The Ginmids constituted a sentient species. Possessing bipedal locomotion, they had two hands, each with five fingers, light green skin, and a somewhat flattened nose featuring noticeable nostrils. Sometime before the First Order-Resistance War commenced in 34 ABY, a Ginmid named Tommet Sozach held the position of commander within a mercenary army comprised solely of Ginmids. Following a prolonged era of peace across the galaxy, the aforementioned army was dissolved, leading Sozach to pursue an independent path, earning his livelihood as an entertainer specializing in trick shooting.
By 35 ABY, Sozach—who had since transitioned into a personal defense instructor and was under a death penalty due to a fatal mishap during one of his marksmanship performances—occasionally experienced regret regarding his decision to relinquish command of the Ginmid army, the majority of whose soldiers had since retired. During that year, Sozach found himself at the Spice Runners' Den, situated in Kijimi City on the Mid Rim Territories planet known as Kijimi.
The Ginmid species made its initial appearance in the 2019 sequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, with Phill Woodfine playing the Ginmid character Tommet Sozach. Jake Lunt Davies was responsible for the creature's design, while Calum Alexander Watt, a costume concept artist, developed a concept art piece for the character. The species' name was formally established in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book accompanying the film and authored by Pablo Hidalgo.
