Darkside, a space station, was constructed upon an asteroid situated within the Cularin asteroid belt. The criminal organization operating in the Cularin system utilized it as a repair facility. The station garnered an unfavorable reputation among smugglers, with numerous workers requesting transfers citing psychological distress, ultimately influencing the station's moniker. Another potential explanation for its name was that the station was constantly in the shadow of three larger asteroids.
The personnel stationed at Darkside were generally taciturn and focused on their duties. The station's supervisor was the Bothan named Vin Tal'benes, who frequently voiced his dissatisfaction due to the shortage of skilled technicians, often receiving personnel deemed unsuitable for other assignments. High personnel turnover compelled Tal'benes to consistently train new arrivals.
In the dimly lit and infrequently accessed rear corridors of Darkside, peculiar shadow lurkers were known to inhabit, depleting the electrical energy from power cells found in devices such as blasters and glowrods. The station's crew generally disregarded these creatures, seemingly choosing to ignore their existence. Another enigma within Darkside's back corridors was a green room capable of teleporting to various locations on the station accompanied by a red flash.
Payday on Darkside occasionally transformed into a festive occasion when Nirama dispatched supply shipments. The arrival of quality food and beverages warranted celebration, and on one instance, a musical ensemble was even sent. The cantina on Darkside was simply called Bar. Previously, Darkside was under the control of Nirama's predecessor, Riboga the Hutt, although Riboga's policies concerning Darkside remain unknown.
The Cell, a dissident faction within the Organization seeking to overthrow Nirama, maintained a presence on Darkside in 32 BBY, but were considered insignificant troublemakers. Nevertheless, a raid conducted by Nirama's forces eliminated the local leadership (excluding Ahlya, Dor Balse, Kruss Gaal, Jarrilyn, Jasper and Michael, all of whom were low-ranking members of the Cell). Unaware of the extent of the disruption caused to the Cell, Nirama dispatched a team of spies to Darkside. These spies successfully located the remaining Cell members and handed them over to Nirama.
Despite the simultaneous departure of the spies and the capture of the Cell leaders, the majority of Darkside's inhabitants failed to connect these events, as personnel movements were commonplace. Local security chief Nala Noos understood the implications but, owing to her loyalty to Nirama, chose not to disclose the presence of Nirama's undercover operatives. Subsequently, Noos was reassigned to Rothe Gate.
