Libreck was a terraformed asteroid settlement, specifically a city, situated on Hanoon. This location was under the control of the Galactic Empire. This city, constructed by 6 ABY, featured a Command center alongside prefab shelters. It also contained an Imperial prison, where Excellency Lathe Parthenian, a leader of the Hanoon Imperial Resistance, was incarcerated, and two troop centers. During that year, Libreck possessed a fragment of the Vor'Na'Tu, an ancient Jedi artifact. Luke Skywalker, who would later found the New Jedi Order, and his sister Leia Organa ventured to Hanoon with a small New Republic army to recover the Vor'Na'Tu shards. Upon reaching Libreck, the city's inhabitants agreed to relinquish their shard if the Republic forces liberated Parthenian and ousted the Imperial garrison, which was composed of stormtroopers. The Republic forces engaged the garrison in a skirmish and successfully freed Excellency Parthenian.
Subsequently, Libreck willingly surrendered their shard, and members of the Resistance joined the Republic forces to continue their mission. Later on, Organa and Skywalker made the decision to liberate the remainder of the asteroid and seized control of the Terraform Processor. Following the death of Moff Yittreas, Hanoon decided to align itself with the New Republic.
The first mention of Libreck occurred in the strategy guide for the video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, released in 2001. It was a location in a Princess Leia campaign mission, where the player was tasked with liberating the city. This mission, along with Libreck, was also included in the game's 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns.
