Echo Stone

The Echo Stones, originating from the enigmatic Planet X, were potent Force artifacts that served as pathways for both the light side and dark side aspects of the Force. These stones had the capability to intensify an individual's connection to the Force, enabling its unpredictable application. The Sith Lord known as Darth Ravi sought after the power held within the Echo Stones. The Tolemite people integrated Echo Stones into three rods, granting them dominion over the Nameless, beings that consumed the Force and also came from Planet X.

During the time of the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Barnabas Vim, along with his Padawan Vix Fonnick, journeyed to Angcord in pursuit of artifacts, where they stumbled upon an Echo Stone. The Jedi shattered this artifact, resulting in the scattering of its fragments across the galaxy. Following this mission, Vim dedicated his life to the study of Echo Stones and discovered one held by a Jedi Master on Petris Major. Vim then made an attempt to return both Echo Stones in his possession to Planet X, but his vessel sustained damage within the planet's Veil, leading to his disappearance.

Description

Fonnick shatters the Echo Stone

Echo Stones possessed the capacity to strengthen and magnify connections to the Force. The duration of an individual's link to an Echo Stone directly correlated with the enhancement of their abilities. The Echo Stone located on Angcord exhibited an exceptionally potent connection to the Living Force, influencing the overall health of the entire planet. This stone functioned as a conduit for the Force, enabling Angcord to be sustained by the light while simultaneously being tainted by the darkness. Individuals connected to the stone could gain substantial power in the Force, as demonstrated by the Lady of Angcord and the pilgrims residing on Angcord. While Echo Stones had the potential to foster life and growth, they could also transmit energy from the dark side of the Force to those who were connected to them.

History

Ancient times

The Rod of Seasons and Rod of Daybreak, two of the three rods the Tolemites placed Echo Stones into

Planet X, a mysterious and idyllic world deeply intertwined with the Force, served as the birthplace of the Echo Stones. More than ten millennia prior to 228 BBY, the Tolemite people embedded Echo Stones within three rods, thereby gaining the ability to command the Nameless, a species native to Planet X that subsisted on the Living Force. The Tolemites had brought the Nameless to their homeworld Tolis, but their population was devastated as the Nameless consumed the Force within them, leaving a blight in their wake. The Three Ancients, the Tolemite leaders, employed the three rods containing Echo Stones to guide the Nameless back to Planet X, hoping to rescue their people and halt the spread of the blight.

At some point well before 382 BBY, an Echo Stone was concealed on the planet Angcord to shield it from the Sith Lord Darth Ravi. The inhabitants of Angcord utilized the stone to amplify their connection to the Force and enhance their power. Legend suggests that Darth Ravi discovered an Echo Stone on the Dead Moon of Gothol. However, he lacked the strength to control its power, resulting in his own destruction and the stone's demise when he attempted to wield it.

High Republic Era

Around 482 BBY, during the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Barnabas Vim and his apprentice Vix Fonnick journeyed to Angcord in search of Force artifacts. The Lady of Angcord, along with the pilgrims of Angcord, drew strength from the Echo Stone, which corrupted them and the planet itself. Master Vim sensed the growing darkness on Angcord and cautioned the Lady of Angcord about the danger surrounding the Echo Stone. However, both the Lady of Angcord and the First Pilgrim disregarded Vim's concerns. After a dream that exposed the true threat posed by the Echo Stone, Vim and his apprentice acted to destroy it. The Echo Stone was effectively shattered, liberating the Lady of Angcord from her dark and enraged state. Vim and Fonnick then transported the fragmented pieces of the stone to various locations across the galaxy in an effort to establish balance on Angcord.

Tar'ak Borran with his Echo Stone on Petris Major

Vim then committed himself to the study of Echo Stones, aiming to reduce their potential danger and prevent their use as weapons. He eventually learned that his longtime friend, the Jedi Wayseeker Tar'ak Borran, possessed an Echo Stone on the planet Petris Major. Vim undertook a lengthy voyage to find Borran on the planet, discovering that Borran's Echo Stone was gradually consuming him and causing him to become ill. Borran then requested Vim's assistance in saving an Oolorian settlement from an immense wave that threatened to destroy it. By working together, Vim and Borran channeled the power of the stone to raise a massive stone wall from the ground, holding back the wave. Subsequently, Borran—injured from using the stone—consented to give the stone to Vim for safekeeping. Borran revealed that the Echo Stones originated from Planet X.

Vim then journeyed to Planet X, intending to return Borran's Echo Stone and his Echo Stone shard from Angcord to the planet. While navigating the planet's perilous and turbulent Veil, Vim left a final message for Fonnick, explaining his actions. However, Vim's ship sustained damage from the Veil, and he was never heard from again.

Around 382 BBY, Jedi Knight Azlin Rell searched through the Jedi Archives at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for information pertaining to the Echo Stone.
