Mofference

A Mofference represented a clandestine gathering. It was convened by the Imperial Central Committee of Grand Moffs within the isolated Mofference room situated on their designated Moffship. During 5 ABY, a Mofference took place while the Moffship was in orbit around the planet Tatooine. Grand Moff Bertroff Hissa presided over the assembly. The committee addressed the perceived danger presented by individuals posing as the Prophets of the Dark Side, a devoted group associated with the dark side of the Force. The Mofference's proceedings were disrupted by the arrival of the starship named Zorba Express into the system. The Grand Moffs were eager to confront the vessel's Hutt owner.

Description

A Mofference signified a confidential meeting organized by the Central Committee of Grand Moffs. These meetings were held within the Mofference room aboard their designated Moffship. This committee spearheaded a faction within the Galactic Empire. This faction challenged the claim of Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard to the Imperial throne. The Moffship served as their official space vehicle. The Mofference room was notably spacious and private.

History

Grand Moff Hissa, who chaired the Mofference of 5 ABY

During the year 5 ABY, as the Moffship made its orbit around the planet Tatooine, the Central Committee of Grand Moffs convened a Mofference. The assembly was presided over by Grand Moff Bertroff Hissa, the mastermind behind the committee's scheme to unseat Isard. Hissa had recently suffered the loss of his arms and legs in a pool of acid on the planet Duro, a consequence of betrayal by an Imperial Intelligence agent. This agent had been posing as Jedgar, the High Prophet of a dark side cult identified as the Prophets of the Dark Side. As a result, the Grand Moff conducted the meeting from his newly acquired hover chair.

Another Intelligence agent, who was himself masquerading as Supreme Prophet Kadann, had also laid claim to the Imperial throne. Several Grand Moffs had received rumors that he intended to dissolve their committee. During the Mofference, Hissa declared that any individual claiming to be a Prophet of the Dark Side found entering the Moffship would be taken as a hostage. Grand Moffs Dunhausen and Muzzer shared the rumors they had encountered. Grand Moff Thistleborn expressed his opinion that "Kadann" harbored animosity towards the committee due to their perceived support of Trioculus, a figurehead ruler who had asserted himself as the son of the former Galactic Emperor Palpatine. Trioculus was no longer in power, having recently been frozen in carbonite by Zorba the Hutt, a crime lord and one of his adversaries.

The Mofference faced an interruption when the droid MD-5 entered the Mofference room. MD-5 notified the Grand Moffs that Zorba's flagship, known as the Zorba Express, had been detected within the Tatoo system. The Moffship then ensnared the Zorba Express in a tractor beam. Subsequently, the committee suspended the Mofference to confront the Hutt.

Wookieepedia bids you all Dark Greetings!

The sole instance of a Mofference appearing in a Star Wars narrative occurs in Queen of the Empire, a book for young readers released in 1993 and penned by Paul and Hollace Davids. This book represents the fifth installment in an unnamed book series. While the series features multiple gatherings of the Central Committee of Grand Moffs, only one is specifically designated as a "Mofference" within the narrative. This term is a blend of the words "Moff" and "conference." The event unfolds in the book's sixth chapter, which is also entitled "The Mofference."

Despite the Davids' series being perceived as juvenile, including the wordplay of "Mofference," the term has garnered appreciation for its lightheartedness from both fans and Star Wars authors. Adrick Tolliver, an author, maintained a blog titled "The Mofference is now in session!" on StarWars.com for several years. Furthermore, a article by Pablo Hidalgo on StarWars.com in 2007, which explored various Star Wars superweapons, playfully suggested that the Tarkin superweapon would be less formidable if it were named the "Grand Mofference Center." Hidalgo later referenced the Mofference as a whimsical and unconventional aspect of the Davids' series in 2012's The Essential Reader's Companion. Paul Davids disclosed in a 2014 interview with Scum and Villainy Radio that the terms "Mofference" and "Moffship" were intentionally humorous, akin to the fish-like Admiral Ackbar originating from the planet "Calamari."
