Janis Pol, an aged female human, held the position of diplomat aboard the Alderaan Flotilla. This flotilla comprised a collection of starships that carried the remaining inhabitants of Alderaan, her homeworld. In 5 ABY, a year, she participated in a discussion on the Alderaanian escort frigate Sunspire, a vessel within the flotilla, concerning the flotilla's future. During this meeting, she witnessed the New Republic's delivery of the Death Star superweapon's wreckage to the Alderaanians.
Janis Pol was a female human originating from the planet Alderaan. She survived the destruction of her homeworld, caused by the Galactic Empire's Death Star superweapon in 0 BBY. Following the devastating loss of her planet, Pol eventually became a member of the Alderaan Flotilla. This group of starships housed the surviving Alderaanians and had been initially organized by Princess Leia Organa and Rebel pilot Evaan Verlaine.
In 5 ABY, Pol served as a diplomat within the flotilla, which was located among the remains of Alderaan, situated in the Alderaan system. She was present at a meeting with Regent Administrator Eglyn Valmor aboard the Alderaanian frigate Sunspire. During this gathering, they, along with other prominent flotilla members, deliberated on the future of their people. Valmor expressed a desire to remain within the Alderaan system, while Pol, along with others such as the former teacher Icar Orliss, advocated for the surviving Alderaanians to establish a new home on another world. When Orliss presented a list of potential planets, Argus Tanzer intervened, arguing that relocating to a new world was more complex than simply choosing from a list, as they would need to adhere to the procedures established by the New Republic. Both Orliss and Pol countered by asserting that they were not part of the Republic and, therefore, were not obligated to follow its regulations.
The debate during the meeting persisted until it was interrupted by reports of several large vessels approaching the flotilla. Pol and the others were then astonished to witness New Republic vessels transporting the remnants of the Death Star toward the flotilla. Fellow flotilla member Teven Gale revealed that he had collaborated with Organa and Verlaine to acquire these remains for the flotilla as a resource. Valmor and Gale then proposed constructing a new space station using the superweapon's debris. Pol agreed with the idea but emphasized the need for representation in the New Republic Senate and that the possibility of resettlement should remain open for discussion.
Janis Pol's initial appearance was in the novel Aftermath: Life Debt, authored by Chuck Wendig and published on July 12, 2016.
