Genel, a Duros Jedi youngling, was a member of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. After the rise of the Galactic Empire and the execution of Order 66, he was among those who managed to escape alongside K'Kruhk and Chase Piru.
Genel, a Duros, belonged to the Soaring Hawkbat Clan. This clan was located at the Jedi chapter house on Bogden 3, awaiting transportation back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. This transport was delayed because of the battle occurring there. When Masters K'Kruhk and Sian Jeisel arrived accompanied by clone troopers, Order 66 was initiated. Several younglings were killed, despite Du Mahn's attempts to protect them. Eventually, K'Kruhk and Chase Piru managed to escape with nine younglings to an unknown location. Two months later, the young Jedi was living in exile with the group of younglings, learning under K'Kruhk's guidance.
Genel was there when Lumbra and his followers arrived at the youngling's camp. Lumbra decided to take a piece from their damaged ship, as they needed it. Seddwia, another youngling, confronted Lumbra as he approached the ship, demanding he leave it alone and stating it was their ship. Lumbra responded by grabbing Seddwia's arm and pulling her away, which led to a confrontation. Chase Piru intervened to help her, but he was shot and presumed dead. Upon realizing they were Jedi younglings, Lumbra's group chained them up, intending to hand them over to the Empire.
K'Kruhk freed the younglings, momentarily abandoning Jedi principles. With Chase Piru's assistance, he used arrows to take down Lumbra's men. K'Kruhk then killed Lumbra and his companion, Callow, with his lightsaber. Disturbed by his actions, K'Kruhk decided to leave the Soaring Hawkbat Clan after safely dropping them off on another planet, not wanting to constantly remind them of what he had done.
When their ship was shot down over Arkinnea, Genel was with Master K'kruhk, Piru, and the rest of the Soaring Hawkbat Clan. He was situated in a refugee camp and later ate dinner prepared by Master Zao. He was present as Zao shared their daily lesson. Under the cover of darkness, Genel, along with the other younglings and Jedi, escaped the refugee camp and headed into the Arkinnean countryside. He and the other younglings foraged in fields, gathering Beelpop melons and other vegetables. When K'Kruhk returned with a pack beast to assist them on their journey, Genel rushed to greet him. They continued their journey, with Genel napping in the back of the repulsorcart with the other children. Upon reaching a hill, Genel joined the other younglings in racing Piru to the top. Reaching the summit, Genel was horrified to find a mass grave where the Arkinnea Militia had been dumping refugees to their deaths. He offered comfort to Sidirri. He then watched in terror as an ore carrier flew over the valley, dropping another load of refugees to their deaths. Realizing they had been spotted, K'Kruhk used the Force to throw Genel and the others into the back of the cart. The vehicle careened to the bottom of the hill and crashed into a tree, ejecting Genel and the others.
After recovering from the crash, Genel and the other younglings followed Zao deeper into the forest. They hid upon hearing blaster fire. Genel was present when the Yunu discovered the Jedi group. The Arkinnea Militia caught up with both groups and held them at gunpoint. As the militia began firing, Zao used the Force to lift a boulder from the ground, providing them with cover. Genel fled with Piru and the other younglings but returned after the blaster fire ceased. Following the battle, Genel and the rest of the clan followed the Yunu further into the forest. He greeted K'Kruhk when he rejoined the group. Genel settled into his new home and continued his Jedi training.
