Story Synopsis

Asajj Ventress, disguised as a Jedi

Asajj Ventress, the former Sith assassin, joins forces with Lassa Rhayme, the Blood Bone Order pirate captain, to execute a plan: seizing the freighter known as Steady On. Their target is Hondo Ohnaka's pirate base situated on Florrum. Ventress adopts the guise of a Jedi bounty in Rhayme's custody, while Rhayme pretends to be a rogue member of her own crew. Some weeks prior, Rhayme came to Ventress's aid after Ventress had taken on a doomed assignment: serving as an escort for the cargo ship Steady On, which was transporting a highly valuable item. However, Ventress and the other mercenaries' starfighters were ambushed by the infamous Ohnaka Gang. Ventress sustained injuries during this assault, leading to her rescue by Rhayme and her Blood Bone Order, who originally intended to plunder the Steady On. Rhayme transported the injured Ventress to the medbay aboard her starship, the Opportunity, where she received medical attention. Additionally, Rhayme had Ventress's ship, the Banshee, towed for necessary repairs. After discovering Ventress's lightsaber, Rhayme mistook her for a Jedi and sought her assistance in reclaiming the Steady On. In exchange, Ventress would be allowed to keep the valuable item located onboard the freighter.

Before the mission commenced, one of Rhayme's crew members infiltrated the Steady On and reported that Hondo was absent, having left only a skeleton crew to oversee the freighter's unloading. Employing Ventress as her "Jedi" captive, Rhayme successfully persuaded Hondo's lieutenant, Jiro, to grant them access to the Steady On. Once inside, Rhayme acted as a disgruntled member of her crew, offering to join the Ohnaka Gang and using her "Jedi" prisoner as leverage. To gain Jiro's favor, Rhayme feigned willingness to reveal Rhayme's plans, enabling Jiro to defeat Rhayme and ascend to the position of Hondo's second-in-command. Growing impatient with Jiro's interrogation, Ventress employed the Force to summon her lightsaber, simulating an attack on Rhayme. Ventress then manipulated the Force to halt the Weequays' blaster fire mid-flight.

After incapacitating two pirates, she was kicked in the lower back by Rhayme, who pretended to subdue her. While Jiro's men took Ventress into custody, Rhayme continued with her "deal" with Jiro. In exchange for Jiro obtaining a ransom from the Jedi Council, Rhayme would integrate into their crew and assist them in locating Lassa Rhayme's fleet. Despite Jiro's reluctance to act without Hondo's approval due to his previous mutiny on Florrum, Rhayme offered to vouch for him if he initiated the attack. Unbeknownst to Jiro, Ventress's feigned escape was a ploy by Rhayme to use the lightsaber to weaken her stuncuffs. After being escorted out of the main hall, Ventress used the Force to shatter her remaining restraints and then rendered four guards unconscious. Ventress then hurried to secure the valuable item aboard the Steady On.

Ventress and Rhayme take on the Ohnaka Gang.

Back in the main hall, Lassa persuaded Jiro to dispatch the majority of the remaining ships on Florrum to engage the Blood Bone Order's fleet. To divert Jiro's attention, Lassa regaled him with tales of Rhayme's stash of Tevraki whiskey. After Ventress had slipped outside, Lassa attacked the inebriated Jiro with Ventress's lightsaber. Before the conflict could escalate, Hondo Ohnaka reappeared and reprimanded Jiro for sending away his crew and accepting a Jedi bounty. When Ohnaka confronted Lassa, she revealed her true identity as Lassa Rhayme and demanded the return of the stolen Steady On and its cargo. Despite being outnumbered and lacking Force-sensitivity, Rhayme used Ventress's lightsaber to disarm Ohnaka of his electrostaff. She then discharged a blaster at Hondo and propelled the lightsaber toward the doorway.

Meanwhile, Ventress employed a combination of the Force and the pirates' own blasters to decimate the unloading crew and Hondo's ten men. Respecting Rhayme's wishes, Ventress inflicted wounds but refrained from killing them. Sensing the Force, Ventress reclaimed her lightsaber. Some of Hondo's pirates attempted to seize it mid-air, resulting in the loss of their fingers. At that moment, Ventress detected the arrival of another ship carrying two dozen life forms. Back in the main hall, Hondo knocked Lassa's blaster from her grasp, causing her to fall. However, Lassa managed to retrieve the blaster and fired it at Hondo. Following the skirmish on Florrum, Lassa and Ventress departed aboard the Opportunity with the valuable item that Ventress had requested.

During a conversation about their successful mission, Ventress inquired about Rhayme's lack of tattoos in contrast to other Pantorans. Lassa explained that her loyalty lies solely with her crew, whom she considers her family. The two shared whiskey to celebrate their triumph, noting its superiority to the beverages served on Coruscant's Level 1313. Lassa extended an offer to Ventress to join her crew, providing income, accommodation, and adventure. While Ventress appreciated the offer, she remained haunted by the demise of her fellow Nightsisters and declined. Lassa accepted Ventress's refusal but assured her that the offer remained open should she reconsider. Ventress, in turn, offered her services as a bounty hunter. At Rhayme's request, Ventress opened the cargo she was tasked with escorting. The object proved to be a simple statuette of a sea mammal with four flippers and an elongated muzzle. Despite its beauty, Ventress remained determined to deliver it to her employer.
