A remarkable natural formation, the Fountain of Ancients, stood proudly within the Derelkoos Desert on the planet Klatooine. The Klatooinian people revered it as a sacred location, interpreting it as an emblem of enduring strength and a testament to the virtues of perseverance and patience. According to Klatooinian beliefs, it was a divine offering from their gods, the Ancients.
Following the subjugation of the Klatooinians by the Hutts, the Fountain of Ancients occasionally became known as the Fountain of Hutt Ancients. This alternate name served to honor those whom most Klatooinians believed to be the Ancients.
The Fountain resided in a depression shaped like a bowl, marked by a fissure at its center that penetrated Klatooine's surface. From this fissure, liquid wintrium emerged, interacting with the atmospheric conditions of the desert. Over a span of ten millennia, the wintrium would gradually cool and contribute to an ever-changing glass "sculpture," resembling a plume of water suspended in time. Even the most seasoned spacers considered the Fountain to be a truly stunning spectacle.
Serving as a focal point for both religious and political affairs on Klatooine, the Fountain of Ancients was located near the palace from which the Klatooinian Council of Elders governed. Given its status as a holy site dedicated to the Ancients, the Council mandated that the area surrounding the Fountain must remain unchanged from its earliest state. Consequently, modern technological advancements were forbidden within a kilometer radius of the Fountain.
In the year 44 ABY, the Sith ChaseMaster frigate known as the Starstalker attacked the Fountain under the command of High Lord Sarasu Taalon. The Sith forces swiftly overcame the Fountain's defenses, easily defeating the Klatooinian guards, who were armed with primitive weaponry. Despite facing considerable challenges, the Sith Sabers Marjaak and Anyul successfully extracted wintrium samples from the Fountain using their lightsabers. However, a Hutt task force arrived in the system and seized both the Starstalker and its sister frigate, the Winged Dagger, bringing the crews of both ships to justice.
Although Vyn Holpur, the Captain of the Starstalker, had acted upon Taalon's directives, which were conveyed to him by Leeha Faal, the Captain of the Winged Dagger, the two judges presiding over the trial, Lando Calrissian and Jedi Knight Jaina Solo, lacked conclusive evidence of Faal's involvement. Consequently, they could only convict Holpur and his crew of desecrating the Fountain, sentencing them to death. Furthermore, despite the Hutts' failure to safeguard the Fountain, Solo and Calrissian acknowledged that they were still grappling with severely limited resources in the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong War and had exerted every effort within their means to protect the sacred site. Regrettably, their judgment came too late—a violent uprising erupted across Klatooine as the Klatooinians rebelled against their Hutt overlords.
