MA-13

Serving as the operator of a keelboat on the planet Nevarro was MA-13, a ferry droid. This orange and white ferry droid, which resembled an R-series astromech droid, was modified with legs and two pairs of arms. He employed these arms to propel the boat along a lava river. When Din Djarin, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and IG-11 sought to escape from Moff Gideon's forces alongside Grogu, they boarded the droid's keelboat, and the droid initiated their transport down the river. Djarin, however, spotted a group of stormtroopers awaiting them at the tunnel's exit, leading Dune to demand the droid halt the boat. Ignoring her plea, the droid continued rowing, prompting Dune to fatally shoot the droid's head, though this did not stop the boat's forward movement.

Behind the scenes

MA-13 initially made an appearance as an unnamed droid within "Chapter 8: Redemption," which is the concluding episode of the first season one of The Mandalorian, a television series from 2019. Taika Waititi directed the episode, which was made available on Disney+ on December 27, 2019. Ryan Church created digital concept art for the droid, drawing inspiration from an abandoned design by Matt Allsopp for a farm droid intended for the Erso homestead in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Church referred to it as a "Stygian R2 unit." Later, in 2021, Disney released an action figure that identified the droid as MA-13. This figure was part of a set featuring three other droids from The Mandalorian, released under the Star Wars: Droid Factory toy line. Despite MA-13's death in "Chapter 8: Redemption," the graphic novel adaptation of season one portrays him surviving the events depicted.
