House Kryze, a political faction also known as a house, played a significant role in Mandalorian society throughout the Clone Wars period and into the New Republic Era. Before the Clone Wars, this house held the position of the Mandalorians' royal family. Their base of operations was located on Kalevala.
Kalevala served as the base for House Kryze. In her youth, princess Bo-Katan Kryze witnessed House Kryze functioning as the royal family of the Mandalorians. Adonai Kryze, Bo-Katan's father, along with their subjects, observed Bo-Katan's Mandalorian initiation ritual and presented her with gifts. During the Clone Wars, Duchess Satine Kryze led the New Mandalorian government, which was later overthrown by Death Watch and Pre Vizsla, aided covertly by the Shadow Collective. Subsequently, Death Watch betrayed Maul and Savage Opress, the leaders of the Shadow Collective, inadvertently enabling Maul and Opress to identify Almec, the former Prime Minister, as a suitable replacement for Vizsla. Eventually, Maul defeated Vizsla in a duel, causing Death Watch to fracture, which allowed Maul to establish a new puppet government with Almec at its helm. Members of House Kryze, led by Bo-Katan Kryze, Satine's sister and a former member of Death Watch who opposed Maul following Vizsla's demise, their nephew, Korkie Kryze, participated in an attempt to free Satine. This attempt proved unsuccessful, and Satine was recaptured by Maul's forces.
Maul later executed Satine as an act of revenge against Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, leading to her sister, Bo-Katan, assuming leadership of House Kryze. After assisting in the final expulsion of Maul and his followers from Mandalore, the Jedi appointed Bo-Katan as regent of the planet. However, her reign was cut short when she refused to subject Mandalore to the authority of the newly formed Galactic Empire. Clan Saxon then betrayed her, deposing her and inviting the Empire to conquer Mandalore in exchange for being appointed as the planet's rulers. Consequently, Bo-Katan and her loyal Nite Owls aligned themselves with the Rebel Alliance in an effort to liberate Mandalore.
