Jano Brayson served within the Republic Defense Coalition as a pilot for the Galactic Republic, hailing from Barolia. Piloting a Z-29 Skyhawk, he found himself reassigned to Firebird Squadron, where he was reunited with Teff, a long-time friend already a member of the same squadron. Jano participated in the Battle of Galov alongside his Firebird Squadron comrades, fighting against Lourna Dee, a marauder and Tempest Runner from the Nihil organization. He and a number of other pilots joined Jedi Knight Nib Assek and her Padawan, Burryaga Agaburry, in an attempt to board Dee's flagship, the Lourna Dee. Upon reaching the vessel's flight deck, Jano, Tef, and the two Jedi confronted a figure seemingly identical to Dee; however, Dee had already escaped, leaving the droid H7-09 wearing her armor and mask. Mistaking H7-09 for Dee, Jano shot the droid, only to be rebuked by Assek for what appeared to be the killing of Dee. Before the group could reveal the identity of "Dee," an explosive device hidden within the armor detonated. Despite the Jedi's efforts to shield the pilots, Tef perished in the blast.
Fueled by rage over his friend's demise, Jano later made an attempt to murder captured Nihil receiving medical attention aboard Starlight Beacon. As he launched an attack on the Nihil Tasia, Dee herself, who was in custody but whose identity was unknown to the Jedi, incapacitated him. Shortly after, the Jedi, having discovered Jano's intentions, entered the medical ward.
