Dominik Mayer, a German concept artist and illustrator, was born in Germany on January 30, 1991. His portfolio includes a loading screen for the 2017 video game Fortnite within the Star Wars universe. Additionally, he has designed covers for The Essential Legends Collection reprints of four novels from the Star Wars: The Old Republic series, and for the novel Knight Errant.
Born in Germany on January 30, 1991, Dominik Mayer's initial contribution to the Star Wars franchise was creating the loading screen art for Chapter 3: Season 3 of the 2017 video game Fortnite. This artwork, entitled "Sith Ascension," was incorporated into Fortnite on June 5, 2022 as part of a cosmetic bundle that featured the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. Players had the option to acquire the loading screen, which would then appear while they waited for matches to load. On June 6, Mayer shared his artwork on social media, expressing his delight in working on the project. He mentioned how much he enjoyed depicting Vader in his unique artistic style, and later noted that it was his favorite piece he had created for the franchise.
Furthermore, Mayer produced the cover art for The Essential Legends Collection reprints of the 2011 The Old Republic novels Deceived and Revan, penned by Paul S. Kemp and Drew Karpyshyn, respectively. Both of Mayer's designs were also utilized for the audiobook versions of these novels. Del Rey, the publisher, announced Mayer's involvement and unveiled his cover art on June 21, 2022. The reprinted novels were then released on November 1 of the same year.
In 2023, Mayer crafted the cover illustrations for The Essential Legends Collection reprints of the novels The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance and The Old Republic: Annihilation, including their respective audiobook adaptations. These novels were written by Sean Williams and Drew Karpyshyn, respectively. In the following year, the artist also completed the cover art for the reprint of the novel Knight Errant, authored by John Jackson Miller.
