Cid's Parlor

Cid's Parlor, situated on Ord Mantell within Ord Mantell City, functioned as both a gambling establishment and a bar. Ciddarin Scaleback, a Trandoshan of the female persuasion, managed the location. Beyond its entertainment offerings, Scaleback also operated as an information broker from this base, providing assistance to the Jedi during the Clone Wars and, subsequently, to the Bad Batch throughout the Imperial Era. Patrons could partake in various games, notably dejarik and slot machines.

Description

Cid's private office

Cid's Parlor was found down a staircase leading from a dirty alley in Ord Mantell City, placing it mostly underground. A sign with the name "Cid's" in Aurebesh, accompanied by a picture of dice, marked the entrance. Inside, the main room was dimly illuminated. It featured a central bar area with seating, a sizable oblong holotable, and a bench along the back wall, closer to the entrance. Smaller holotables were set up for dejarik games, and slot machines were positioned around the room's perimeter. The bar served a diverse selection of alcohol, including drinks such as Deep Core, Whyren's Reserve, Mooften, Oo'ta Goo'ta, Reactor Coolant, Dark Blue Milk, Thermal Detonator, and Wicked Womprat. The drinks were displayed prominently on shelves behind the bar.

Ciddarin Scaleback used a back room as her office, where she would hold meetings with clients. Inside were shelves, a desk, a chair, and a holotable. The office was decorated with various trophies, like clone trooper helmets, an axe, a mounted horn on the desk, and a fur pelt behind the chair.

History

During the [Republic Era](/article/republic_era]'s closing years, Ciddarin Scaleback, a Trandoshan informant, managed the cantina and maintained connections with the Jedi. During the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars], the ARC trooper Echo learned of Scaleback's existence and whereabouts via his Jedi officers. Following the Jedi Order's destruction and their designation as enemies of the newly formed Galactic Empire, Echo and his unit, the Clone Force 99, deserted from Imperial service. They also took Omega, a young, genetically enhanced clone created by the Kaminoans. After a bounty hunter targeted Omega on Pantora, the "Bad Batch" decided to seek information from Cid, based on Echo's suggestion.

Cid Scaleback gives the Bad Batch their first job.

After landing on Ord Mantell, the squad made their way through the city streets to Cid's Parlor. Upon entering, they were initially unsure of Scaleback's identity, as Echo had never actually met her. Hunter inquired with Scaleback, who was occupied with a slot machine, if she knew the owner, but she denied it. The only other individuals present were regular customers Ketch and Bolo, who were arguing over a game of dejarik that quickly turned into a physical altercation. Observing the state of the establishment, Tech speculated that Scaleback might have been arrested for health code violations. Omega, after interacting with a holotable, identified Scaleback and informed the rest of the squad, after which Scaleback led them to her office.

The Batch presented Scaleback with a hologram of the bounty hunter and explained their needs. In exchange for the information, Scaleback hired them to rescue Muchi, whom she claimed was a child endangered by Zygerrian enslavers. Upon their agreement, Scaleback provided Hunter with a data disk containing the requested information, and they departed. However, Muchi was not a child but a young rancor belonging to Jabba the Hutt, a crime lord. After the squad's departure, Scaleback was contacted in her office by Bib Fortuna, Jabba's majordomo. Scaleback assured Fortuna that Muchi would soon be returned, stating that threats were unnecessary as she had her "best people" working on it.

Despite some challenges, the Bad Batch successfully completed the rescue, defeating the slavers and freeing their slaves before returning to Ord Mantell City with Muchi. Fortuna had visited Scaleback in person with two Gamorrean guards, further pressing for Muchi's immediate return. Further discussion was cut short when Fortuna heard Muchi nearby, leading him to rush out of Scaleback's office to greet the rancor. Fortuna compensated Scaleback for the job and departed with the creature, after which Scaleback asked Hunter to accompany her to her office. She paid him his squad's share of the credits and provided him with the intelligence she had gathered on the bounty hunter, Fennec Shand, and her employer. Scaleback also offered Hunter additional mercenary work for the Batch, stating they would need both allies and funds to survive in the new era.

