Dezanti Zhug

Dezanti Zhug was a male bounty hunter of the Duros species hailing from Duro, who also held the position of leader within the Zhug brothers bounty hunter organization. Following acts of violence committed against a rival family, he and his fellow hunters were banished from their homeworld, eventually finding refuge on Nar Shaddaa, the moon of Nal Hutta. After G0-T0, the local crime lord of the Exchange, placed a bounty on the Jedi Exile known as Meetra Surik—a former Jedi Knight—his group initiated their pursuit of her.

In the year 3951 BBY, after Surik's arrival on the moon, a number of Zhug brothers launched an attack on Surik and her allies, but Dezanti was not with them, and their attempts were futile. Following Surik's departure from Nar Shaddaa, Dezanti tracked her to Iziz, which serves as the capital of Onderon. The ship of the Zhugs', a Heraklon-class transport, and Surik's freighter, known as the Ebon Hawk, were both shot down by the Onderonian blockade amidst the Onderon Civil War. Subsequent to crash-landing on Dxun, the moon of Onderon, Dezanti, along with two of his Zhug brothers, made an attempt to assassinate Surik, however, they died in their endeavor.

Biography

Dezanti Zhug, a Duros male hailing from the planet Duro, held the leadership position in the Zhug brothers bounty hunter organization. The Zhug brothers, who saw themselves as a "family" because they shared the goal of bringing Duro under their control, were exiled from their homeworld after they committed violent acts against a rival family. They then took up residence on Nar Shaddaa, the moon of Nal Hutta, often referred to as the "Smuggler's Moon." As the Dark Wars neared their conclusion, G0-T0, the local crime lord of the Exchange on Nar Shaddaa, offered a substantial bounty for Jedi, which prompted the Zhug brothers to initiate their hunt.

In 3951 BBY, Meetra Surik, the former Jedi Knight, made her way to the Smuggler's Moon. In response, G0-T0 convened a gathering of various bounty hunter factions aboard his yacht, named the Visionary. The crime lord cautioned the bounty hunters against interfering with the Jedi while she was present on the moon. In response, Dezanti and Azanti Zhug, the Zhug leaders who represented their organization at the meeting, declared that G0-T0 was insane for preventing them from hunting when she was so close after they had been searching for the Jedi throughout the galaxy. Surik was invited to meet with Visquis, the Quarren representative of G0-T0 on the moon's surface, to discuss the bounty placed on her. Subsequently, she was captured and then imprisoned by the crime organization aboard the Visionary. The bounty hunters interpreted this as the end of the truce, taking the meeting as a signal to begin their hunt. Too impatient to wait for Dezanti, Azanti, along with two other Zhug brothers, attacked Surik's companions on the Smuggler's Moon. Additionally, eight Zhug brothers launched an unsuccessful attack on Surik aboard the Visionary.

A Heraklon-class transport ship—the same class as the Zhugs' freighter

After the Zhug brothers' failed assaults on Nar Shaddaa, Dezanti pursued Surik to the planet Onderon. As the Ebon Hawk, Surik's freighter, and the Heraklon-class transport ship of the Zhug brothers' arrived in the Japrael system and attempted to make a landing in Iziz, the planet's capital, both parties encountered a blockade that restricted them from entering the planet's atmosphere. Shortly after the arrival of the two ships, the blockading fleet initiated fire on the Ebon Hawk. During the ensuing space battle of the Onderon Civil War, both ships were compelled to land on Dxun, the moon of Onderon, due to the damage they sustained from the Onderonian separatist forces. Following their crash landing on the moon, Dezanti and two of his surviving Zhug brothers encountered Surik and two of her companions, who were traversing the jungle. Dezanti proclaimed that he would not fail as the other Zhugs had before him, and he attempted to intimidate Surik into surrendering.

The Jedi offered money to the Duro to leave her alone, but he refused, claiming he would not break the deal he had made with G0-T0.

After ordering his fellows to attack Surik and her companions, Dezanti and his minions were defeated and killed in the subsequent fight.

Personality and traits

Dezanti and two brothers preying on Meetra Surik next to their wrecked ship

Dezanti Zhug displayed arrogance and disrespect as a bounty hunter. He referred to the other Zhug brothers who had previously encountered Surik as "lesser brothers." His disrespectful nature was evident in his belittling of other bounty hunters and his demeaning treatment of Surik. Furthermore, like the Zhug brothers in general, he held the Zhugs in high regard as an effective and formidable bounty hunter group. During his final confrontation with Surik, Dezanti conveyed his strong aversion to breaking deals.

Behind the scenes

Dezanti Zhug was a member of the Zhug brothers, a minor villainous bounty hunter group featured in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, a video game released by Obsidian Entertainment near the end of 2004. Within the game, the player, who controls the Jedi Exile, has the option to visit multiple planets after departing from Telos IV. This article assumes that the Jedi Exile visits Nar Shaddaa before traveling to Onderon's moon Dxun, as presented in Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords: Prima Official Game Guide.

During the exchange between Dezanti and the Jedi Exile, the player has the option to simply initiate a fight without attempting to avoid it. If Mira, one of the bounty hunters on Nar Shaddaa, has joined the Exile's party and is present during the encounter with Dezanti, there is the possibility of offering the Zhugs to fight Mira first, an offer that Dezanti declines.

"Message to Spacers 9", an article penned by Patrick Stutzman and released in 2007 as an online supplement to the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game, provided details regarding the events that led to the Zhug brothers' crash landing on Dxun, along with information and history about the ship model they utilized, revealing it to be the Heraklon-class transport ship.
