The Tribe
Following the Galactic Empire's decline after the fall of the Empire, a Mandalorian clan known as The Tribe became active. Notable members of this group included the bounty hunter Din Djarin, often referred to as "the Mandalorian" or "Mando," along with a female Mandalorian Armorer and Paz Vizsla. The Tribe also consisted of various other adults and children. To minimize the risk of detection, the Tribe enforced a strict rule: only one member could be outside of the covert at any given time. The Tribe adhered to the Children of the Watch, a group that Bo-Katan Kryze considered a cult. They practiced the ancient Way of the Mandalore, a tradition that had largely disappeared from mainstream Mandalorian society. This included the strict prohibition of removing their helmets in the presence of others, among other codes.

The Great Purge of Mandalore enacted by the Galactic Empire did not affect the Children of the Watch due to their isolation on Concordia. After the purge, the Tribe, a Mandalorian clan, sought refuge in a covert located on Nevarro. To maintain their secrecy, they restricted outside access to a single member at a time. Around 9 ABY, the bounty hunter Din Djarin visited "the Armorer," the Tribe's Mandalorian Armorer, within their hidden enclave. He provided her with an ingot of beskar, obtained as a down payment for a bounty, which was sufficient to craft a pauldron. Any remaining beskar was set aside for foundlings.
After delivering Grogu to the client, whose identity was shrouded in mystery, Djarin came back to the Tribe with a camtono filled with beskar. This was enough material to create a full cuirass of armor. The Tribe members slowly entered the armorer's quarters after noticing the large amount of beskar possessed by whom they deemed a traitor, due to Djarin's acquiescence to Imperial demands. Paz Vizsla, one of the members, ridiculed him for dealing with remnants of the Empire and tried to remove his helmet as a form of humiliation. A fight then broke out between the two warriors, but the armorer intervened, reminding the Tribe that survival at all costs was the Way of the Mandalore that they must adhere to, to which the Tribe replied in unison, "This is the Way."

When Djarin found himself attacked by members of the Bounty Hunters' Guild because he refused to give up Grogu, the Tribe disregarded their rule of secrecy and emerged together to defend their comrade, giving him a chance to escape with Grogu. During the resulting conflict, Djarin pointed out that the Tribe would need to find a new hidden location to maintain their anonymity after the clan's open attack. He then quickly departed in his starship, the Razor Crest. Vizsla saluted the bounty hunter as he fled the scene, reaffirming the Tribe's commitment to its members.
Following the battle, the Bounty Hunters' Guild lost control of Nevarro, and the Imperial remnant cracked down on the Mandalorian enclave for their part in the incident. Many Mandalorians were killed when the covert was attacked by forces of the remnant. The Tribe's armorer managed to survive the attack and hoped that a small number of Mandalorians had managed to escape the planet. She remained to salvage what she could in the enclave. When Djarin returned to Nevarro, he was eventually forced to flee to the enclave and found the armor and helmets of his fallen brothers and sisters. The Armorer explained what had happened and sent him on a new mission to reunite Grogu with his own kind. After Djarin and his allies left, stormtroopers entered the enclave in search of him. The Armorer fought them, killing many. The covert was eventually completely abandoned, even by the Armorer.
Later, the armorer and Paz Vizsla sought refuge on the Glavis Ringworld, where they resettled in a new covert. They left signs leading to their new covert along Glavis's Kolzoc Alley that were visible to vision settings in a Mandalorian's helmet. Djarin was able to find the signs and make his way into the covert. After he arrived, Vizsla revealed that only the three of them survived the remnant's attack. After the armorer confirmed that Djarin had completed his quest in returning Grogu to the Jedi, she welcomed him back into the covert, and the Mandalorian and Vizsla set up a new forge for her.

The armorer, noticing Djarin's beskar spear, declared that the weapon was too dangerous for Mandalorians, as it could pierce beskar armor. Djarin then asked her to reforge the spear into armor for Grogu. Djarin later trained with the Darksaber under the armorer's guidance, who criticized his lack of focus when wielding the weapon. Vizsla, who was watching the session, desired the saber that originated from his lineage and approached the pair, challenging Djarin to a duel for the Darksaber. Djarin accepted the challenge, and the two removed their jetpacks and prepared to fight. Vizsla then drew his vibro-knife and activated his shield projector while his opponent activated the Darksaber. Djarin ultimately won the duel, and the armorer stopped him from killing Vizsla, asking whether any of them had removed their helmet. Vizsla confirmed that he had not; however, Djarin begrudgingly admitted that he had. Vizsla called the Mandalorian an apostate of the Way of the Mandalore and told him to leave. The armorer told the disgraced Mandalorian that he could only find atonement in the Living Waters beneath the Mines of Mandalore, which Djarin believed was destroyed. Djarin thus left and took the Darksaber with him.
Despite Vizsla's belief that he, the Armorer, and Djarin were the last of the Tribe, other members of the clan survived. The gathered survivors of the Tribe, including Vizsla and the Armorer, eventually established a new Mandalorian covert on a desert planet under the Armorer.
After Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze informed the Armorer that Mandalore was still habitable, she decided that it was time for Mandalorians from all tribes to reunite and reclaim their home planet. As a result, the Tribe pledged their loyalty to the former Mand'alor. Kryze's unit also rejoined her after Djarin returned the Darksaber. The united Mandalorian factions then traveled to Mandalore. Upon reaching the Great Forge, the Mandalorians discovered Moff Gideon's secret base. After defeating Gideon's forces and destroying his base, the Tribe resettled on Mandalore and Djarin adopted Grogu as his own child.

The Tribe adhered to the traditional principles of the Children of the Watch, a group that others within Mandalorian society, such as lady Bo-Katan Kryze and her resistance, viewed as a cult of religious extremists. When a member reached adulthood or a point in their childhood where they could speak, they swore to the Mandalorian Creed and were instructed to never remove their helmets in the presence of another living being, as part of an ancient Way of the Mandalore.
Those who revealed their faces could not put their helmets back on again and were ostracized as apostates, with the Tribe declaring they were no longer Mandalorians. However, an apostate could find atonement in the Living waters beneath the Mines of Mandalore. Members were able to take in foundlings, who could either continue as part of the Mandalorian clan, swearing the creed when they were of age, or be returned to their kind. If the foundling stayed, they would eventually rise to the position of Mandalorian apprentice and train under a master. With the reconquest of Mandalore, the Tribe put aside its focus on the helmet rules of the Way to live alongside unorthodox Mandalorians.
The Tribe made its debut in Chapter 1 of The Mandalorian, a Disney+ television series from 2019 created by Jon Favreau and directed by Dave Filoni. The episode was broadcast on November 12, 2019.