Subsequently, the Batch remained on Ord Mantell, spending time at Cid's. Under Echo's supervision, Omega practiced using her new energy bow in the bar's main room, while Ketch and Bolo wagered on her accuracy, using a target constructed from crates and a slot machine. A woman entered during the practice session but was frightened away by a stray shot, for which Omega apologized. Practice ended when Scaleback appeared and, after dismissing Ketch and Bolo, requested the Batch to undertake another job for her. She used one of the bar's holotables to explain the mission, which involved the squad breaking into a decommissioning facility on Corellia to steal a tactical droid for the intel it contained. Hunter initially hesitated but eventually agreed, and the Batch departed for the Core Worlds.

The mission to Corellia was unsuccessful because the tactical droid's head was destroyed. Hunter chose to give the copied data to smugglers Trace and Rafa Martez, who were also after the head and whom Hunter believed would use the information responsibly. However, the sisters learned the Batch's base of operations and shared the information with their contact, former Clone Captain Rex, a friend of the Batch. Some time later, he traveled to Ord Mantell and, disguised with a hooded cloak, entered Cid's, where he ordered a drink and observed from a corner, unnoticed among the other patrons. The Batch soon returned to the cantina from a mission to retrieve a stolen lizard from the Rhokai. Upon meeting the clones at the bar, Scaleback commented on the lizard's strange appearance, engaging in a conversation with Hunter about her indifference to her client's intentions as long as she was compensated. She went into her office and asked the clones to follow her. Hunter surveyed the room and noticed the cloaked figure in the back, but dismissed it before Wrecker and Omega requested permission to go on leave, which he granted after they argued that it was a tradition.

In her office, Scaleback paid Hunter less for the job than she had initially promised. When Echo questioned the mutual benefit of their arrangement, Cid retorted that she was being generous considering their debt. Hunter inquired about the amount, and she provided him with a datapad listing expenses for port and docking fees, fuel, rations, and cartons of Mantell Mix, a snack food Wrecker and Omega had started consuming after missions and charging to Scaleback's account. Scaleback informed the clones that to settle their debt, they needed to achieve another significant score, similar to the potential value of the tactical droid. She further warned them to resolve the situation before they experienced her unpleasant side, prompting Tech to make a remark about Scaleback's appearance. Before she could respond, however, the conversation was interrupted by two blaster shots from the main room.

Shortly after Hunter had entered Scaleback's office, some other patrons had left, leaving Bolo and Ketch as the only people in the cantina besides the disguised Rex. Offended by the man occupying "his" seat, Bolo approached Rex and demanded that he move. After Rex pointedly ignored them and took a sip of his drink, Ketch pointed out to his friend that the man was ignoring them, leading Bolo to reiterate his demand. The situation quickly escalated, and Rex drew one of his blaster pistols and fired two warning shots, causing the duo to flee the cantina in terror as Scaleback, Hunter, Tech, and Echo rushed into the main room from her office. As Rex placed his gun on the table, Scaleback demanded to know his identity. Hunter, Tech, and Echo immediately recognized Rex when he lowered his hood, and Scaleback, exasperated, declared that she was finished taking in strays and that her establishment was not a clone bar, leaving while complaining about how clones acted as if they owned the place. Rex remarked that it had been a while, and when Echo asked him where he had been, he replied that it was a long story.

The clones sat at the bar and ordered drinks while Rex updated them on his activities, mentioning that he had been maintaining a low profile since the end of the war. Tech confirmed this, informing Rex that the Empire had listed him as killed in action. When Echo asked how he had found them, Rex mentioned the Martezes, adding that they had informed him the Batch was traveling with a kid and asked who that was. Hunter revealed that Omega was a clone, which surprised Rex, just as Wrecker and Omega returned. Wrecker recognized Rex instantly and greeted him warmly, lifting him off his stool in a bear hug. Omega was surprised to see him greeting a "reg" so warmly, as she had believed the Batch disliked normal clones, but Wrecker clarified that they liked this one.

Hunter introduced Omega to Rex, and he told her he had never met a clone like her before. He was impressed when she correctly deduced that he was a Generation One clone, but the conversation took a serious turn when Wrecker began experiencing one of his recurring headaches. Rex became alarmed when he realized that none of the Batch had removed their implanted inhibitor chips, which had been used to turn the clones against the Jedi, as Tech had concluded their deviant nature protected them. Reaching for one of his pistols, Rex warned them that the chips were more dangerous than they realized and made them a threat to everyone, including Omega. He relaxed only when Hunter asked him how to remove the chips, and said it was a good question and he would be in touch. Rex later arranged for the Batch to meet him on Bracca, to use the medical bay of a wrecked Venator-class Star Destroyer to perform the surgeries.
