Story Synopsis

After the fall of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire, the One Sith are forced into hiding. A new governing body, the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, is formed, consisting of the Jedi Order, the Fel Empire, and what remains of the Galactic Alliance Remnant. Empress Marasiah Fel initiates an ambitious project aimed at connecting the Outer Rim Territories to the rest of the galaxy. During a mission in the Carreras system, Yalta Val, an Imperial Knight, is captured by a mysterious Sith apprentice, who then steals his armor and assumes his identity. In the Ithori system, Jao Assam, a young Imperial Knight, grows concerned due to the lack of communication from his mentor, Master Yalta Val. Meanwhile, in the sewers of Carreras Major, Ania Solo, a junk dealer, and her Mon Calamari companion Sauk are trying to avoid a patrol of the Carreras security patrol using their shuttle.

The enigmatic Sith apprentice speaks with the imprisoned Val, attempting to persuade him to embrace the dark side of the Force. Hearing about Ania's run-in with the Carreras authorities, the Sith posing as Val decides to confront her. Back at Solo's junkyard located on Carreras Minor's moon, Ania and Sauk are devising a plan to leave the Carreras system. Their friend AG-37, a benevolent IG-88 assassin droid, pays them a visit, suggesting they dispose of the lightsaber. Soon after, the Sith impostor "Yalta Val" arrives with a group of Carreras guards. The Sith impostor demands Ania give back his lightsaber. When she refuses, he uses the Force to take it and orders his guards to kill her and her friends. After a chase, Ania and Sauk are saved by AG-37, who uses two blaster rifles to eliminate their pursuers. Furious about Ania's escape, the Sith apprentice, despite Governor Biala's objections, puts the security forces on high alert. Elsewhere, Jao Assam speaks with his superiors, Empress Fel and Antares Draco, the leader of the Imperial Knights. He expresses his worries about the silence from Yalta Val and volunteers to go to the Carreras system to investigate. However, Empress Fel denies his request and instructs him to stay in the Ithori system. Following their hologram conversation, Empress Fel tells Draco about her concerns regarding the challenges faced by the Imperial Knights. Draco comforts her and encourages her to remain strong. Ania and her friends escape the planet on AG-37's freighter. While fixing the damaged Imperial comm droid, Ania and her companions find a holo-recording showing an Imperial Knight battling a Sith. They quickly understand that the Sith impostor is not the same person as the Imperial Knight Yalt Val. Shortly thereafter, AG-37's freighter is stopped by a Shifala naval blockade.
