This episode was originally broadcast on May 28, 2021. Subsequently, the drink made appearances in other episodes of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, including "Decommissioned," "Battle Scars," "Common Ground," and "[Infested]"(/article/infested) all of which were part of the show's first season. It was also featured in "Spoils of War," the opening episode of season two, which aired on January 4, 2023, and in "Faster," which was broadcast on January 18, 2023. Concept art depicting the alcoholic beverage, created by Chris Madden, was unveiled in the episode guide for "Rampage" on StarWars.com; this art showcased Dark Blue Milk alongside other alcoholic drinks displayed on the shelves of Cid's Parlor.
