The Evereni pirate leader Marda Ro acquired a set of staves, each encased in white mynock leather, sometime between 382 BBY and approximately 381 BBY. Around the latter year, she brandished one of the staves to intimidate the Twi'lek Fori Nagor in the streets of a settlement located on the planet Dantooine, after Nagor had been tailing Ro. At a point from 379 BBY onward, Ro employed the staves during a sparring session with the Evereni Vika Faer. She subsequently referenced these two instances of stave usage in a recording intended for her descendants, a recording that her great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had heard by 252 BBY.
Each of the staves was covered with white mynock leather.
Marda Ro, the Evereni founder of the pirate group that would evolve into the Nihil, came to possess the melee weapons between 382 BBY and approximately 381 BBY. In approximately the latter year, Ro carried the staves on her belt during her visit to the oldest settlement on the planet Dantooine, and then brandished one against the Twi'lek Fori Nagor after he had followed her from a public house within the settlement.
Sometime after 379 BBY, Ro transitioned from carrying the staves on her belt to using a harness on her back. During this later period, she once again used the staves while in a sparring match against the Evereni Vika Faer. During their fight, Faer managed to disarm Ro of one stave, but later in the fight Ro used the other stave to press against Faer's neck when the Evereni was lying on the ground. Soon after, Faer's brother Velya Faer interrupted their friendly match. Ro later mentioned the staves in a message she recorded for her descendants. By 252 BBY, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro, during his youth, had listened to her chronicles, including the entries in which the staves were mentioned.
The staves used by Marda Ro were depicted in flashbacks within the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," penned by Tessa Gratton and featured in the 2023 young-adult anthology titled The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, a component of the broader Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
