Tahiri Veila
Here is the rewritten MDX content, preserving all meaning and markdown syntax, but with significant changes to the sentence structure and wording:
**Tahiri Veila**, a [Human](/article/human/legends) [female](/article/gender/legends) who exhibited [Force-sensitive](/article/force-sensitive/legends) abilities, achieved the rank of [Jedi Knight](/article/jedi_knight/legends) within the [New Jedi Order](/article/new_jedi_order). During the [Second Galactic Civil War](/article/second_galactic_civil_war), Veila fell under the sway of [Darth Caedus](/article/darth_caedus), becoming his [Sith apprentice](/article/sith_apprentice/legends). Caedus, the [Dark Lord of the Sith](/article/dark_lord_of_the_sith/legends), led her to embrace the [dark side of the Force](/article/dark_side_of_the_force/legends). Veila's lineage included a [Jedi](/article/tahiri_veila%27s_grandfather) from the preceding [Old Order](/article/jedi_order/legends). Her [birth](/article/reproduction/legends) occurred on the [planet](/article/planet/legends) of [Tatooine](/article/tatooine/legends), where she was the daughter of [moisture farmers](/article/moisture_farmer/legends) named [Tryst](/article/tryst_veila) and [Cassa Veila](/article/cassa_veila). After the [deaths](/article/death/legends) of her [parents](/article/parent/legends), Veila was orphaned and subsequently adopted by [the leader](/article/sliven) of a [Tusken Raider](/article/tusken_raider/legends) tribe, who raised her in their ways. Around [22 ABY](/article/22_aby/legends), [Jedi Master](/article/jedi_master/legends) [Tionne Solusar](/article/tionne_solusar) recognized Veila's connection to [the Force](/article/the_force/legends) and brought her to the [Jedi Praxeum](/article/jedi_praxeum) located on [Yavin 4](/article/yavin_4/legends). There, she developed a close bond with [Anakin Solo](/article/anakin_solo), a fellow [Jedi Initiate](/article/jedi_initiate/legends) and grandson of [Anakin Skywalker](/article/anakin_skywalker/legends), the [Chosen One](/article/chosen_one/legends) who was also known as the [Sith Lord](/article/sith_lord/legends) [Darth](/article/darth/legends) Vader.
In the [Yuuzhan Vong War](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war)'s [second year](/article/26_aby/legends), the Yuuzhan Vong captured Veila during their [attack on the Jedi Praxeum](/article/invasion_of_yavin_4). Subsequently, [Mezhan Kwaad](/article/mezhan_kwaad) and [Nen Yim](/article/nen_yim) subjected her to "[shaping](/article/shaping_protocol)," intending to transform her into a hybrid of Jedi and [Yuuzhan Vong](/article/yuuzhan_vong). Following her rescue, Veila proved invaluable to the Jedi, as the shaping process granted her the ability to comprehend and communicate in the [enemy's language](/article/yuuzhan_vong_(language)). In [27 ABY](/article/27_aby/legends), Veila participated in the disastrous [Mission to Myrkr](/article/mission_to_myrkr) to eliminate the Jedi-hunting [voxyn](/article/voxyn) threat, where she witnessed the tragic death of Anakin Solo, for whom her feelings had grown beyond friendship. This emotional trauma caused her Vong-implanted personality, **Riina Kwaad**, to reemerge, attempting to seize control of Veila's mind.
After successfully integrating her two personalities, Veila journeyed to [Zonama Sekot](/article/zonama_sekot/legends) alongside [Corran Horn](/article/corran_horn/legends) and the Yuuzhan Vong Nen Yim, [Harrar](/article/harrar), and a disguised [Nom Anor](/article/nom_anor). She assisted Nen Yim in uncovering the connection between the Yuuzhan Vong and Zonama Sekot, a discovery that played a crucial role in ending the war and establishing peace with the Yuuzhan Vong. While on Zonama Sekot, she discovered that the Yuuzhan Vong personality imprinted upon her by shaper [Mezhan Kwaad](/article/mezhan_kwaad), was actually the personality of Nen Yim, along with memories. She came to terms with this revelation just before [Nom Anor](/article/nom_anor) killed Nen Yim. Veila participated in the [Battle of Yuuzhan'tar](/article/battle_of_yuuzhan%27tar), and after the war, she remained on Zonama Sekot with [Danni Quee](/article/danni_quee) and [Tekli](/article/tekli) to help the Yuuzhan Vong adapt to peacetime.
During the [Dark Nest Crisis](/article/dark_nest_crisis), Veila faced banishment to [Dagobah](/article/dagobah/legends) for divulging confidential Jedi information, but she later regained her active status within the Jedi Order by [40 ABY](/article/40_aby). Ultimately, she severed her ties with the Jedi during the Second Galactic Civil War and aligned herself with Darth Caedus, formerly known as the Jedi Jacen Solo and the elder brother of Anakin Solo. Caedus seduced Veila to the dark side of the Force by promising to use an ancient [technique](/article/force_power/legends) called [Flow-walking](/article/flow-walking) to allow her to revisit the deceased Solo from the past. After [assassinating](/article/assassin/legends) [Imperial](/article/imperial_remnant) [Head of State](/article/head_of_state/legends) [Gilad Pellaeon](/article/gilad_pellaeon/legends), under Darth Caedus's orders, during the [Second Battle of Fondor](/article/second_battle_of_fondor), Veila officially became the apprentice of the Dark [Lord](/article/lord/legends) of the Sith. However, she later disavowed the [Sith Order](/article/lumiya%27s_sith) shortly before Caedus's [death](/article/battle_of_uroro_station) in the [Battle of Shedu Maad](/article/battle_of_uroro_station) in [41 ABY](/article/41_aby).
For the subsequent three years, Veila existed as a virtual pariah, having rejected her allegiances to the Jedi, the Sith, and the [Galactic Alliance](/article/galactic_federation_of_free_alliances). During her time as a [bounty hunter](/article/bounty_hunter/legends) in [43 ABY](/article/43_aby), she aided the Jedi Order in countering the schemes of [Chief of State](/article/chief_of_state_(galactic_alliance)) [Natasi Daala](/article/natasi_daala), the Alliance's [anti-Jedi](/article/anti-jedi_sentiment/legends) leader, who exploited a [Force psychosis](/article/force_psychosis) phenomenon affecting some Jedi, such as [Seff Hellin](/article/seff_hellin), to undermine the Order. Veila was subsequently placed on [trial](/article/trial_of_tahiri_veila) for Gilad Pellaeon's assassination but escaped in [44 ABY](/article/44_aby). She then sought refuge with [Leia Organa Solo](/article/leia_organa_solo/legends) and [Han Solo](/article/han_solo/legends) for a brief period. Later, after the Solos turned her over to [Jagged Fel](/article/jagged_fel), Pellaeon's successor, she became the [Imperial Hand](/article/emperor%27s_hand/legends] of Fel. Her service to the Empire was short-lived, ultimately leading her back to the Jedi Order during their conflict with the [Lost Tribe of Sith](/article/lost_tribe_of_sith) and [the Force](/article/the_force/legends) [entity](/article/sentience/legends) known as [Abeloth](/article/abeloth).
## Biography
### Early life (13 ABY–22 ABY)
Tahiri's birthplace was the desert planet of [Tatooine](/article/tatooine-legends). Like many settlers there, her [parents](/article/veila_family), [Cassa](/article/cassa_veila) and [Tryst Veila](/article/tryst_veila), maintained a [moisture farm](/article/moisture_farm-legends) where she spent her formative years. At the young age of three, she became an orphan following a [Tusken Raider](/article/tusken_raider-legends) raid. However, she was adopted by [Sliven](/article/sliven), the tribe's leader, as a token of gratitude for the kindness her parents had shown him. Raised as a Tusken Raider, Tahiri formed a bond with a [bantha](/article/bantha-legends) she named [Bangor](/article/bangor). Displaying a natural affinity for [the Force](/article/the_force-legends), she was eventually discovered by [Jedi Master](/article/jedi_master-legends) [Tionne](/article/tionne_solusar) and brought to [Luke Skywalker's](/article/luke_skywalker-legends) [Jedi Praxeum](/article/jedi_praxeum) on [Yavin 4](/article/yavin_4-legends) around the age of nine in [22 ABY](/article/22_aby-legends).
### Jedi training (22 ABY–25 ABY)
It was there that she encountered [Anakin](/article/anakin_solo), the youngest of the Solo children, and they quickly became inseparable. At the Academy, Tahiri's unique habit was to go barefoot everywhere, enjoying the cool sensation of the floors against her feet, a welcome contrast to the scorching sands of Tatooine.

During one particular adventure with Anakin, they stumbled upon the dilapidated [Palace of the Woolamander](/article/palace_of_the_woolamander) and unearthed the [Golden Globe](/article/golden_globe) along with the ancient [Kushiban](/article/kushiban) Jedi Master [Ikrit](/article/ikrit). Ikrit revealed that the Golden Globe contained countless trapped souls and that his previous attempts to shatter it had been unsuccessful.
Subsequently, Tahiri and Anakin accompanied [Melodie](/article/melodie) [Lyric](/article/lyric) to her home world of [Yavin 8](/article/yavin_8-legends) for a significant form-changing ritual known as the [Changing Ceremony](/article/changing_ceremony). Shortly after their arrival, the trio faced attacks from various native predators, including an [avril](/article/avril), a [reel](/article/reel), several [raiths](/article/raith_(rodent)), and a [purella](/article/purella). Anakin, however, successfully fought them off. During their exploration, the pair discovered ancient carvings within a cave on the moon, mirroring those found at the Palace of the Woolamander. These carvings revealed that the Golden Globe held the souls of Massassi children imprisoned by the [Dark Lord](/article/dark_lord_of_the_sith-legends) [Exar Kun](/article/exar_kun-legends) in [3997 BBY](/article/3997_bby). They also learned that only [Force-sensitive](/article/force-sensitive-legends) children could break the Sith magic binding it.

