Hat Lo

A human crime lord known as Hat Lo paid a visit to the Outlander Club on the planet of Coruscant in 22 BBY, accompanied by Ayy Vida, his enslaved consort. While at the club, he made use of the private bar owned by the Baath brothers, the club's proprietors, as Vida provided entertainment for his associates and clients. Soon after his visit to the club, Lo boarded the AA-9 Freighter-Liner named Jendirian Valley, which departed from Coruscant en route to the planet Naboo.

Biography

In 22 BBY, Hat Lo, a human crime lord, was gaining prominence but had not yet garnered enough attention to pose a threat to criminal organizations such as the Black Sun. On one cold and rainy night during that year, Lo and his enslaved Twi'lek consort, Ayy Vida—who was forced into servitude as his concubine against her will—sought refuge within the inviting, brightly lit Outlander Club, situated in the Uscru District of Coruscant.

Although the club was losing its appeal among the more adventurous members of the elite, Lo's conspicuous presence signaled the emergence of a new type of clientele. Such was Lo's growing influence over the Baath brothers, the club's owners, that he helped himself to their private bar, while Vida engaged in conversation with Achk Med-Beq, one of Lo's associates, and subsequently entertained the crime lord's clients.

Not long after his visit to the club, Lo embarked on the AA-9 Freighter-Liner Jendirian Valley. The vessel departed from Coruscant's western spaceport, carrying both refugees and freighter trampers, and headed towards the Mid Rim planet Naboo. During this voyage, Lo was seated in the freighter's hold, in close proximity to the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala, who were traveling discreetly disguised as refugees.

Personality and traits

Lo possessed brown hair, fair skin, and blue eyes.

Equipment

Lo was seen wearing a blue robe that extended to the floor, featuring a very tall collar.

Behind the scenes

Hat Lo made an appearance in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, a film belonging to the prequel trilogy that premiered on May 16, 2002. The Jendirian Valley scene was shot within the art department's storage area, located in building 48 at Fox Studios, Sydney. Lo can also be spotted sitting near Skywalker while Amidala awakens him from a nightmare on the ship, in the deleted scene titled "Anakin's Nightmare." Within current Star Wars canon, Hat Lo's identity was first established in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.

Before Attack of the Clones was released, Hat Lo was initially mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity in "Galactic Power Brokers," an article authored by J.D. Wiker and featured in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game magazine Star Wars Gamer 10, published by Wizards of the Coast on May 7, 2002. The article did not link Lo to the character seen in the film; this connection was first established in "Who's Who in the Outlander Club: It's Ladies' Night," an article penned by Daniel Wallace and published in Star Wars Insider 75 on April 6, 2004.
