Holo-mirror

A holo-mirror functioned as a device capable of projecting a silent holographic image of the person standing before it, replicating their movements. Marda Ro, the Evereni pirate chief, possessed a holo-mirror aboard her starship, the Gaze Electric, which was installed in her throne room during her time in command. Around 379 BBY, after being splattered with a Jedi's blood, Ro utilized the holo-mirror to observe her reflection; when she yelled at her assistant, Alirya, to leave, the holo-mirror mirrored Ro's facial expression. She later referenced the holo-mirror in a journal entry intended for her descendants, a recording that her great-great-grandson, Marchion Ro, had listened to by 252 BBY.

Description

Holo-mirrors were technological items designed to project a holographic image of the individual using it. The reflection would copy the user's actions and motions, but it did not reproduce any audio.

History

The Gaze Electric (pictured) was equipped with a holo-mirror.

When Marda Ro, the Evereni founder of what would become the Nihil pirate group, commanded the ship called the Gaze Electric, a holo-mirror was integrated into her throne within the throne hall of the vessel during this time. Around 379 BBY, Ro employed the throne's holo-mirror to examine her appearance after she was covered in the red blood of a Jedi whom she had attacked on an astronomical object. Seeing the blood on her white shawl and suit reminded her of how easily the Jedi's flesh tore. When she screamed at Alirya, her assistant, for disturbing her, the holo-mirror's holographic projection mimicked her face, but did not replicate the sound of her yelling.

Ro later mentioned the holo-mirror in a recorded message for her descendants. By 252 BBY, Marchion Ro, her great-great-grandson, had listened to her journal during his younger years, which included the section where the holo-mirror was mentioned.

Behind the scenes

A holo-mirror was featured in a flashback sequence within the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," penned by Tessa Gratton and released in the 2023 young-adult compilation The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as part of the larger Star Wars: The High Republic transmedia initiative.