Before Tahiri and Anakin could act, Sliven demanded her return to [Tatooine](/article/tatooine-legends). Accompanied by Anakin, Tahiri returned to her people and discovered that her biological parents were Tryst and Cassa Veila, who were also [Force-sensitives](/article/force-sensitive-legends) like their daughter but had tragically died in a Sand People raid. The two young Jedi were forced to rely on their Force abilities as never before, enduring the harsh conditions of the [Dune Sea](/article/dune_sea-legends), evading a [sarlacc](/article/sarlacc-legends), befriending a [Jawa](/article/jawa-legends) clan, and defeating a [krayt dragon](/article/krayt_dragon-legends). Following this ordeal, they returned to Yavin 4 and liberated the trapped souls within the Golden Globe.
Despite this, Anakin remained haunted by visions of himself as a [Dark Jedi](/article/dark_jedi-legends), as well as his heritage as the grandson of [Anakin Skywalker](/article/anakin_skywalker-legends), who had become the infamous Darth Vader. Furthermore, the resurrected Emperor [Palpatine](/article/palpatine-legends) had once attempted to possess him as an infant. To quell any potential for evil, the young Jedi requested to visit the very same cave on [Dagobah](/article/dagobah-legends) where Luke Skywalker had confronted his own darkness years prior, in order to face himself.
However, before the trip could be arranged, a youth named [Uldir Lochett](/article/uldir_lochett) was discovered as a stowaway on one of the supply ships to the Praxeum, the _Lightning Rod_. Despite his enthusiasm, he lacked any discernible Force sensitivity; in his own later assessment, he possessed only good hunches, a faint ability to sense Force usage, and a knack for causing trouble. Later, Tahiri, Ikrit, and [R2-D2](/article/r2-d2-legends) accompanied Anakin to Dagobah. There, they found that Uldir had stowed away on their transport and encountered various swamp creatures before finally reaching the cave where Skywalker had faced his dark side. Inside, Anakin confronted manifestations of his own doubts and ultimately emerged victorious.
Later that year, the [Jedi historian](/article/jedi_historian) Tionne discovered that Darth Vader had salvaged [Obi-Wan Kenobi's](/article/obi-wan_kenobi-legends) [lightsaber](/article/lightsaber-legends) after their duel on the [first Death Star](/article/ds-1_orbital_battle_station-legends) in [0 BBY](/article/0_bby-legends) and kept the artifact at [Bast Castle](/article/bast_castle) on [Vjun](/article/vjun-legends). Fearing that others might have already obtained it, Tionne quickly informed Master Skywalker at the Jedi Praxeum, as an [information broker](/article/information_broker-legends) had sold them this information. Believing it to be a simple training [trip](/article/mission_to_bast_castle), Tionne allowed Tahiri, Anakin, Uldir, and Ikrit to accompany her to Vjun aboard her personal transport, the _Lore Seeker_.
Upon arriving on Vjun, they spotted another vessel and feared that another group had arrived first. After navigating Bast Castle's automated defenses and traps, they found the lightsaber displayed in a protected alcove. Unfortunately, a group of mercenaries and pirates led by a cloaked man named [Orloc](/article/orloc) arrived. Orloc claimed to be a mage with great powers, and his henchmen stole Kenobi's lightsaber.

In response, the Jedi pursued Orloc and his henchmen through Bast Castle. During a confrontation, Orloc easily defeated Ikrit, who was without a lightsaber. He also manipulated Uldir by promising to teach him the Force skills he desired. However, the other Jedi managed to rescue Uldir and escape Bast Castle with Kenobi's lightsaber and the [holocron](/article/holocron-legends) of the ancient Jedi Master [Asli Krimsan](/article/asli_krimsan).
Despite escaping Orloc, Uldir became obsessed with the Mage's words and still believed that Orloc could unlock the [Force powers](/article/force_power-legends) within him, something that the Jedi Praxeum had failed to do. Uldir then stole Ikrit's ship, the [Sunrider](/article/sunrider_(starship)) (named after [Nomi Sunrider](/article/nomi_sunrider)), along with the two Jedi artifacts recovered from Bast Castle.
Uldir eventually located Orloc at an abandoned space station called [Exis Station](/article/exis_station-legends), where Tionne had met Luke years earlier during her relic hunt. Arriving at the derelict space city, Uldir found Orloc, who took him on as his student. The Mage had already established his base on the moon and planned to create his own Jedi Order. In reality, Orloc possessed no Force powers but relied on high-tech gimmicks to deceive others with demonstrations of so-called "Force power," a fact that Uldir failed to recognize.
Tionne, Ikrit, Anakin, and Tahiri set out to find Uldir aboard the _Lore Seeker_ and eventually reached Exis Station. Upon arrival, they attempted to convince Uldir that Orloc was a fraud and that he had been deceived. The Mage attacked the four Jedi with his high-tech gadgets, who retaliated using the Force.
During the [duel](/article/mission_to_exis_station), Tionne was injured, and Ikrit—who had vowed not to wield a lightsaber until he found worthy students—decided to join Anakin and Tahiri in the fight. Uldir then realized that Orloc was merely a charlatan who used technology to deceive others. Together, the Jedi defeated Orloc, thus eliminating a threat to the burgeoning [New Jedi Order](/article/new_jedi_order). Tahiri and her companions returned to the Jedi Praxeum, where Tionne dedicated much of her attention to Tahiri's training.

During the [Yuuzhan Vong War](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war), the extragalactic [Yuuzhan Vong](/article/yuuzhan_vong) targeted the Jedi Praxeum for destruction. In [26 ABY](/article/26_aby-legends), when the Yuuzhan Vong attacked, Tahiri had just turned fourteen. Shortly after the [Battle of Duro](/article/battle_of_duro_(yuuzhan_vong_war)), Anakin arrived at Yavin IV to warn of an impending attack, only to find that the [Peace Brigade](/article/peace_brigade) had already initiated an invasion. During the [Yuuzhan Vong assault](/article/invasion_of_yavin_4), she remained at the Academy to fight alongside Anakin and Ikrit while the other children sought refuge. However, Tahiri was captured, and Ikrit was ultimately killed while trying to protect her and her friends.
After the Vong seized control of the planet, they began to reshape the area, including Tahiri. [Master Shaper](/article/master_shaper) [Mezhan Kwaad](/article/mezhan_kwaad) and her assistant [Nen Yim](/article/nen_yim) engaged in heretical acts and began [shaping](/article/shaping_protocol) Tahiri to resemble the Yuuzhan Vong, forging a new personality called Riina Kwaad. She became fluent in their [language](/article/yuuzhan_vong_(language)) and developed a desire to fight alongside them. Her shaping was nearly complete when Anakin intervened. Tahiri ended up killing Mezhan Kwaad, and the two escaped to [Coruscant](/article/coruscant-legends).

Tahiri's shaping made her a valuable asset in the war and to the Jedi's understanding of the Vong, as she was one of the few who could speak their language fluently. In 27 ABY, she, along with Anakin and Jaina Solo, provided a "know-your-enemy" briefing to the Corellian Security personnel at the request of retired CorSec director Rostek Horn, partly due to her firsthand experience with the Yuuzhan Vong's braintwisting methods.
On Tahiri's subsequent adventure, she, Anakin, and [Corran Horn](/article/corran_horn-legends) journeyed to [Eriadu](/article/eriadu-legends). She and Anakin came to the aid of the [Rodian](/article/rodian-legends) Jedi [Kelbis Nu](/article/kelbis_nu), who was under attack by a group of [Peace Brigade](/article/peace_brigade) agents. Kelbis informed them that the Yuuzhan Vong intended to target [Yag'Dhul](/article/yag%27dhul-legends) next, due to its strategic location at the intersection of the [Corellian Trade Spine](/article/corellian_trade_spine-legends) and the [Rimma Trade Route](/article/rimma_trade_route-legends).
Unfortunately, they were arrested by Eriaduan judicials under the authority of a [Human](/article/human-legends) [male](/article/gender-legends) named [Lieutenant](/article/lieutenant-legends) [Themion](/article/themion). During their imprisonment, he kept them in separate cells and interrogated each of them. During Anakin's interrogation, Themion assaulted the young Jedi after Anakin refused to cooperate. This enraged Tahiri, who sensed it through the Force. She used her Force powers to break out of her cell and stormed into Anakin's cell.
Brandishing a [blaster](/article/blaster-legends) and under the influence of the Riina Kwaad personality, Tahiri shouted [Do-ro'ik vong pratte](/article/yuuzhan_vong_(language)#known_phrases) before slamming Themion against the wall. She then handcuffed him with his own [stun cuffs](/article/stuncuffs-legends). Another guard entered the cell, but Anakin threw him against the corridor wall, knocking him out and giving the two Jedi enough time to escape and reclaim their lightsabers.
This involved fighting through more judicials outside the prison and hijacking a police speeder. The two Jedi eventually reached the spaceport and escaped off-world with Corran Horn aboard their transport, the _Lucre_. During the journey to Yag'Dhul, the three Jedi swapped the _Lucre_ for a stolen Yuuzhan Vong [Yorik-stronha](/article/yorik-stronha) (spy ship-analogue), which they christened the _Stalking Moon_. Upon arriving at Yag'Dhul, they successfully warned the native mathematical [Givin](/article/givin-legends) of the [impending invasion](/article/battle_of_yag%27dhul_(26_aby)) of their planet. In response to the threat, the Givin decompressed the space station to eliminate the Vong, forcing Tahiri and Anakin into a storage locker. Feeling that the end was near, the two shared their first kiss, cementing the evolution of their friendship into something deeper. They were later rescued by Corran, while the combined Givin/New Republic fleet repelled the extragalactic invaders.

