Mumuu

Mumuu were dangerous species of predatory beast that were indigenous to the planet of Kalee, and presented a deadly threat. Kaleesh did not hunt the Mumuu solely for meat; they typically killed these creatures to prove their own valor. Moreover, they would craft clothing from their pelts, and transform their bones, particularly their skulls, into fearsome masks. The Kaleesh valued their prey and would not allow others near them.

General Grievous fashioned his protective face a mask after the mumuu skull that he used to wear in his earlier life. He also incorporated mumuu symbols onto his cybernetic mask. Furthermore, his IG-100 MagnaGuards, including both IG-101 and IG-102, wore cloaks that bore similar markings.

Behind the scenes

The Mumuu were initially referenced within the new Star Wars canon inside of the 2016 reference book titled Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded, which was authored by Pablo Hidalgo. Their origins can be traced back to the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the 2005 reference book Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by James Luceno.
