Oba Diah

Oba Diah, the homeworld of the Pyke species, was a planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. Positioned at the terminus of the Kessel Run, the Pyke Syndicate oversaw the distribution of spice originating from Kessel, delivering it across the galaxy from their high fortress of the Pyke Syndicate located on Oba Diah.

History

Leading up to the Invasion of Naboo, Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum dispatched Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas along with his aide, Silman, to Oba Diah with the intention of resolving an internal conflict within the Pyke Syndicate. This conflict threatened to escalate into a large-scale gang war on Coruscant. Not long after their arrival, the Jedi High Council rerouted Sifo-Dyas and Silman to Felucia. Subsequently, the Sith contracted the Pykes to destroy their vessel, resulting in a crash on the Oba Diah moon. This action resulted in death of Sifo-Dyas, and Silman was held captive by the Pykes as collateral against the Sith.

Years later, amidst the Clone Wars, Jedi Master Plo Koon discovered Sifo-Dyas' T-6 shuttle on the moon. This discovery prompted the Jedi Order to launch an investigation into Sifo-Dyas' disappearance. With assistance from former Chancellor Valorum, the Jedi were able to establish a connection between the Pykes and Sifo-Dyas. To investigate, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi journeyed to Oba Diah, where Lom Pyke, the Pyke leader, revealed that a figure known as Tyranus—secretly the Sith Lord Count Dooku—had paid them to assassinate the Jedi Master, who had already died. Lom also disclosed that Silman was still alive, but Dooku soon arrived and killed Silman. The Sith Lord then engaged the Jedi in a lightsaber duel on Oba Diah, during which they discovered that Dooku was, in fact, Tyranus. The Pykes then joined the fray, compelling Dooku to withdraw, but not before he managed to eliminate Lom.

As the Clone Wars neared their end, Marg Krim assumed leadership of the Pyke Syndicate. When Ziton Moj, the head of Black Sun, suggested a merger between the two crime syndicates, Krim declined. In response, Moj orchestrated the abduction of Krim's wife, Tezzka Krim, along with their children, Vram and Laalee. Krim found himself unable to rely on his subordinates within the Pyke Syndicate for assistance, as several of them were challenging his authority within the organization. Consequently, Krim hired Asajj Ventress, a former Sith apprentice, and Quinlan Vos, an undercover Jedi Master, both working as independent bounty hunters, to rescue his family. Ventress and Vos successfully extracted Krim's family from the Black Sun fortress located on Mustafar. However, Black Sun retaliated against the Pykes by initiating an assault on their stronghold situated on Oba Diah.

Following the fall of the Empire, Oba Diah became too unstable, or "embattled", for the spice trade to continue without issues, resulting in the Spice Runners of Kijimi taking over much of the Pykes' business.

Concept art for Oba Diah by David Le Merrer

Oba Diah was initially featured in "The Lost One," the tenth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' sixth season, also known as The Lost Missions. David Le Merrer, an artist, created concept art for both the planet and its moon in 2011. The planet's name was originally spelled "Obah Diah" at that time.
