The Kerane Valley existed on the planet of Hoth. During the year 3 ABY, Blizzard Force, the Galactic Empire's contingent of All Terrain Armored Transports, traversed this valley as they advanced to attack Echo Base, which served as the headquarters for the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Situated on the ice-covered planet Hoth, the Kerane Valley was positioned northwest of the Moorsh Moraine and northeast of the North Ridge.
In 3 ABY, the Imperial Blizzard Force's All Terrain Armored Transports were deployed onto the Moorsh Moraine with the objective of attacking Echo Base. Echo Base, the headquarters of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, was located within the Clabburn Range far to the south.
The walkers then proceeded into the valley's southern end. The crew of the walker designated Blizzard 4 attempted a riskier, more direct path into the valley, hoping to impress Darth Vader, the Sith Lord. Blizzard 1 and Blizzard 2 then opted for a safer, westerly route through the valley to reach the North Ridge and ascend towards the base. Initially, a group spearheaded by Blizzard 4 attempted to ascend an eastern ice flow, but after losing three walkers, Blizzard 4 and the remaining members of the group also took the westerly route. In the end, the remaining walkers successfully ascended the North Ridge and engaged the Alliance Military on the Nev Ice Flow.
The Kerane Valley was initially referenced in the new Star Wars canon within the 2016 reference book titled Star Wars: Complete Locations. The section in question was authored by James Luceno and featured illustrations by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen. The location's original introduction occurred in the Star Wars Legends continuity through the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy, also written by Luceno and illustrated by Chasemore and Jenssen.