One of the most significant of Tahiri's [missions](/article/mission_to_myrkr) was the one she undertook with other [Jedi Knights](/article/jedi_knight-legends) to [Myrkr](/article/myrkr-legends) in order to destroy the [voxyn](/article/voxyn) queen. It was here that she witnessed the death of her beloved Anakin, leaving her devastated and plunged into deep sorrow.
Despite this, Tahiri accompanied Masters Luke and [Mara Jade Skywalker](/article/mara_jade_skywalker) to a Yuuzhan Vong-occupied Coruscant, playing a crucial role in defeating the dark side entity known as [Lord Nyax](/article/irek_ismaren).
Tahiri was formally recognized as a Jedi Knight in a ceremony on [Mon Calamari](/article/dac-legends) before the [Battle of Ebaq](/article/battle_of_ebaq) 9. She also commanded her own [X-wing](/article/t-65_x-wing_starfighter-legends) [squadron](/article/squadron-legends), known as the [Barefoot Squadron](/article/barefoot_squadron).
However, Tahiri's greatest challenge with the Yuuzhan Vong was internal. When [Han](/article/han_solo-legends) and [Leia Organa Solo](/article/leia_organa_solo-legends) took her and [Jaina Solo](/article/jaina_solo_fel) with them to reestablish contact with regions of [the galaxy](/article/the_galaxy-legends) that the Galactic Alliance had lost communication with, the Riina personality began to resurface. This mental conflict caused Tahiri to enter a catatonic state, where the two personalities fought for dominance. Eventually, both personalities realized that their only path to survival was to merge, essentially creating a new individual. However, her loyalty remained with the [Galactic Alliance](/article/galactic_federation_of_free_alliances).
Following this, Tahiri collaborated with Corran Horn in [extracting](/article/second_mission_to_coruscant_(yuuzhan_vong_war)) Nen Yim, the priest [Harrar](/article/harrar), and the prophet [Yu'shaa](/article/nom_anor) from Coruscant and bringing them to [Zonama Sekot](/article/zonama_sekot-legends). During this period, Tahiri requested to become Corran's Jedi apprentice to complete her training. He agreed on a temporary basis, pending Luke Skywalker's approval. She also participated in the [Battle of Yuuzhan'tar](/article/battle_of_yuuzhan%27tar) at the end of the war, having mastered the [Vongsense](/article/vongsense) taught to her by Jacen, and using it to aid the Galactic Alliance.

After the successful recovery of [Coruscant](/article/coruscant-legends) and the relocation of the Yuuzhan Vong to Zonama Sekot, a living world, Tahiri chose to remain on the [planet](/article/planet-legends), accompanied by [Tekli](/article/tekli) and [Danni Quee](/article/danni_quee), to assist the Vong in adapting to their new environment. However, while attempting to resolve a dispute between the [Extolled](/article/extolled) and [Warriors](/article/warrior_caste) in [La'oiko](/article/la%27okio), she experienced a peculiar Force-based summons originating from the [Unknown Regions](/article/unknown_regions-legends).
In conjunction with other survivors from the [Myrkr strike team](/article/myrkr_strike_team), Tahiri embarked on a journey to locate the source of this summons. They discovered that it was the being who had once been their Jedi comrade, [Raynar Thul](/article/raynar_thul), previously believed to have perished at Myrkr, but who had now transformed into the [Prime Unu](/article/prime_unu) of the hive-minded [Killik](/article/killik-legends) species. Alongside Tekli, Jaina Solo, [Alema Rar](/article/alema_rar), [Zekk](/article/zekk), [Lowbacca](/article/lowbacca), and [Tesar Sebatyne](/article/tesar_sebatyne), she found herself compelled to join the Killiks due to the Prime Unu's manipulation of the Myrkr [battle meld](/article/force-meld). She became a "[Joiner](/article/joiner)," an individual influenced and controlled by [the Colony](/article/the_colony) through Force and pheromonal manipulation so intense that it altered her brain structure.
Similar to how Jaina and Zekk formed a dyad within the Joiner meld, Tahiri seemed to have developed a bond with Tesar Sebatyne and Lowbacca. During the final months of the Killik conflict, Tesar and Lowbacca disclosed Raynar's survival to [Aryn Dro Thul](/article/aryn_dro_thul), his mother and the head of the powerful [Bornaryn Trading](/article/bornaryn_trading) company. Luke Skywalker viewed this as a betrayal of the Jedi Order, undermining his efforts to unify the Knights as [Grand Master](/article/grand_master-legends). Consequently, he exiled all three to Dagobah to contemplate the meaning of being a Jedi. Luke instructed them to remain there until he summoned them back, and not to leave until they felt that summons. Jacen inadvertently revealed his knowledge of Tesar and Lowbacca's actions in a subsequent conversation with Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker when he discovered that Tahiri had also been exiled, even though Luke had kept the reason for the trio's exile a secret. Jacen confessed that Tahiri had informed him about Tesar and Lowbacca's activities, leading Luke to accuse him of using her to spy on fellow Jedi.
### Second Galactic Civil War (40 ABY–41 ABY)
#### The Road to the Dark Side
In [40 ABY](/article/40_aby), Tahiri Veila's exile concluded, coinciding with the galaxy's descent into [another civil war](/article/second_galactic_civil_war). This conflict arose when a [Corellian-led](/article/corellia-legends) [secessionist movement](/article/confederation) challenged the dominance of the [Galactic Alliance](/article/galactic_federation_of_free_alliances). To combat the growing threat posed by the [Corellians](/article/corellian-legends) and their allies, Veila was appointed commander of [Team Tauntaun](/article/team_tauntaun), which included [Tiu Zax](/article/tiu_zax) and [Doran Sarkin-Tainer](/article/doran_sarkin-tainer). Their mission was to forcibly remove the Corellian [Head of State](/article/head_of_state-legends), [Thrackan Sal-Solo](/article/thrackan_sal-solo), from power. Simultaneously, [Team Purella](/article/team_purella) attempted to capture [Five World](/article/five_worlds) [Prime Minister](/article/five_world_prime_minister) [Aidel Saxan](/article/aidel_saxan). However, the mission was compromised by an unknown traitor who leaked information about the Alliance's plan to the Corellians. Anticipating the Jedi's objectives, [YVH droids](/article/yvh-series_battle_droid) were deployed to defend Corellia's secessionist leaders. Despite this unexpected setback, Veila's team managed to salvage a minor victory from a major defeat when Tiu remained behind in Sal-Solo's mansion to provide the Alliance with valuable intelligence from within enemy territory. Although Veila was hesitant to abandon Tiu, the Jedi were compelled to cut their losses and retreat to [Coruscant](/article/coruscant-legends).
Unbeknownst to the [Jedi Order](/article/new_jedi_order) at that time, [Jacen Solo](/article/darth_caedus) had pledged his allegiance to the [Sith](/article/sith-legends) after undergoing the [teachings](/article/sith_training) of the self-proclaimed [Dark Lady](/article/dark_lord_of_the_sith-legends), [Lumiya](/article/lumiya). Solo believed that Veila would be a more valuable [apprentice](/article/sith_apprentice-legends) than his younger cousin, [Ben Skywalker](/article/ben_skywalker). However, Lumiya was skeptical of Veila's long-term commitment to the Sith cause and argued that [Grand Master](/article/grand_master-legends) Luke Skywalker's son would be a more suitable disciple for Jacen Solo.

Jedi Knight Tahiri Veila

Following the death of his aunt, [Mara Jade Skywalker](/article/mara_jade_skywalker), which subsequently led to Lumiya's demise at the hands of Luke Skywalker, Jacen completed his training and transformed himself into Darth Caedus, the new Dark Lord of the Sith. Despite his [master's](/article/sith_master-legends) lack of faith in Tahiri Veila, Caedus still believed she could be useful to him, but only if he could persuade her to abandon her loyalty to the Jedi Order. He approached her on the anniversary of [Anakin Solo](/article/anakin_solo)'s [death](/article/death-legends), knowing that she would be emotionally vulnerable due to her lingering affection for his deceased brother.
Using a rare [Force technique](/article/force_power-legends) known as [Flow-walking](/article/flow-walking), Darth Caedus allowed Tahiri Veila to witness a specific moment in their shared past—specifically, her experience on the _Baanu Rass_ during the [Myrkr mission](/article/mission_to_myrkr) and her last encounter with Anakin Solo. Caedus claimed that he wanted to give Veila a second chance to give Anakin the farewell kiss she had denied him, while also acknowledging the potential dangers of tampering with time. However, Caedus' true intentions were far from altruistic. Just after she influenced her past self to kiss Anakin goodbye, Caedus deliberately ended the flow-walking session, causing her even greater anguish. He then exacerbated her emotional pain, guiding her toward the [dark side](/article/dark_side_of_the_force-legends), by reminding Veila that she had allowed Anakin to die without ever confessing her love for him.
Darth Caedus' scheme worked perfectly, as he had anticipated. Driven by a desire to see Anakin again through flow-walking, Veila became determined to please the Dark Lord in any way possible. She willingly submitted to Caedus, who successfully corrupted her to become his [spy](/article/spy-legends) within the Jedi Order. In exchange for her services, Caedus agreed to provide more flow-walking sessions so that Veila could repeatedly see Anakin. Simultaneously, he carefully nurtured Veila's addiction by never fully satisfying her, thereby intensifying her dependence on him and her willingness to carry out his commands. Throughout their time together, Darth Caedus and Tahiri Veila grew closer and possibly engaged in a physical relationship, although without any romantic feelings for each other.
Tahiri Veila proved to be a valuable asset to Darth Caedus, particularly as his spy within the Jedi Order. She was among the seventy Jedi [StealthX wing](/article/stealthx_wing) [pilots](/article/pilot-legends) organized by Luke Skywalker after he decided to commit the Order to fighting alongside the Galactic Alliance against the Corellian separatists. Flying with [Saba Sebatyne](/article/saba_sebatyne)'s squadron, the [Night Blades](/article/night_blades), Veila participated in the [Second Battle of Balmorra](/article/second_battle_of_balmorra) and the early stages of the [Battle of Kuat](/article/battle_of_kuat_(second_galactic_civil_war)). Concurrently, she effectively used her role as a spy to relay information about Jedi activities to Caedus. Before joining the Jedi on [Kashyyyk](/article/kashyyyk-legends), she informed the Dark Lord of Skywalker's intention to withdraw the Order from the conflict, due to his disillusionment with the Galactic Alliance's conduct in the war.
During the [Battle of Kashyyyk](/article/battle_of_kashyyyk_(second_galactic_civil_war)), Veila witnessed the initial stages of Caedus' orbital bombardment of the [Wookiee](/article/wookiee-legends) homeworld. She departed while the battle was still ongoing to pursue Caedus' parents, [Han](/article/han_solo-legends) and [Leia Organa Solo](/article/leia_organa_solo-legends), as they traveled to [Hapes](/article/hapes-legends). When she attempted to arrest them as traitors to the Galactic Alliance, Veila engaged Leia in a [brief duel](/article/duel_in_the_royal_hangar) until they were interrupted by the [Queen Mother](/article/queen_mother) [Tenel Ka Djo](/article/tenel_ka_djo). As a consequence of her actions, Veila inadvertently turned Tenel Ka and the entire [Hapes Consortium](/article/hapes_consortium-legends) against Darth Caedus. Before being unceremoniously escorted off-world by the [Hapans](/article/hapan), Veila was placed under arrest, despite her protests, and her [StealthX](/article/stealthx) was confiscated by Hapan authorities.
Caedus was well aware that Veila's loyalty to him stemmed more from her obsession with flow-walking—and, by extension, Anakin Solo—than from any genuine commitment to his [personal vision of the future](/article/new_order_(darth_caedus)). Nevertheless, her dependence on Caedus generally worked to his advantage, primarily because Veila worked harder to gain the Dark Lord's approval by taking initiatives without his direct orders. After her return to the Galactic Alliance, Caedus continued to flow-walk with Veila back to key moments in Anakin's life as a means of further ensuring her loyalty to him. Although he still hoped to use her as a spy within the Order, the Jedi eventually discovered Veila's new allegiance, effectively ending her role as an undercover agent before she could locate the Jedi's secret base.

