In the year 9 BBY, Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight, embarked on a quest. His destination was the Shattered Moon orbiting the planet Koboh, where he aimed to delve into the history of Dagan Gera. Gera was a Jedi Knight from the High Republic Era whom Kestis had previously met at the Forest Array on Koboh. Kestis's journey to the moon followed a visit to The Archive on the moon Jedha. It was there that Jedi Master Eno Cordova uncovered records indicating Gera's prior presence on the Shattered Moon. Kestis also sought to uncover more information about Tanalorr, a planet hidden within the Koboh Abyss that consumed Gera's thoughts. Upon his arrival, Kestis found the moon swarming with Bedlam Raiders and their battle droids, who were allied with Gera, leading him to believe they were guarding something of importance. His discovery of an Abyss compass, tools used by Gera to navigate to Tanalorr, led to a confrontation with Drya Thornne, a raider wielding a lightsaber. Kestis emerged victorious from their lightsaber duel, subsequently claiming Thornne's lightsaber's crossguard emitter to incorporate into his own lightsaber.
