Kartoosh was an astronomical body situated within the Mid Rim Territories region of space.
Located at coordinates I-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid, the celestial object known as Kartoosh resided in the Mid Rim Territories. A hyperspace route provided a link from Kartoosh to the planets Riflor and Cerea. The Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, left Kartoosh devastated. A cloud of wreckage, consisting of destroyed vessels and their contents, now orbited the object.

A large shipyard, known as the construction and overhaul facility, began construction over Kartoosh in 23 BBY. Orson Callan Krennic, a Galactic Republic engineer, assisted in its development. Subsequently, the galaxy was embroiled in the Clone Wars, a conflict spanning the galaxy between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems from 22 BBY to 19 BBY, until the advent of the Imperial Era. Kartoosh and its shipyard suffered severe damage during the war. A field of debris, originating from destroyed starships, was left in orbit around the astronomical object. Despite this devastation, the newly established Galactic Empire continued to utilize the remaining hangar bays within the damaged overhaul facility. Outdated vessels, including former Separatist ships and Venator-class Star Destroyers, were either retrofitted or dismantled above Kartoosh. The facility also served as a transit point for war supplies and other armaments destined for storage in distant star systems, with these materials being loaded onto transports.
Following the Empire's campaign against remaining Separatist holdouts in the Western Reaches of the galaxy, the facility was used to repair vessels damaged during the operation. In 18 BBY, Admiral Wilhuff Tarkin's Imperial-class Star Destroyer was dispatched to Kartoosh for repairs after sustaining damage in the campaign, leaving Tarkin and his crew to endure the tedium of the repair process. Krennic, then a Lieutenant Commander, returned to Kartoosh for business on the planet's surface, arriving via shuttle. However, instead of immediately returning to his own ship, Krennic instructed his pilot to take him to Tarkin's Star Destroyer, where he met with the admiral to discuss the status of a massive battle station project. During their conversation, they observed the maiden voyage of a new dreadnought, which had been completed in less than a standard year but was already considered a temporary solution for the Imperial Navy.
The massive construction and overhaul facility, heavily damaged during the Clone Wars by turbolasers and missiles, orbited Kartoosh. However, its surviving hangar bays remained in use well into the Imperial Era.
Kartoosh made its first appearance in the 2016 novel Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel written by James Luceno.
