Eseni

Eseni, a female Twi'lek of the Lethan variety, was a member of the religious order known as the Pilgrims. During the time of the Cold War between the Republic and the Sith Empire, she made her home on the planet of Tython alongside her fellow Pilgrims. As a conflict arose with the indigenous Flesh Raiders, Eseni, along with some other villagers, attempted to betray the Jedi Order to the Flesh Raiders' leader, the Dark Jedi known as Bengel Morr. Under the coercion of Morr, Eseni and her fellow Pilgrims attempted to kill a young Padawan who had previously rescued the village's crops from Flesh Raider sabotage. However, the Jedi used a mind-trick on them, peacefully resolving the standoff.

Biography

Eseni, a female Twi'lek, identified as a member of the Pilgrims, a religious group that established a settlement on the planet Tython during the Cold War era, a period of tension between the Republic and the Sith Empire. In defiance of the Galactic Senate's denial of settlement rights, the Pilgrims constructed Kalikori village nestled between the Jedi Temple and the Tythos Ridge mountain range. They strived to survive on Tython, facing persistent attacks from the native Flesh Raiders. In the year 3643 BBY, the Flesh Raiders initiated a coordinated offensive against both the villagers and the Jedi Order, prompting the Jedi to offer assistance to the villagers in an effort to quell the Flesh Raider menace. Eseni was a witness to a Flesh Raider incursion where the Raiders contaminated the village's crop fields by planting toxin mines. After a scout succumbed to the toxic fumes and collapsed, Eseni urgently went to inform the village leader, Matriarch Ranna Tao'Ven.

Tao'Ven was in a meeting with the young apprentice of Jedi Master Orgus Din, and both she and Eseni pleaded with the Padawan for assistance against the Flesh Raiders. The Jedi successfully eliminated the toxin mines and killed the saboteurs, thereby safeguarding the village's food supply. However, Bengel Morr, the Dark Jedi responsible for the Flesh Raiders' recent actions, approached the villagers with an offer: in exchange for helping him capture Orgus Din, his former mentor, Morr pledged to protect Kalikori from further assaults. The villagers accepted the offer and dispatched a fraudulent distress signal, luring Din back to the village, where Morr's Flesh Raiders overpowered and captured the Jedi Master. Shortly thereafter, Morr contacted the village and altered the terms of their agreement, now demanding that they also kill Din's Padawan. Eseni, along with Scout Chief Moorint and another villager named Saylew, then proceeded to the Matriarch's building, where the Padawan had just arrived and was conversing with Tao'Ven and the astromech droid T7-O1.

The villagers attempt to kill the Padawan.

Moorint fired a dart laced with a sedative and painkiller at the Padawan, while Saylew shot T7-O1 with an ion blaster. Tao'Ven, however, was incensed and rushed to the Jedi's defense. As the Jedi struggled to maintain consciousness, Tao'Ven began to argue with Eseni and the other villagers, refusing to permit them to kill the Padawan. After the apprentice recovered from the dart, Moorint explained that Morr had modified their agreement. However, the Padawan reached out with the Force and convinced the trio to peacefully vacate the building. Fortunately for the villagers, they were spared Morr's wrath when Din's apprentice defeated the Dark Jedi and rescued Din.

Personality and traits

Eseni, being a member of the Lethan Twi'lek subspecies, possessed red skin and violet eyes. She demonstrated a susceptibility to the young Padawan's mind tricks.

Equipment

Eseni possessed a small blaster which she wielded when attempting to eliminate the Padawan. Like many of the Pilgrims, she was dressed in dark-gray clothing.

Behind the scenes

Eseni made her initial appearance in the Jedi Knight-class mission entitled "The Face of the Enemy" within Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game that was launched by BioWare in the year 2011. She resurfaces in the mission "Dark Temptations," where players have the option to eliminate the villagers for dark-side points, unsuccessfully attempt to persuade them to leave for light-side points, or use Force persuasion to convince them to leave for maximum light-side points. Given that the Jedi Knight is a Republic character and is therefore assumed to make choices that maximize light-side points, this article operates under the assumption that Eseni survived.