Tahiri Veila, apprentice to the Sith Lord Darth Caedus.
</InsImage>
After his failed attempts to turn Ben Skywalker into a Sith apprentice, Darth Caedus shifted his focus to Tahiri Veila, who quickly replaced Skywalker as Caedus' primary subordinate. Caedus acknowledged Veila's intellectual cunning, overall competence, and her suitability as a confidante. Veila made an effort to conduct herself more formally around the Dark Lord, who became a Joint-[Chief of State](/article/chief_of_state_(galactic_alliance)) alongside [Admiral](/article/admiral-legends) [Cha Niathal](/article/cha_niathal), and began offering her own insights during their strategic discussions regarding the war. Furthermore, Caedus even admitted to himself that he enjoyed Veila's company more than Skywalker's.
Together, the Sith Lord and his prospective apprentice traveled to [Fondor](/article/fondor-legends) on the [Anakin Solo](/article/anakin_solo_(starship)), a GAG [Star Destroyer](/article/imperial_ii-class_star_destroyer-legends) named in honor of Caedus' deceased brother. The purpose of their visit to Fondor, a world that had abandoned the Galactic Alliance to join the rebellious Confederation, was for Caedus to personally assess Veila's resolve and strength of will to become a true Sith. By this point, he had grown tired of her persistent refusal to let go of Anakin Solo. He also resented having to indulge her childish romantic fantasies with Anakin solely to secure her loyalty. Consequently, Caedus was more determined than ever to break Veila's incessant longing for a dead boy she could never have.
As a squadron of [Fondorian](/article/fondorian) [starfighters](/article/starfighter-legends) approached the _Anakin Solo_, Caedus ordered the shields to be deactivated, placing his [flagship](/article/flagship-legends) and everyone aboard in a vulnerable position. He then informed Veila that the fate of their [Star Destroyer](/article/star_destroyer-legends) and all those within it rested in her hands; she alone had to decide whether to fire on the Fondorians or risk allowing them to attack first. Although there was a possibility that the Fondorians were simply cautiously investigating the Alliance vessel rather than intending to attack, Caedus made sure Veila understood that hundreds of the _Anakin Solo_'s crew were in danger if the Fondorians decided to open fire on their vulnerable target. Despite her initial hesitation, the Fondorians' increasingly close proximity to the _Anakin Solo_ prompted her to order the destruction of the starfighters. With Veila's decision made, Caedus ordered a hasty retreat to Coruscant. Although she potentially saved many lives aboard the Star Destroyer and further impressed Darth Caedus, Veila was haunted by her choice since she killed an entire squadron that did not provoke an attack by striking first.
Upon their return to Coruscant, Caedus decided to test Veila even further to determine her worthiness as an apprentice. At Niathal's insistence that military assets should only be used by enlisted personnel, Caedus formally recruited Veila as a [junior lieutenant](/article/junior_lieutenant-legends) within the [Galactic Alliance Guard](/article/galactic_alliance_guard). In her new role, [Lieutenant](/article/lieutenant-legends) Tahiri Veila wore a dark blue uniform with black military-issued boots, despite her personal discomfort with footwear. She even styled her hair to better conform to military standards. Although she had not yet convinced Caedus that she could be a better apprentice than Ben Skywalker, she had earned enough of his trust to be entrusted with new responsibilities. In addition to her role as his spy, Veila also became Caedus' representative to the [Imperial Remnant](/article/imperial_remnant).
After traveling to [Bastion](/article/bastion-legends), Veila met personally with [Grand Admiral](/article/grand_admiral-legends) [Gilad Pellaeon](/article/gilad_pellaeon-legends) at the [Imperial Palace](/article/imperial_palace_(bastion)) of [Ravelin](/article/ravelin). Although she personally believed that her master should focus more on gaining the support of the [Moff](/article/moff-legends) [Council](/article/council_of_moffs-legends), Caedus knew that he needed to convince Pellaeon since the Moffs were unwilling to act without his approval. Despite Pellaeon's loathing for Darth Caedus and the [Yuuzhan Vong](/article/yuuzhan_vong), which Veila unintentionally reminded him of, he was pleasantly surprised to see the young woman hold her own in a conversation with him. Her strategy was simple and direct—to discuss the potential benefits that the Imperials' small Empire could gain by joining forces with the Alliance. Both Veila and Pellaeon knew that the Moffs wanted to accept Caedus' offer, and it was only a matter of time before even the Grand Admiral himself would have to yield to their wishes. When Pellaeon requested more details about the proposed arrangements between the Alliance and the Remnant, information which Veila did not possess, Veila quickly recovered by reminding the Grand Admiral that she was only on Bastion to present the initial offer; the details would have to be worked out with the two Joint-Chiefs of State. Although it would take some time before Pellaeon agreed to unite the Remnant with the Alliance as an allied force, Caedus was pleased with Veila's performance on Bastion and even congratulated her.
Although she disappointed Caedus with her failure to locate the Jedi's secret base, Veila continued to dedicate herself to the task. Ironically, she correctly guessed that Luke Skywalker would settle on his old base at [Endor](/article/endor-legends), but Caedus refused to believe that his uncle would be so predictable, and thus he missed an opportunity to eliminate the Jedi in one swift stroke by dismissing Veila's opinion. As time passed, Veila grew closer to Caedus as his right-hand and sole confidante. She witnessed more interactions between Caedus and Niathal, which initially baffled her given their obvious contempt for each other; she became privy to more of the Dark Lord's plans and inner thoughts, all of which he confided in her; and she effectively served as the gatekeeper for access to Darth Caedus, at least when he was in seclusion. Some of the _Anakin Solo_'s crew began to suspect that Caedus and Veila were romantically involved; Niathal viewed their relationship as more of a "gang boss and junior henchman" dynamic. In Niathal's eyes, Darth Caedus was a natural leader on the battlefield and in politics, while Tahiri Veila served as his fixer, messenger, and spy.
Just before the start of the [Second Battle of Fondor](/article/second_battle_of_fondor), Darth Caedus boarded the [Imperial Star Destroyer](/article/turbulent-class_star_destroyer) [Bloodfin](/article/bloodfin_(star_destroyer)) for a senior staff session with Niathal and Pellaeon; Tahiri Veila remained close by his side. Due to the animosity he sensed from his two "allies," Caedus felt it was essential to closely monitor the activities of both Niathal and Pellaeon. However, since his focus would be entirely on Fondor during the battle, he would have to rely on Veila to act as his eyes and ears. As Joint-Chief of State and a popular leader within the Galactic Alliance, Caedus could count on the loyalty of his own people more than he could with the Imperial Remnant, especially under the control of a man who utterly loathed him. Therefore, he decided to leave Veila on the _Bloodfin_ to serve as a liaison while also spying on the Alliance's Imperial allies. Pellaeon reluctantly agreed to allow Veila to remain on his flagship but remained mistrustful of the woman he considered Caedus' personal [villip](/article/villip). Before returning to the _Anakin Solo_, Caedus discreetly instructed Veila to remain vigilant of the Grand Admiral's actions. If Pellaeon interfered with Caedus' plan in any way during the fighting, Veila was to stop him by any means necessary—including lethal force. Veila felt slightly uneasy about this seemingly callous order, yet she remained committed to the Dark Lord's cause and assured him that she would do her duty to the extreme when absolutely necessary.
In a final attempt to ensure Veila's complete dedication to his side, Caedus stated that all of his actions, including the morally questionable ones, were aimed at creating a galaxy where heroes like Anakin Solo did not have to die prematurely. Under his leadership, the Galactic Alliance would become a force so powerful that no enemy could ever inflict the [same level of devastation](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war) that the Yuuzhan Vong had brought to the galaxy. As Caedus left to return to his own Star Destroyer, he was slightly disturbed by Veila's parting remark. He realized that Veila was far more perceptive than he had initially believed; she knew that he was manipulating her obsession with his brother. Although he was unsure whether Veila genuinely believed in a Sith government or if she was more ambitious than he thought, Caedus was pleased to see that his prospective apprentice had finally developed the cunning intellect of a Sith—an advantage he could fully exploit.
When Niathal betrayed Caedus in an attempt to undermine his authority by unilaterally declaring a cease-fire with Fondor without consulting him, the [Galactic Alliance Defense Force](/article/galactic_alliance_defense_force) was effectively split in two as its personnel were forced to choose between the two Joint-Chiefs of State. However, since Caedus was far more popular with the soldiers than the less charismatic Niathal, the Dark Lord retained the majority of the Galactic Alliance's war fleets, leaving Niathal with only a [small minority of supporters](/article/alliance-in-exile). Even though Caedus maintained control of the official Galactic Alliance, Pellaeon allowed his personal opinion of the Dark Lord to influence his decision to support Niathal and her fellow traitors. The senior Moff commanders on the _Bloodfin_ strongly objected to Pellaeon's betrayal of Darth Caedus; Veila shared their concerns and became determined to convince the Grand Admiral to recommit the Remnant to Caedus' cause.
When Pellaeon retired to his personal cabin, leaving a seething group of Moffs quietly outraged over his decision, Tahiri Veila followed him in a final attempt to change the old Imperial's mind. She argued that the suffering in the war would escalate to unprecedented levels if the Alliance were allowed to destroy itself from within. If Darth Caedus were removed from power, the Alliance would revert to its self-destructive tendencies that had allowed the Corellian secessionist movement to spiral out of control. When Pellaeon refused to listen to reason, a frustrated Veila drew her [GA-issue officer's blaster](/article/blaster-legends) and implored him to reconsider his decision. At that moment, she finally confessed her faith in Darth Caedus and his ability to bring absolute victory to the Galactic Alliance. Like him, she also believed that Fondor had to be made an example of to demonstrate the Alliance's commitment to establishing a firm government of order and unity. To achieve this, all threats to the Galactic Alliance had to be neutralized, starting with Fondor. Although she knew that the Moffs would be glad to be rid of such a thorn in their side, Veila felt compelled to offer the Grand Admiral one last chance to live in exchange for joining Caedus. When Pellaeon signaled the Imperial fleet to side with Niathal, Veila shot him through the chest without hesitation. As she and the Moffs watched him slowly succumb to his fatal wound, the Moffs quickly assumed overall command and directed the Remnant back to Caedus' side. With the exception of the _Bloodfin_'s crew and the [Maw Irregular Fleet](/article/maw_irregular_fleet) of Admiral [Natasi Daala](/article/natasi_daala), the vast majority of the Imperial Remnant ignored the Grand Admiral's dying wish and threw their support behind the Dark Lord of the Sith.

