Momaw Nadon

Momaw Nadon, also known by the moniker "Hammerhead," was an Ithorian male who faced exile from his homeworld of Ithor. This punishment stemmed from his decision to reveal his species' agricultural secrets to the Galactic Empire in a desperate attempt to safeguard his planet. During his time in exile, he resided on Tatooine and demonstrated support for the Alliance to Restore the Republic throughout the Galactic Civil War.

Biography

Originally from Ithor, Momaw Nadon, who would later be known as "Hammerhead", was exiled for betraying the agricultural secrets of his species to the Galactic Empire in a bid to save his planet. He then lived in exile on the desert planet of Tatooine, where he maintained a small secret garden located in the mountains to the south of Mos Eisley's spaceport.

During the Galactic Civil War, he showed sympathy for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the opposition to the Empire, and would shelter Rebel operatives within his garden. Rumors circulated regarding his backing of the rebellion. Nadon was present inside Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina when Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and the local farm boy Luke Skywalker entered, seeking a pilot who could transport them to Alderaan. He observed the confrontation between the pair and Dr. Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba, culminating in Kenobi using his lightsaber to dismember Baba and injure Evazan.

Behind the scenes

Momaw Nadon made his debut appearance in the 1977 motion picture Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope; however, he remained unnamed until being identified as "Hammerhead" for his Kenner Products action figure. His name and backstory were established in Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope, a 1989 Star Wars Legends sourcebook penned by Grant S. Boucher for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The reference book Ultimate Star Wars, published in 2015, verified his name and elements of his backstory as canon.
