The kebroot was a specific variety of tuberous vegetable. This particular tuber was a traditional component of the main course during the Alderaanian Winter's Heart celebration. Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef, featured kebroot in his Kebroot Parcel culinary creation.
Before the destruction of the planet Alderaan in 0 BBY, the human natives of that world incorporated kebroot into the main dish of their Winter's Heart festival feast. The preparation involved peeling kebroot before boiling it in a pot. It was then served with other vegetables and roast kulkan.

In 0 ABY or later, Rel, an Alderaanian serving as a scout for the Rebel Alliance during a battle on the Outer Rim moon Shard against the Galactic Empire, encountered his childhood friend, Max. Max was fighting on the opposing side as a cold weather assault stormtrooper. They agreed to a temporary ceasefire and imagined peeling kebroot into a pot for a Winter's Heart celebration, had Alderaan not been destroyed.
The Artiodac chef known as Strono Tuggs utilized kebroot in the creation of Kebroot Parcels. He included the recipe in his second cookbook, titled The Life Day Cookbook, which was published sometime after his first cookbook in 34 ABY. Tuggs considered the parcels to be extremely delicious. He hoped they would evoke the flavors of Winter's Heart for those who survived Alderaan's destruction, those who remembered the festival, or those who sought comfort in food around that time of year.
Within established Star Wars canon, kebroot is mentioned in "The Song of Winter's Heart," a short story penned by Cavan Scott and George Mann featured in the Life Day Treasury anthology, released on September 7, 2021. Prior to the book's release, the first mention of kebroot was in a preview article for the short story on StarWars.com, published on September 3 of the same year.

Kebroot also appears in a recipe for Kebroot Parcels in the 2021 Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. In the out-of-universe recipe, sweet potatoes are suggested as a substitute tuber for kebroot. Kebroot originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, making its debut in the 1997 middle-grade novel Delusions of Grandeur, written by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta as the ninth book in the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series. The first visual representation of the tuber was in the 2013 non-canon mobile game Star Wars: Tiny Death Star.