As soon as Veila reached out to the _Anakin Solo_ to affirm the Dark Lord of the Imperials' continued loyalty to the real Alliance, Darth Caedus commended her for preventing the Galactic Alliance's downfall and devastation. He also appreciated her lack of excitement about killing an elderly figure like Pellaeon, even though it was a heroic sacrifice intended to save numerous lives in the long run. This also demonstrated to him that Veila killed out of necessity rather than for enjoyment, a crucial trait for any Sith to avoid becoming a megalomaniac like Darth Sidious. Besides maintaining control of the Alliance, Caedus also achieved another personal triumph—his extensive quest for a suitable apprentice had finally concluded. After reevaluating Tahiri Veila, Darth Caedus deemed her prepared to stand by his side and formally recognized her as his apprentice. With the Sith Order restored to two active Sith Lords, adhering to Darth Bane's Rule of Two, Caedus pledged to rescue his new disciple, even at the cost of his own life.
Upon his return to Coruscant, Darth Caedus solidified his new position as the sole Chief of State of the true Galactic Alliance, while Niathal and her supporters were officially labeled as traitors by the government. As the Dark Lord tightened his grip on Coruscant through the secret police operations of the Galactic Alliance Guard, his apprentice resumed her search for Luke Skywalker and his fugitive Jedi. Veila took the initiative again by disobeying her master and searching Endor. Her hunch that Skywalker would utilize one of his old bases from the Galactic Civil War proved correct, contrary to Caedus' initial belief, but she arrived too late. The Jedi had already moved to a new secret location, and thus she continued her pursuit of her former comrades.
#### Darth Caedus' enforcer
To pinpoint Darth Caedus' location, Ben Skywalker led a Jedi team to Coruscant to personally meet with his contact. [Captain](/article/captain-legends) [Lon Shevu](/article/lon_shevu), Skywalker's ally and informant within the Galactic Alliance Guard, subtly informed the Jedi that Caedus was situated on [Nickel One](/article/nickel_one). However, Skywalker then realized that the Guard's spies had detected him. During the [resulting conflict](/article/skirmish_on_coruscant_(second_galactic_civil_war)) in [Galactic City](/article/galactic_city-legends), Skywalker and Shevu feigned fighting each other to safeguard the captain's cover. Their performance was interrupted, though, when Lieutenant Tahiri Veila charged at them, wielding her lightsaber; a unit of GAG troopers and commandos followed closely behind her. When Skywalker attempted to defend himself against the Guard's shock troops, Veila exploited the young Jedi's distraction and disabled him. Shevu, also rendered unconscious during the fight, was loaded onto the [Doomsled](/article/doomsled) alongside Skywalker. Leia Organa Solo and her daughter, Jaina, tried to rescue Skywalker by chasing the Doomsled, but Veila anticipated their move and activated a gas trap to stop her master's mother and sister. Although they survived an ambush by GAG troopers, the two Solos were compelled to abandon their rescue attempt to escape from Coruscant.
While Darth Caedus oversaw the war's progress from the front lines, Tahiri Veila remained on Coruscant, where she began interrogating her Jedi prisoner. Attempting to extract information about the Jedi Order's secret base from Ben Skywalker, Veila resorted to torture to force Skywalker's compliance. When torture failed to yield the desired result, she opted for another interrogation tactic—seduction. But when Skywalker resisted Veila's charms, the female Sith Lord revealed that she had one more card to play—Lon Shevu. She had known for some time that Shevu was a traitor allied with the Jedi, and she used him as a pawn to capture Skywalker. When Veila threatened Skywalker's friend's life, however, she inadvertently overused her powers—enhanced by the dark side—by [electrocuting](/article/force_lightning-legends) Shevu to death. Veila was horrified by her actions and tried unsuccessfully to revive the captain. Skywalker seized Veila's distraction to break free of his restraints, and then incapacitated the Sith long enough to flee from Coruscant.
Soon after Skywalker's escape, Veila departed Coruscant to rejoin her master, who was in the process of interrogating the Mandalorian prisoner [Mirta Gev](/article/mirta_gev) on the _Anakin Solo_. Although she had to report her failure to discover the location of the Jedi Order's secret base, Veila was pleased to reveal that [Prince](/article/prince-legends) [Isolder](/article/isolder) had been captured and might possess the knowledge of where the Jedi were hiding. To her surprise, however, Caedus explained how he had succeeded where Veila had failed. Using a [blood trail](/article/blood_trail) secretly planted on Jaina Solo during the [First Battle of Roche](/article/battle_of_roche), Caedus discovered that the Jedi had relocated their base of operations to the planet [Shedu Maad](/article/shedu_maad).
Regarding Caedus' desire to learn which Jedi were part of Gev's strike team, the Dark Lord sought his apprentice's input on how to make the prisoner more cooperative. Thinking practically, Veila understood that torture and death threats were unlikely to work on Gev, mainly due to the excessive pride that Mandalorians possessed. However, she also realized that such ego, further amplified by Gev's physical vanity, was also a valuable asset, and she suggested that disfigurement could have the desired effect on Gev. Yet simple humiliation would not suffice; Veila explained that Gev would have to be utterly mutilated to destroy her beauty so that she would be pitied by anyone who saw her. Although Veila's suggestion instilled great fear in Gev, the Mandalorian refused to cooperate, leading Caedus to realize that the threat of disfigurement alone was unlikely to work.
The Sith Lords' interrogation of Gev was interrupted by the arrival of a female Human [lieutenant](/article/unidentified_imperial_lieutenant_(imperial_remnant)), wearing a [medic](/article/medic-legends) [uniform](/article/uniform) with a [Remnant insignia](/article/imperial_crest-legends), escorted by a GAG trooper. Although Caedus ordered the [Imperial officer](/article/imperial_officer-legends) to leave until he had finished examining Gev, Veila inquired why she wanted to see the prisoner. After struggling to contain her fear of Caedus, the lieutenant explained that the Moff Council wanted her to collect a sample of Gev's blood so that the Remnant could create a [nanovirus](/article/nanovirus) that would target and kill everyone related by blood to Boba Fett and his [family](/article/clan_fett). Veila's inquiry into the lieutenant's intentions succeeded in breaking Gev's silence, and she agreed to cooperate if Caedus promised to heal her and prevent the nanovirus's creation.
Although Veila sensed that Gev was being truthful when she said that Jaina Solo was the only Jedi in her strike team, Caedus refused to believe that Luke Skywalker had not been present during his duel with Solo as well. Unaware that Skywalker used the Force to deceive Caedus, Gev was unable to convince the Dark Lord that only Solo was physically present during the battle. As a result of Gev's initial honesty, Caedus agreed to heal her injuries but also allowed the Imperial lieutenant to draw a blood sample from Gev. The lieutenant then informed the two Sith Lords that the nanovirus would be completed in one to three days before being deployed to [Mandalore](/article/mandalore-legends), ensuring that neither Fett nor his progeny would ever be able to return to the Mandalorian homeworld. Caedus, seeking to strengthen his influence over the Imperial Remnant, ordered Veila to tell the Moff Council to create a command committee that would operate under his guidance to better coordinate Alliance and Remnant forces.
#### Discontent
Shortly after Ben Skywalker's escape from Coruscant, Tahiri Veila left the Galactic Capital and met up with Darth Caedus as the Second Galactic Civil War neared its end. Using a [blood trail](/article/blood_trail) that Caedus had discreetly planted on Jaina Solo at the [Second Battle of](/article/second_battle_of_roche) [Roche](/article/roche_system), he successfully discovered the location of the Jedi Order's secret base by following his twin sister to [Shedu Maad](/article/shedu_maad). With a mixed fleet of Alliance and Imperial [starships](/article/starship-legends), the Dark Lord and his apprentice oversaw the [assault](/article/battle_of_uroro_station) on the [Jedi and their allies](/article/jedi_coalition) from the bridge of the _Anakin Solo_.
Although the Jedi squadron of StealthX fighters failed to eliminate their primary target, Darth Caedus, the _Anakin Solo_ sustained extensive damage to its hull and structural integrity; the bridge itself was nearly destroyed by a [powerful shadow bomb](/article/jedi_shadow_bomb). During a meeting between the two Sith Lords and the Moff Council, Alliance and Imperial commanders grew increasingly concerned by the enemy's strength and resistance against their attack. However, Caedus assured them that their losses were insignificant since the war would ultimately end in their favor—a result that he personally foresaw in a [vision](/article/force_vision-legends) of his [daughter's](/article/allana_djo_solo) future. Nevertheless, Veila suggested that her master could prevent such losses by altering the past through the flow-walking ability.
Caedus, having already achieved his goal of converting Veila to the dark side, revealed the true nature of flow-walking to his apprentice—the technique was incapable of time alteration. He had merely allowed Veila to believe that the past could be changed through flow-walking, and even encouraged her misconception, so that she would willingly submit to his service. Even though Veila had influenced her younger self to kiss Anakin Solo just before his death, the altered event did not actually occur in the timeline. The flow-ability only allowed Veila to alter her perception of the past, but changing anything that had already happened was an unattainable goal.
Veila was completely shocked and outraged by Caedus' betrayal of her trust. From the beginning of their involvement since Caedus turned to the dark side, Veila's support for him was primarily driven by her belief in the possibilities of flow-walking. By serving Caedus with loyalty and devotion, she had hoped to eventually learn the technique so that she could return to the past and prevent Anakin's death. The revelation of her master's deception left Veila bitter and hateful towards Caedus. She had abandoned her life as a Jedi, betrayed the Order, and committed murder, all on behalf of her Sith Master. Yet her main reason for doing so had been based on a lie. Despite the obvious rift that had just grown between the master and apprentice, Caedus simply told Veila to embrace her anger and hatred to become even more immersed in the power of the dark side. Though Veila ultimately remained loyal to Caedus, her commitment to his cause was severely undermined, and her resolve as a Sith weakened.

