The Imperial Executive Building, alternatively known as the Senate Office Building, was a domed structure that housed offices. Its location was near the Imperial Senate Building on the planet of Coruscant. During the era of the Galactic Republic, it also went by the names Republic executive building or Senate executive building. This building provided office space for members serving in the Galactic Senate, including the office used by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. The building's upper levels were equipped with several landing bays.
During the Clone Wars, Chancellor Palpatine used the executive building as his base of operations to manage the military actions of the Republic. When the Jedi Order uncovered Palpatine's true identity as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, a quartet of Jedi Masters, specifically Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar, made an attempt to apprehend him within his office. Palpatine confronted them in a lightsaber duel, killing three of the Jedi before Windu gained the upper hand. However, before Windu could deliver the final blow, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker entered the Chancellor's office demanding that Palpatine be kept taken alive, as he believed Palpatine possessed the means to save Skywalker's wife, Padmé Amidala. Windu argued that Palpatine was too dangerous to be allowed to live, but Skywalker then severed Windu's arm, which allowed Palpatine to unleash Force lightning upon him, propelling him out of the window and resulting in his death. Following Windu's death and Skywalker's descent to the dark side of the Force, Sidious, from within the executive building, issued Order 66 to the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic, thereby declaring all Jedi to be enemies of the Republic.
