New Mandalorians
The New Mandalorians represented a pacifistic movement among the Mandalorian people, holding sway over the Mandalore system located in the Outer Rim. In contrast to the Old Mandalorians, who valued martial skill and military might, the New Mandalorians prioritized pacifism, neutrality, and non-violence. Until its collapse after the coup in 19 BBY, they were governed by a Duchess of Mandalore. Their pacifistic beliefs faced opposition from Death Watch, a group that aimed to reinstate the Mandalorian people's ancestral violent traditions. Despite their rejection of the old ways, the New Mandalorians' capital city of Sundari featured murals depicting their wartime exploits against the Jedi Order.
History
Mandalorian Civil War
Sometime prior to the Invasion of Naboo, a civil war erupted for dominance over the Outer Rim world of Mandalore. This conflict arose from competing ideologies within Mandalorian society, pitting the warrior clans and insurgents, who yearned for a return to their martial past, against the New Mandalorian government, headed by Satine Kryze of House Kryze.
During this period of conflict, the Jedi Order dispatched Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Mandalore. They remained there for a year, tasked with protecting the Duchess from assassination attempts by insurgents who employed bounty hunters, forcing them into hiding. Ultimately, Kryze emerged victorious, assuming control of Mandalore while the clans were banished to Concordia.
Death Watch insurgency
Although the exiled clans were thought to have perished on Concordia, the survivors had in reality reorganized and established the Death Watch splinter faction. This group stood against the pacifist Mandalorian government, desiring the restoration of Mandalore's warrior culture. Concordia's Governor, Pre Vizsla, and Duchess Satine's own sister, Bo-Katan Kryze, secretly led them.