While Darth Caedus remained aboard the _Anakin Solo_ with the Moffs, Tahiri Veila was dispatched to the surface of Shedu Maad with [stormtroopers](/article/stormtrooper-legends) of the [Imperial Elite Guard](/article/imperial_elite_guard). Their mission was to infiltrate and destroy the Jedi base with a [baradium](/article/baradium-legends) [bomb](/article/bomb-legends). However, she and her [troopers](/article/trooper-legends) were intercepted by Ben Skywalker, [Taryn Zel](/article/taryn_zel), and a [squad](/article/squad-legends) of [elite](/article/her_majesty%27s_select_commandos) [Hapan](/article/hapan) [soldiers](/article/soldier-legends). Her stormtroopers distracted their opponents long enough for Veila to escape into a tunnel, where she continued her mission; Skywalker pursued her to prevent the base's destruction.
As the Grand Master's son and the Dark Lord's apprentice fought, Veila's concentration faltered, and her attacks were ineffective in causing any harm or injury to Skywalker, who began to suspect that Veila was simply trying to get herself killed. Sensing Veila's doubt and uncertainty, Skywalker seized an opportunity to reason with the emotionally disturbed Veila. He tried to turn her against Darth Caedus, first by imploring Veila to reconsider her decision to detonate the bomb. He also argued that, despite all she had done in service to the Dark Lord, Veila was not a Sith at heart. Veila, emotionally and spiritually exhausted, succumbed to Skywalker's psychological warfare and ceased her attack.
Due to the guilt she carried over her actions as Caedus' spy and apprentice, combined with her disappointment with the true nature of the flow-walking technique, Tahiri Veila renounced her allegiance to Darth Caedus and the Sith. However, she also refused to return to the Jedi Order and considered disappearing from public life. But when Skywalker sympathetically offered to lie on Veila's behalf to cover her escape, she suddenly changed her mind and rejected Skywalker's offer. It was her master's lie, along with her lingering emotional attachment to Anakin Solo, that had led her down the path of the dark side in the first place. Instead, she surrendered unconditionally and, prepared to face the consequences of her actions, was taken into Jedi custody.
Around the same time, Jaina Solo infiltrated the _Anakin Solo_ and engaged her twin brother in a [final duel](/article/battle_of_uroro_station). Although she suffered near-fatal injuries herself, Solo eventually killed Darth Caedus in cold blood by stabbing him through the heart. With the master's death and the apprentice's rejection of the dark side, [Lumiya's Sith](/article/lumiya%27s_sith) Order was dissolved, and the Second Galactic Civil War came to an end. Through a combination of negotiation and a strong show of force, both the Imperial Remnant and the Confederation agreed to end the conflict. The Galactic Alliance retained its primacy throughout the galaxy, and the Jedi's fugitive status was revoked, allowing the Order to reestablish its main presence on Coruscant.
During her time in custody, Veila provided the Jedi and their allies with information regarding the final actions of Darth Caedus and the Moffs just before the war's conclusion. Through the former Sith apprentice, the Jedi learned that [Mandalore](/article/mandalore-legends) had been infected with a planet-wide [virus of nano-killers](/article/nanovirus). The virus was programmed to target and kill anyone connected by [blood](/article/blood-legends) to the [Fett genome](/article/clan_fett). Thus, neither Boba Fett nor his granddaughter, Mirta Gev, would ever be able to return to the Mandalorian homeworld without risking certain death.
### Bounty hunter (41 ABY—43 ABY)
#### Rebuilding an identity
[Two years](/article/43_aby) after the death of Darth Caedus, his former Sith apprentice, Tahiri Veila, struggled with indecision and uncertainty about her purpose in life. She had lost Anakin Solo, abandoned her life as a Jedi, and betrayed the Order; she fell to the dark side and became a disciple to a Sith Lord, killing many people in his name. Her guilt ultimately drove her to reject the idea of rejoining the Jedi Order since she felt neither worthy nor truly redeemed. Instead, Veila chose to pursue the life of a [bounty hunter](/article/bounty_hunter-legends), taking the time necessary to come to terms with her actions in the Second Galactic Civil War.
Around the same time, however, the Jedi Order was gradually threatened by Caedus' successor, the openly [Anti-Jedi](/article/anti-jedi_sentiment-legends) [Natasi Daala](/article/natasi_daala). As the new Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, Chief Daala's administration relentlessly pursued policies that hindered the Order's freedom. When political pressure forced Luke Skywalker to abdicate his title as Grand Master before leaving Coruscant in exile, the Jedi sought to discreetly retaliate against Daala to protect themselves from her draconian measures. Thus, Jaina Solo founded the clandestine organization known as [Darkmeld](/article/darkmeld), composed of several members of the Order. Among the Jedi asked to join, Solo sought to recruit the former Jedi Tahiri Veila in person.
Although Veila agreed to join Darkmeld, she adamantly rejected Solo's attempts to convince her to return to the Jedi Order. Even though she was no longer an official member of the Order, the Daala administration sought to attach an [observer](/article/jedi_supervisor) to her, mainly because of Daala's plan to monitor Jedi activities through government-appointed observers. When she refused to have [Trinnolt Makken](/article/trinnolt_makken), or anyone else, as her observer, Veila was put on [trial](/article/the_galactic_federation_of_free_alliances_versus_tahiri_veila) in the [Ninth Hall of Justice](/article/ninth_hall_of_justice) to defend herself against the Anti-Jedi laws.
[Nawara Ven](/article/nawara_ven), a former [pilot](/article/pilot-legends) of [Rogue Squadron](/article/rogue_squadron-legends) and Veila's attorney, argued that his client was not bound by the restrictions on the Jedi Order simply because of her [connection](/article/force-sensitive-legends) to [the Force](/article/the_force-legends). The [Court of Justice](/article/court_of_justice), headed by [Chief Justice](/article/chief_justice) [Uved Pledesin](/article/uved_pledesin), ultimately sided with Veila, citing that it was not feasible to monitor the entire Jedi Order, its former members, and everyone else who possessed a strong affinity to the Force. The outcome of Veila's trial, combined with the Court's rejection of Daala's attempt to impose limitations on ex-Jedi through "_guilt by association_," was hailed as a victory for the Jedi Order. It also proved that Daala had not yet gained absolute control over the legal system. Shortly afterward, Veila became reacquainted with [Dab Hantaq](/article/dab_hantaq), a fellow veteran of the Yuuzhan Vong War and an observer assigned to Jaina Solo. She was visibly disturbed to see Hantaq, who was secretly infatuated with her, after so many years, due to his surgically-influenced resemblance to Anakin Solo.
When [Seff Hellin](/article/seff_hellin), a renegade Jedi suffering from [Force psychosis](/article/force_psychosis), [attempted to infiltrate](/article/raid_on_the_armand_isard_correctional_facility) the [Armand Isard Correctional Facility](/article/armand_isard_correctional_facility) to rescue [Valin Horn](/article/valin_horn), Veila accompanied Jaina Solo and a team of Darkmeld agents to capture Hellin. Their goal was to apprehend an infected Jedi to learn the cause of the mysterious disease before hopefully developing a cure. After painstaking efforts, Veila and her team succeeded in their mission, though not without arousing the suspicions of the Daala regime.
#### Arrest and trial
Shortly after recovering Seff Hellin, Tahiri Veila resigned her membership to Darkmeld. When Jaina Solo was forced to make compromises with Chief Daala, such as revealing the members of her secret organization within the Jedi Order, Veila's name was left out since she was no longer a member of Darkmeld. However, while residing in her apartment, Veila was confronted by Alliance military officers, who arrested the former Sith apprentice after charging her with the murder of the late Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon two years earlier.
She was brought to [trial](/article/trial_of_tahiri_veila) in the [Court of Jedi Affairs](/article/court_of_jedi_affairs), where Galactic Alliance [Judge](/article/judge-legends) [Arabelle Lorteli](/article/arabelle_lorteli) presided over the case. Lorteli prohibited the [Twi'lek](/article/twi%27lek-legends) [lawyer](/article/lawyer-legends) Nawara Ven from continuing to aid Veila in the case as he had in a previous trial. Ven's role was briefly filled by the [Bith](/article/bith-legends) [Mardek Mool](/article/mardek_mool), who sought to defend his client on the grounds that she was following orders from Darth Caedus. But when Mool attempted to convince Veila to spy on the Jedi Order for Chief of State Natasi Daala in exchange for leniency, Veila fired her lawyer, refusing to betray the Jedi a second time.
Ironically, Daala's attempts to convict Veila based on her assistance in Caedus' rise to power were seen as a double standard; military personnel like former [Admiral](/article/admiral-legends) [Cha Niathal](/article/cha_niathal) were not being targeted despite their cooperation with the late Sith Lord, revealing much of Daala's [Anti-Jedi sentiments](/article/anti-jedi_sentiment-legends). Daala attempted to counter the rising criticism against her by arresting Niathal, which in turn led to the [Mon Calamari's](/article/mon_calamari-legends) death by [suicide.
Meanwhile, Jaina Solo persuaded [Imperial](/article/imperial_remnant) [Head of State](/article/head_of_state-legends) [Jagged Fel](/article/jagged_fel) to hire a more efficient defense attorney for Tahiri Veila. Hence, Fel arranged for the [Bothan](/article/bothan-legends) [Eramuth Bwua'tu](/article/eramuth_bwua%27tu), uncle of Admiral [Nek Bwua'tu](/article/nek_bwua%27tu), to defend Veila against the Daala-influenced court. The [Chagrian](/article/chagrian-legends) lawyer represented the Galactic Alliance as the prosecutor in the case, and after Lorteli was dismissed by Daala due to the Jedi Order's considerable public support, the [Falleen](/article/falleen-legends) Judge [Mavari Zudan](/article/mavari_zudan) was appointed to preside over the rest of the trial.
With Bwua'tu as her lawyer, Veila began to make progress in the court. Throughout the trial, the Jedi Order stood steadfast in support of their former Knight, regardless of her former allegiance to Darth Caedus and her betrayal of the Jedi. But even with the support of her former comrades and Jagged Fel, Veila felt worried about her position, especially when Bwua'tu informed her that the prosecution had a strong case against her. Hence, unable to deny that she had indeed murdered Pellaeon, Veila's defense had to be based on the argument that she was not in the right state of mind during her time as Caedus' protégé. Like his predecessor, Bwua'tu asserted that his client was bound by military duty to obey her superior officer's orders. To evoke an emotional response from Veila, he contacted Dab Hantaq to make an appearance at the trial. Even though she was unsettled and upset to see the man who resembled Anakin Solo, her lawyer's plan succeeded in garnering the sympathy of the jury.
However, an audio recording was eventually recovered of her final conversation with Pellaeon right before she killed him, again turning the jury against her. Meanwhile, after an attack on Nek Bwua'tu left the Admiral in a coma, Veila began to fear that Eramuth was too distracted to properly carry out her defense, and, despite Eramuth's insistence to the contrary, took on the support of an additional lawyer, [Sardonne Sardon](/article/sardonne_sardon). Bwua'tu attempted to withdraw from the case, but Judge Zudan denied him; Bwua'tu then became increasingly disinterested in the trial. The addition of a second attorney ultimately harmed Veila's case as her two lawyers' different methods impeded her chances of passing the trial on the pretense of obeying orders. She then fired Sardon after realizing that Bwua'tu worked better alone. She soon learned that his acts of incompetence were to make Veila look good and not so much like a fool. He then released a holovid recorded on the _Bloodfin_ as evidence to prove that Veila had indeed acted on a direct order from her master when she executed Pellaeon during the Second Battle of Fondor.

