**Star Wars: Knight Errant: Escape 4** signifies the fourth installment within the Escape miniseries story arc of the Star Wars: Knight Errant comic book saga, authored by John Jackson Miller.
Engaged in a conflict spanning three Sith armies, Jedi Kerra Holt endeavors to stop them from acquiring a Sith artifact of great power. Her quest to locate her missing family initiated the war on this world, and as she nears the culmination of her search for her parents, she comprehends the magnitude of the peril that could engulf the galaxy should the Sith obtain the relic! Has Kerra prioritized her personal goals above the welfare of countless innocents?
Jedi Knight Kerra Holt's journey to discover her long-separated family directs her towards the Odionate, which is the dominion controlled by the Sith Lord known as Odion. Despite successfully infiltrating Odion's Novitiate ranks, Odion captures her on the desolate world of Skarpos. Having retrieved an ancient Sith relic referred to as the Helm of Ieldis, Odion, along with his captive Kerra, reunites with General Beld Yulan and his forces, who have established a base atop the Morbollon Mesa. Although he obtained Ieldis' esteemed artifact, Odion was unable to activate it, prompting Kerra to mock him. During their subsequent dialogue, Odion disclosed that he had been fully aware of Kerra's presence from the moment she entered the Odionate. However, he allowed her to proceed unhindered because he believed that Kerra and her family were destined to guide him to the Helm. Odion revealed that he had obtained intelligence regarding her parents' research on the Helm during a raid on the University of Sanbra. The invasion of Aquilaris Minor in 1042 BBY was merely a pretext to seize her parents and the other researchers involved in the Ieldis study for Project Pandemonium. By this point, Yulan and his squad of soldiers had completed their excavation of the temple chamber. They had discovered some camping remnants and two human skeletal remains; one of which contained a locket bearing an image of Kerra's parents. Upon realizing that her parents had perished, Kerra succumbed to a state of grief, which immediately activated the dark side energies of the Helm. Odion promptly unleashed the Helm's powers on two of the rival Sith Lord Malakite's Mutate soldiers and their dragon steeds, who had inadvertently stumbled upon Odion's entourage. Odion manipulated the Helm's powers to incite them into a murderous rage. Pleased with this demonstration, Odion directed the Helm towards the three assembled armies situated beneath the mesa. Consequently, Malakite and Daiman's forces swiftly disintegrated as all the combatants began to slaughter each other. Amidst the ensuing carnage, Daiman and Malakite narrowly escaped with their lives. Concurrently, Odion's entourage evacuated Skarpos aboard an Odionate planetary gunship.
Despite Odion's triumph, the Helm also eradicated his entire garrison on Skarpos, prompting General Yulan to voice concerns regarding the extensive casualties. Odion dismissed Yulan's reservations, asserting that their deaths were unavoidable and that the Helm spared them considerable effort. Kerra was subsequently confined to a detention cell while Odion steered the warship Gravedigger towards an undisclosed destination. Despite his initial animosity towards Kerra, Beld Yulan had developed a grudging respect for Kerra for risking her life to locate her parents. During their encounter, Kerra also disclosed that she was also searching for her lost younger brother or sister, whom she believed was imprisoned within one of the Odionate cloisters. Yulan then clarified the primary reason for his visit; a holorecorder had been recovered from the destroyed mesa chamber. Odion had viewed it in private and had instructed Yulan to deliver it to Kerra personally.
It transpired that the holorecording contained a message from Kerra's deceased parents to Vannar Treece or any other Jedi associated with the University of Sanbra on the Ieldis study. Four years following the Massacre of Aquilaris, her parents had ultimately recovered the Helm of Ieldis on Skarpos. The Holts had intended to transport the Helm to the Jedi and the Galactic Republic for safekeeping but were unable to due to the planet being besieged by warring Sith factions. By that juncture, the Holts had exhausted their food supplies, and a permanent Sith presence loomed outside the Morbollon Mesa. To prevent the Sith from obtaining the Helm, the couple made the fateful decision to detonate themselves and the chamber, in a last-ditch effort to deny the Sith access to the Helm.
Following the conclusion of the transmission, Yulan expressed his inability to comprehend why Kerra's parents had willingly sacrificed their lives for the sake of others. Kerra disagreed but without expressing any malice, contending that her parents' sacrifice was perfectly logical. In her view, their sacrifice signified that if death could possess meaning, then life must also possess meaning. Shortly after their meeting, the Gravedigger landed on Vanahame. Kerra inquired whether Odion desired more anguish to feast upon, adding that Yulan could inform Odion that it was ineffective. Yulan responded that Odion may have simply wanted her to comprehend the Helm's potential. Upon realizing that they had landed on Vanahame, Kerra deduced that he had come to the Cloister to exploit the misery and sorrow of the thousands of inmates within the planet-sized orphanage. By utilizing the Helm to tap into these negative emotions, Odion's powers would become limitless.
