Martez family

The Martez family, consisting of the sisters Trace and Rafa Martez along with their parents, were humans residing on Level 1313 within the underworld of the planet Coruscant as the Galactic Republic neared its waning days. The tragic Senate hostage crisis resulted in the death of Trace and Rafa's parents, leaving them as orphans to struggle for survival.

Later, the Martez sisters formed a bond with Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Padawan. Tano accompanied them on a failed spice delivery operation that spanned from Kessel to Oba Diah. With Tano's assistance, the sisters successfully evaded capture by the Pyke Syndicate, which improved their perception of the Jedi. After the Galactic Empire came to power, the Martez sisters aided a resistance movement by obtaining crucial technology to combat Imperial rule.

History

Orphans

During the final days of the Galactic Republic, the Martez family, which included two parents and their daughters Trace and Rafa Martez, made their home in the Coruscant Underworld on Level 1313. The Senate Hostage Crisis in 21 BBY brought immense sorrow to the family when both mother and father of Trace and Rafa were inadvertently killed as a consequence of the Jedi's efforts to recapture Ziro Desilijic Tiure, the escaped Hutt gangster. This left the sisters to fend for themselves in the harsh environment of the Coruscant underworld. As a result of this devastating event, Rafa and Trace developed a deep-seated resentment towards the Jedi Order, holding them responsible for the death of their parents.

Following the loss of their parents, Trace secured employment as a mechanic and became the owner of a repair shop situated in Level 1313. Meanwhile, Rafa took on the role of owning and managing a laundromat. In addition to their individual ventures, the two sisters jointly possessed a Nebula-class freighter known as the Silver Angel. The sisters faced constant financial challenges as they struggled to make ends meet, with Trace grappling with accumulating debts and Rafa resorting to stealing from her customers. They also dedicated their efforts to working on modified binary loadlifters.

Adventures with Ahsoka Tano

As the Clone Wars drew to a close, the Martez sisters encountered Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Padawan who had departed from the Order. After a crash-landing on Trace's platform, Tano was befriended by Trace. In exchange for repairing Tano's speeder bike, Tano assisted Trace in fending off Pintu Son-El, an alien debt collector. Subsequently, the Martez sisters entered into an agreement to assemble three modified binary loadlifters for Lokann, a Twi'lek. However, one of the droids malfunctioned and went rogue, necessitating the sisters to disable it with Tano's help.

To settle their growing debts, Rafa accepted a commission to transport spice from Kessel to Marg Krim, the crime lord of the Pyke Syndicate, located on Oba Diah. The sisters became entangled in a dispute with Tano regarding the ethical implications of exporting spice, which Tano considered to be a dangerous narcotic. Fearing the potential loss of her ship, a distraught Trace made the impulsive decision to jettison the spice into space. Upon arriving on Oba Diah, the Martez sisters attempted to deceive Fife, the Majordomo, into believing that they had successfully delivered the spice. However, Fife was not easily fooled, and the Pykes proceeded to detain the sisters and Tano.

The Pyke Syndicate took the Martez sisters and Tano into custody, imprisoning them. During their time in captivity, Tano gained insight into the Martez sisters' history and the tragic loss of their parents. Rafa was subjected to interrogation and torture by her captors, who sought information about the whereabouts of the missing spice shipment. When it was Trace's turn, she managed to break free from her captors and successfully liberated her sister and Tano. The trio then orchestrated an escape from the prison, making their way into Oba Diah city. However, their freedom was short-lived as they were recaptured following a confrontation with Pyke Syndicate forces.

Later, the trio was brought before Krim to face punishment for their actions. Tano managed to secure the sisters' release by falsely claiming that they had concealed the spice offworld. Krim then dispatched the Martez sisters to retrieve the spice within a single rotation, threatening to execute Tano if they failed to comply. The Martez sisters successfully stole a shipment of spice from a Pyke facility and returned to Krim's palace on Oba Diah. By this time, Tano had orchestrated a second escape attempt and discovered that the Pyke Syndicate had connections to Maul, the former Sith apprentice. Upon returning to Oba Diah, the Martez sisters learned about Tano's Jedi identity. With Tano having planted detonators in the stronghold of the Pyke Syndicate, the trio was able to flee Oba Diah aboard their ship.

After returning to Coruscant, Tano and the Martez sisters parted ways on amicable terms. Despite Tano's departure from the Jedi Order, Rafa held the belief that she embodied the most admirable qualities of a Jedi due to her selflessness and strong moral principles. The Martez sisters were present when Bo-Katan Kryze led a Mandalorian delegation to visit Tano, seeking her assistance in ending Maul's reign over Mandalore.

Resisting the Empire

In the time shortly following the formation of the Galactic Empire, the Martez sisters began working to obtain various technologies. Their goal was to assist a resistance movement fighting against the oppressive rule of the Empire. During a mission on Corellia, the two sisters attempted to steal the head of a Separatist tactical droid. However, they found themselves in competition with the group of rogue clones known as the Bad Batch and their young companion Omega. These individuals had been hired by Cid, a Trandoshan, to acquire the droid's head.

Despite their differing objectives, the two groups collaborated to fight and evade several police droids. Although they were unable to secure the tactical droid's head, the Bad Batch provided the Martez sisters with a data rod containing information extracted from the droid. This decision was made after they learned that the sisters were fighting against the Empire. The Martez sisters also developed a close and supportive relationship with Omega, who admired and looked up to them. Later, the sisters recounted their encounter with the Bad Batch to Rex.