As the proceedings of Tahiri Veila's trial concluded in the year [44 ABY](/article/44_aby), she tensely awaited the jury's decision. Concurrently, [Grand Master](/article/grand_master-legends) [Saba Sebatyne](/article/saba_sebatyne), serving in an acting capacity, and the Jedi Council were devising a scheme to depose Chief Daala before her administration could fully turn hostile toward the Jedi Order. With the implementation of [Plan Delta](/article/plan_delta), Jedi forces launched an assault on the [Executive Building](/article/republic_executive_building-legends), swiftly apprehending Daala before her security detail could mount a defense against the coup. Following the establishment of an agreement with the [elected officials](/article/senator-legends) comprising the [Galactic Alliance Senate](/article/galactic_alliance_senate)—most of whom welcomed Daala's removal and her stringent leadership style—the [Triumvirate](/article/triumvirate_(galactic_alliance)) was established as a provisional constitutional substitute for the [executive office of the](/article/office_of_the_chief_of_state) Chief of State. With the transfer of authority secured through Daala's downfall and Master Sebatyne's appointment as one of the three governing triumvirs, the Council initially intended to overturn the Galactic Alliance's legal action against Veila by leveraging its newly acquired executive powers. However, Sebatyne was ultimately, albeit reluctantly, convinced to allow Veila to face her judgment, primarily due to the precarious situation in which the coup had placed the Jedi Order.
The Jedi Council fully understood that maintaining control over the Alliance required the support of the Senate, the military, and, crucially, the populace. The Jedi were aware that demonstrating favoritism toward Veila, whose role in Pellaeon's death was widely known, would lead to accusations of partiality and undermine their legitimacy as leaders of the new government. By adopting a neutral stance on Veila's case, they aimed to mitigate much of the criticism directed at them. Consequently, Sebatyne reluctantly abandoned her initial plan to exonerate Veila through an executive order. Without the assistance of the Jedi triumvir, Veila was left to the court's discretion, which viewed the Order with suspicion, suspecting them of seeking permanent control over the Galactic Alliance. Even after the revelation that much of the prosecution's evidence had been manipulated, the jury developed a strong bias against the defendant. Upon finding her guilty of Gilad Pellaeon's murder, the jury handed down a death sentence. Veila was subsequently incarcerated in the [Armand Isard Correctional Facility](/article/armand_isard_correctional_facility), where she briefly encountered Daala, the ousted leader of the Galactic Alliance and the primary instigator of Veila's trial and conviction.
As a consequence of the Daala administration's overthrow, [Boba Fett](/article/boba_fett-legends), a [Mandalorian](/article/mandalorian-legends) [bounty hunter](/article/bounty_hunter-legends), infiltrated the correctional facility and extracted Natasi Daala with the intention of using her against the Jedi Order. Amidst the resulting chaos, Veila seized the opportunity created by her adversaries to [escape from prison](/article/escape_from_the_armand_isard_correctional_facility). Although she successfully vanished amidst the turmoil, Veila effectively became a fugitive without a home. As a wanted criminal within the Galactic Alliance's territory, Tahiri Veila found herself unable to flee Coruscant. Consequently, she sought refuge in a random apartment building to evade detection by Alliance authorities. With the majority of the Jedi absent from the [Temple](/article/new_jedi_temple) and lacking the Council's support for the time being, Veila realized that she would have to live as a fugitive for an indefinite period. Nevertheless, despite her perilous circumstances, Veila found solace in two outcomes of her escape—she was once again free and barefoot, and the realization of both facts brought her a degree of comfort and relief.
#### Atonement
Not long after her escape, Veila surrendered herself to [Han](/article/han_solo-legends) and [Leia Solo](/article/leia_organa_solo-legends), seeking their assistance. Despite having avoided execution while in the Galactic Alliance's custody, Veila had apparently relinquished her brief existence as an escaped convict. The Solos later handed her over to [Jagged Fel](/article/jagged_fel), the [Head of State](/article/head_of_state-legends) and leader of the Imperial Remnant. By this point, Veila was determined to atone for the actions she had committed under Darth Caedus's rule, particularly the assassination of Gilad Pellaeon during the Second Battle of Fondor. However, Fel had no desire to harm or kill the former Jedi Knight. Given the constant threats to his safety from opposing Moffs, Fel recruited Veila to serve as his personal [Force-sensitive](/article/force-sensitive-legends) [bodyguard](/article/bodyguard-legends).
Shortly thereafter, the [Imperial-Alliance conspiracy](/article/lecersen_conspiracy) was undermined and ultimately dismantled by the [Lost Tribe of Sith](/article/lost_tribe_of_sith) as they infiltrated the Galactic Alliance government. During the covert Sith takeover, Tahiri Veila was falsely accused of murdering [Sallinor Parova](/article/sallinor_parova), the [Chief of Naval Operations](/article/chief_of_naval_operations) and a participant in the conspiracy. Parova's death was orchestrated by [Ivaar Workan](/article/ivaar_workan), a Sith agent. However, Veila was in the [Meridian sector](/article/meridian_sector-legends) at the time, placing her far from Coruscant, where Parova's murder occurred.
Around this time, Moff [Tol Getelles](/article/tol_getelles) uncovered Natasi Daala's scheme to seize control of the Imperial Remnant. After feigning loyalty to the former Chief of State, Getelles deceived Daala into believing that he had assassinated Fel. Instead, he informed the High Moff of both the conspiracy and the secret location of Daala's [Maw Irregular Fleet](/article/maw_irregular_fleet). Tahiri Veila subsequently accompanied Fel, who led an armed force of Remnant loyalists and a vanguard unit of the [Empire of the Hand](/article/empire_of_the_hand), to the [Exodo system](/article/exodo_system). The initial phase of the [battle](/article/battle_over_exodo_ii) favored the Remnant, until Moff [Drikl Lecersen](/article/drikl_lecersen)'s forces successfully reinforced Daala's position in the battle. As Fel abandoned his [flagship](/article/flagship-legends), the _[Gilad Pellaeon](/article/gilad_pellaeon_(starship))_, with Veila and his [Chiss](/article/chiss-legends) [aide](/article/aide-legends), [Ashik](/article/kthira%27shi%27ktarloo), the conflict continued between the Imperial Remnant and the Maw Irregular Fleet.
#### Return to the Jedi
While technically a prisoner of the Imperial Remnant, Veila enjoyed considerable freedom in her unofficial role as Head of State Fel's personal bodyguard; she also served as an advisor and confidante to some extent. When Fel concluded that the Remnant could not sustain a civil war between his faction and Daala's, he decided to use the conflict as an opportunity to transform the Imperial authoritarian state into a society governed by democratic principles and institutions. Concurrently, Veila was dispatched on a mission to [Hagamoor 3](/article/hagamoor_3) to investigate [Abeloth](/article/abeloth)'s connection to Daala's forces. Boba Fett also traveled to the same location in search of a way to neutralize the Imperial-engineered nanovirus that kept him away from Mandalore. Despite his reluctance to collaborate with a former Jedi and Sith apprentice of Darth Caedus, Fett ultimately assisted Veila in her fight against Abeloth, who, at the time, inhabited the body of Imperial Lieutenant [Lydea Pagorski](/article/lydea_pagorski), one of Daala's allies. In return, Veila provided Fett with information that could potentially reverse the effects of the nanovirus.
After Jagged Fel stepped down as Head of State, enabling Admiral [Vitor Reige](/article/vitor_reige) to win the [election](/article/imperial_election_of_44_aby) against Daala, he and Tahiri Veila met with Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order on Coruscant during their final confrontation with Abeloth. By that time, Fel released Veila from her obligations as the Remnant's prisoner and [Imperial Hand](/article/emperor%27s_hand-legends), urging her to fully rejoin the ranks of the Jedi Order. Prior to Abeloth's defeat, Veila fought alongside Saba Sebatyne, who welcomed her former comrade back into the Order. Following the Jedi [victory](/article/liberation_of_coruscant_(lost_tribe_of_sith_emergence)) on Coruscant, Veila attended the [wedding](/article/wedding_of_jagged_fel_and_jaina_solo) of Jagged Fel and Jaina Solo.

