Huulik

Huulik, a male Rodian who possessed Force-sensitivity, was a Jedi Knight during the final decades of the Galactic Republic. In the course of the Clone Wars, he held the rank of general within the Grand Army of the Republic, fighting against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. A skilled pilot himself, Huulik once flew alongside Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Sedratis, where Skywalker rescued the Rodian from certain death. Like the vast majority of his Jedi comrades, Huulik met his end at the hands of his own clone troopers when the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, who was secretly a sinister Dark Lord of the Sith known as Darth Sidious, issued Order 66, which called for the extermination of all Jedi. Despite sustaining fatal injuries in the surprise attack, Huulik was able to make it back to his starship and programmed a course for his homeworld of Rodia before succumbing to his wounds. His family built a secret mausoleum for the deceased Jedi in the swamps of Rodia. Almost two decades later, Huulik's niece, Taneetch Soonta, entrusted his lightsaber to Luke Skywalker.

Biography

Early life

In the closing decades of the Galactic Republic, Huulik, a male Rodian, was born into the Chekkoo clan. This clan was one of the smaller Rodian clans originating from the Betu continent on the planet Rodia. It was discovered that Huulik had Force-sensitivity, leading him to become a Knight within the Jedi Order, an organization dedicated to maintaining peace and justice throughout the galaxy. He had at least one sibling and a niece named Taneetch Soonta. However, the Jedi code prohibited maintaining strong family bonds. Consequently, Huulik only visited his homeworld for official Jedi business, briefly interacting with his niece once or twice during her childhood. Despite the infrequency of his visits, he left a significant impression on her.

The Clone Wars

Huulik was killed during Order 66.

Ten years following the election of Sheev Palpatine to the position of Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, the Clone Wars erupted between the government and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Huulik, a talented pilot, served as a general in the Grand Army of the Republic during the devastating three-year conflict. The Rodian took part in the Battle of Sedratis, where he flew alongside fellow Jedi Anakin Skywalker. During the battle, both Jedi were overwhelmed by droid starfighters, and Huulik's deflector shields were failing. Skywalker, however, flew his ship between Huulik and the incoming fire from the droids, saving the Rodian's life and allowing him time to recharge his shields. Ultimately, the Jedi and the Republic emerged victorious at Sedratis. Following their victory, Huulik and Skywalker fought together on multiple occasions. During one of his visits to Rodia, Huulik recounted the Sedratis exploit to his family.

Order 66

Unknown to most, the Clone Wars had been secretly orchestrated by Darth Sidious, a Dark Lord of the Sith who had infiltrated the galactic government decades prior and was, in fact, Chancellor Palpatine himself. Sidious issued the order to eliminate all Jedi. As a result, Huulik was shot by the clone troopers under his command. Despite his severe wounds, Huulik managed to get aboard his starship and recorded a short message detailing his situation. He also instructed his astromech droid to pilot the ship back to Rodia. However, by the time Huulik's vessel landed on his homeworld, the Jedi had already died from his injuries. His relatives buried him, along with his lightsaber, in a secret mausoleum hidden within the swamps near the Chekkoo Enclave.

Legacy

Almost two decades after the Rodian Jedi's death during the Galactic Civil War against the Empire, Huulik's niece, Soonta, spoke about her uncle with Anakin Skywalker's son, a young freedom fighter named Luke. Eager to learn more about the Jedi, young Skywalker was pleased to hear that his father had saved Huulik's life during the war, and he requested to visit Huulik's mausoleum. Inside the tomb, the two recovered Huulik's lightsaber, which Skywalker used to kill a wild ghest that had trapped them at the mausoleum. Luke later disassembled the deceased Jedi's lightsaber, learning that a Jedi needed to use the Force when aligning the kyber crystals of the saber.

Personality and traits

According to his niece, Huulik embodied the very essence of honor. He also took pride in his piloting abilities, although he acknowledged that they were not as good as those of his colleague Anakin Skywalker. She also considered him an honorable individual who fought for justice.

Powers and abilities

Besides being a skilled pilot, Huulik was also proficient in wielding a lightsaber, the signature weapon of the Jedi Order.

Behind the scenes

Huulik's first appearance was as a corpse in the 2015 canon novel Heir to the Jedi.
