The Imperial Skirmishes represent a combined military endeavor undertaken by the Imperial Remnant in conjunction with the replacement warlords hailing from the Deep Core. This campaign was waged against the New Republic during a period of reduced conflict within the broader Galactic Civil War, specifically in 17 ABY.
Following a relative lull of four years, in 17 ABY, Imperial aligned systems situated near the Hydian Way began advocating for a cessation of hostilities. In response, the New Republic rescinded its prohibition against former Imperial officials holding elected positions. While intended as a gesture of peace, the Moffs interpreted this action as a precursor to an impending invasion.
Driven by the fear of invasion, the Council of Moffs secretly reached out to Admiral Natasi Daala, who had returned to the Deep Core and consolidated the power of the "replacement warlords". These ambitious individuals had seized control of the limited infrastructure remaining after Pellaeon's departure from the Deep Core and replaced the officers Daala had killed at Tsoss Beacon. Daala was persuaded to engage in conflict, prompting the Moffs to instruct Pellaeon to initiate a renewed campaign against the New Republic.
At this time, the New Republic was still recovering from the Almanian Uprising and exhibited signs of internal division. Furthermore, subsequent to the Orinda campaign, the Imperial Remnant received reinforcements from the Black Fleet, fleeing the Yevetha, including the prototype Star Destroyer EX-F, subsequently renamed the Rakehell. Pellaeon, now holding the rank of Fleet Admiral, considered the plan imprudent but hoped to secure swift victories to appease the Moffs before proposing peace negotiations with the New Republic.
==The campaign== The ensuing events proved to be a complete failure for the Imperial Remnant. Daala launched an offensive from the Deep Core, but her fleet suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of Garm Bel Iblis during the Battle of Columus. Forced into a random hyperspace jump, she was presumed dead until her reappearance in 40 ABY. Pellaeon's initial attacks were successful, resulting in the capture of Adumar and surprise assaults on Taris and Battle of Champala along the Hydian Way, advancing to the periphery of the Core Worlds. However, with Daala's defeat, Ackbar and Bel Iblis were able to deploy the full strength of the New Republic Defense Force. TEGtW
The Second Battle of Champala resulted in a decisive Imperial retreat. Pellaeon was pursued back to Imperial Space, which rapidly diminished following defeats at Ketaris and Tangrene. In an attempt to salvage a victory, Pellaeon deployed his remaining dreadnoughts, Dominion and Megador, along with the Rakehell, at Anx Minor. The Battle of Anx Minor proved disastrous, with the Megador and the Dominion sustaining significant damage due to the detonation of the Rakehell's antimatter reservoir. Pellaeon promptly ordered a retreat to Bastion. TEGtW
Under the command of Ackbar and Garm Bel Iblis, New Republic forces reduced the Empire's territory to a mere eight sectors, with Bastion, Yaga Minor and Muunilinst remaining as the only notable planets. This time, the New Republic resolved not to cede the initiative to the Empire, as had occurred in previous years. In 18 ABY, the Republic fleet maintained pressure on the Remnant, particularly during the Corellian Crisis.
The Empire remained confined to its last eight sectors for an additional two years, until its crippled economy and untenable position compelled Pellaeon to seek peace. Despite the near collapse of negotiations due to the Caamas Document Crisis, this ultimately led to the Pellaeon–Gavrisom Treaty in 19 ABY, marking the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War.
