Indoumodo kouhuns, often shortened to Kouhuns, were diminutive arthropods with numerous limbs, native to the jungle ecosystems of the planet Indoumodo. These creatures possessed the ability to inject a highly dangerous venom into their targets. Due to the typically lethal nature of their venom, assassins sometimes utilized them as a means of eliminating individuals.
Originating from the swamps of [Indoumodo](/article/indoumodo], kouhuns were arthropods capable of adapting to a wide range of planetary environments. Operating as coordinated hunting groups, they moved with stealth, employing body heat detection to locate prey, which they would then incapacitate with a single venomous sting. Reaching lengths of up to thirty centimeters, the kouhun exhibited a segmented exoskeleton and possessed stingers located at both the front and rear of its body. These stingers were used to administer venom synthesized by specialized internal glands. The venom was exceptionally potent, demonstrating particular effectiveness against humanoid species. Their prey included creatures as large as dogs.
The venom's effects were typically fatal within a matter of minutes following injection. These creatures moved on 56 legs, enabling them to traverse virtually any surface with ease. Kouhuns gained notoriety for their capacity to bypass security measures. They were sometimes deployed in assassination plots, often after being deliberately starved prior to release. Upon release, they generally gravitated directly towards warm-blooded organisms. Tracing their deployment back to the individual who released them proved to be extremely difficult.

Zam Wesell, a bounty hunter, employed a pair of kouhuns during her second attempt to assassinate Senator Padmé Amidala while the senator was on Coruscant. Jango Fett, Wesell's associate, provided the creatures to her, believing that a more discreet method would ultimately succeed in killing the senator. The kouhuns were placed inside an ASN courier droid, which subsequently flew to Amidala's apartment, breached her bedroom window, and silently released the two deadly creatures into the room. The kouhuns descended to the floor and began to move towards Amidala's bed where she was sleeping. R2-D2, who was present in the senator's room providing security, detected an anomaly and activated his lights to scan the area, causing the kouhuns to freeze in place. Once the droid deactivated its lights, the kouhuns resumed their advance towards the senator. Anakin Skywalker, who was in the adjacent room, sensed through the Force that Amidala faced imminent danger. He swiftly entered Amidala's room and bisected the creatures with a couple of strikes from his lightsaber.
Sometime between 19 BBY and 18 BBY, the criminal Lanse Crowder unleashed a kouhun in an effort to eliminate Phee Genoa, a pirate with whom Crowder was in the process of negotiating a deal.
The sound effects for kouhuns were partially created by squishing the contents of a grapefruit.