In her childhood, Tahiri Veila possessed a disposition marked by optimism and a carefree spirit. Despite her appreciation for the time spent growing up among the [Tusken Raiders](/article/tusken_raider-legends) of [Tatooine](/article/tatooine-legends), Veila exhibited a strong fascination with [the Force](/article/the_force-legends), as well as her own [connection](/article/force-sensitive-legends) to it, and expressed a keen desire to be [inducted](/article/jedi_training-legends) into the practices of the [Jedi Order](/article/new_jedi_order). Even at a young age, she displayed a remarkable attention to detail and an ability to recall specific characteristics of subjects that captured her interest. Shortly after embarking on her path as a Jedi, Veila could readily recall numerous details about [Banthas](/article/bantha-legends), including their physical attributes and their utility for transportation in desert environments.
However, despite her affection for Tatooine and the people who had raised her, Veila felt a certain degree of antipathy towards the cultural aspects of the Tuskens, stemming from the harsh and nomadic lifestyle they led, coupled with Tatooine's arid climate. She found the requirement to cover her entire body in long robes irritating, and she particularly disliked having to conceal her face in accordance with Tusken tradition. The experiences of her childhood on Tatooine ultimately instilled in Veila a particular trait that persisted into adulthood: a phobia of footwear. Having spent her formative years on a surface primarily covered in hot sand, Veila relished her newfound freedom as a Jedi to walk barefoot whenever she chose. She delighted in the sensation of feeling the cold surface of the [Great Temple](/article/great_temple-legends) on [Yavin 4](/article/yavin_4-legends) beneath her feet. With few exceptions, Veila spent the majority of her early life without shoes.
Upon commencing her initiation into the ranks of the Jedi Order, Tahiri Veila immediately felt drawn to another young initiate named [Anakin Solo](/article/anakin_solo), the grandson and namesake of the fallen [Sith Lord](/article/sith_lord-legends) [Darth Vader](/article/anakin_skywalker-legends). The two eventually forged a friendship that endured into their adolescence. Throughout their shared experiences, Veila became Solo's closest friend and confidante, often reassuring him that he was not destined to succumb to the [dark side](/article/dark_side_of_the_force-legends) like his namesake.
The events of the [Yuuzhan Vong War](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war) virtually shattered Tahiri Veila's youthful innocence and optimistic outlook. Shortly after being taken captive by the enemy, Veila was subjected to experimentation by the [Shaper](/article/shaper_caste) [Mezhan Kwaad](/article/mezhan_kwaad), resulting in the development of an artificial [Yuuzhan Vong](/article/yuuzhan_vong) persona known as "Riina Kwaad," which was based on the memories of Nen Yim. Although Veila's personality remained dominant, the Riina identity sought to gain control of her body by manipulating Veila into embracing the dark side. Veila ultimately managed to force a merging of herself and Riina, thereby ensuring her continued control over her own body.
The Riina Kwaad personality was the first of two major factors during the war that ultimately transformed Tahiri Veila; the second factor was the death of Anakin Solo. For years, she grieved the loss of the boy she had come to love and regretted her decision to deny him a kiss before his death. Without Solo, Veila gradually became more withdrawn, somber, and pragmatic. The period between the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War and the beginning of the Second Galactic Civil War marked the demise of the idealistic young girl who had once been Tahiri Veila, as she descended further into depression, never fully recovering from the devastating loss of her closest friend.
Her lingering attachment to the late Anakin Solo served as the primary catalyst for her fall to the dark side of the Force. [Darth Caedus](/article/darth_caedus), Anakin's older brother and the first active [Dark Lord of the Sith](/article/dark_lord_of_the_sith-legends) since the reign of [Darth Sidious](/article/palpatine-legends), eventually chose the emotionally vulnerable Tahiri Veila as his [apprentice](/article/sith_apprentice-legends). Although his initial intention was merely to use her as a spy within the Jedi Order, the failure to corrupt [Ben Skywalker](/article/ben_skywalker) elevated Veila to the position of the next most suitable candidate. After personally experiencing Caedus's [flow-walking](/article/flow-walking) ability, Veila immediately became addicted to the technique, which allowed her to revisit past events and see Anakin before his death. However, the limited duration of their flow-walking sessions, coupled with her mistaken belief that the past could be altered, led Veila to develop a strong addiction to the flow-walking ability. As a result, she became incredibly dependent on Darth Caedus, to the point where she renounced her allegiance to the Jedi Order with little hesitation or regret.
The time she spent in the Dark Lord's presence caused Veila to gradually adopt several of Darth Caedus's traits, such as ruthlessness and a willingness to save the [Galactic Alliance](/article/galactic_federation_of_free_alliances) by embracing pain and sacrifice. As she delved deeper into Caedus's [teachings](/article/sith_training) and the ways of the Sith, Veila became increasingly devoted to his cause and frequently attempted to ingratiate herself to him. She willingly assisted her new Master in various ways, such as by hunting down fugitive Jedi and by initiating a pact between the Galactic Alliance and the [Imperial Remnant](/article/imperial_remnant). Although she disappointed Caedus by failing to discern the location of the Jedi Order's secret base, as well as by continuously clinging to her attachment to the memory of Anakin Solo, Veila succeeded in pleasing him through other means. By spying on her former Jedi comrades, she developed a talent for deceit and treachery; she showed the promise of becoming a shrewd manipulator by enticing [Grand Admiral](/article/grand_admiral-legends) [Gilad Pellaeon](/article/gilad_pellaeon-legends) to support the Alliance's war effort. Most importantly, however, she was willing to kill when absolutely necessary, but never reveled or found any pleasure in it. Caedus considered Veila's disgust and remorse with killing to be an essential trait for a Sith Lord, especially given his desire to avoid the common pitfalls of slipping into vanity, greed, and extreme psychotic behavior—the typical behavioral patterns of past Sith Lords.

</InsImage>
From launching a first strike on [Fondorian](/article/fondorian) [starfighters](/article/starfighter-legends) to executing Pellaeon for treachery, Tahiri Veila demonstrated to Darth Caedus that she would not hesitate to take the lives of others when it was absolutely necessary, even though she personally detested such actions. Further evidence of her loyalty and devotion to the Sith cause was seen in her efforts to sever her ties to the Jedi by emulating the Dark Lord. After becoming an [enlisted officer](/article/junior_lieutenant-legends) in the [Galactic Alliance Guard](/article/galactic_alliance_guard), Veila donned a smart blue uniform with—much to her discomfort—black military-issued boots. She even styled her hair to enhance the appearance of a proper [female](/article/gender-legends) officer in the [military](/article/galactic_alliance_defense_force).
Once she officially became Darth Caedus's apprentice, Tahiri Veila made significant progress in embracing her new Sith identity. She actively participated in the Galactic Alliance Guard's [secret police](/article/secret_police) activities, became the Dark Lord's chief enforcer, and endeavored to win the [Second Galactic Civil War](/article/second_galactic_civil_war) by annihilating the enemies of the Galactic Alliance and Caedus's [New Order](/article/new_order_(darth_caedus)). Furthermore, she sought to imitate her Master in both behavior and appearance, primarily by wearing a GAG uniform, complemented by a black robe. As Caedus bitterly lamented the betrayals of his closest friends and loved ones, Veila became the only person whom he could—to a certain degree—trust and confide in. As a result, Veila may have been engaged in a physical relationship with her Master, though there was never any illusion of love between them.
## Powers and abilities
### Lightsaber skills
As a [trained](/article/jedi_training-legends) Jedi Knight, Tahiri Veila possessed proficiency in both [Force-based techniques](/article/force_power-legends) and [lightsaber combat](/article/lightsaber_combat-legends). When necessary, Veila combined her swordsmanship with hand-to-hand combat skills, as demonstrated in her duel with Leia Organa Solo during the Second Galactic Civil War. Like many modern Jedi, and thus in contrast to the [original Order](/article/jedi_order-legends), Veila carried a [blaster pistol](/article/blaster_pistol-legends) as a sidearm in addition to her lightsaber. During her duel with Ben Skywalker, Tahiri Veila effectively utilized [Tràkata](/article/tr%c3%a0kata-legends). When Skywalker forced her lightsaber aside, Tahiri switched her lightsaber off and on so rapidly that Skywalker barely had time to react, enabling her to extend the blade to where his throat had been just moments before.
### Force powers
#### As a Jedi Knight
#### As a Sith Lord
Lumiya voiced her belief that Veila was unworthy of becoming Darth Caedus's apprentice simply because she was not a descendant of Darth Vader. However, after the Dark Lady's death, Caedus proved her wrong.
Upon becoming Caedus's apprentice, Veila's abilities as a [Force-wielder](/article/force-sensitive-legends) and a lightsaber duelist were amplified by the [dark side of the Force](/article/dark_side_of_the_force-legends). Her [aggression](/article/force_enrage) in combat increased, as evidenced in her [duels](/article/lightsaber_duel-legends) with Ben Skywalker on Coruscant and Shedu Maad. Veila's conversion also endowed her with new Force abilities generated by dark side-related emotions, such as [hatred](/article/hatred) and anger. Although she succeeded in wielding the [Sith](/article/sith-legends) signature attack known as Force lightning, her control over her new dark powers remained underdeveloped. When she electrocuted Captain Lon Shevu, intending only to inflict pain, Veila inadvertently killed him by increasing the lightning to a level that his body could not withstand.
As a combatant, Tahiri Veila possessed the fortitude to endure a significant amount of physical pain while remaining capable of continuing a fight. She demonstrated her ability to withstand pain without losing consciousness during a failed attempt to arrest Leia and Han Solo. Veila also sustained severe damage on the _Bloodfin_ during the Second Battle of Fondor, yet managed to endure her injuries long enough to be rescued by her Master, Darth Caedus.
## Behind the scenes
Tahiri made her initial appearance in _Junior Jedi Knights: The Golden Globe_, and played a role in the [New Jedi Order](/article/star_wars:_the_new_jedi_order), [Dark Nest](/article/star_wars:_the_dark_nest_trilogy), _Star Wars: Legacy of the Force_, and [Fate of the Jedi](/article/star_wars:_fate_of_the_jedi) series. Early in the conceptualization of these storylines, [Master](/article/jedi_master-legends) [Ikrit](/article/ikrit) prophesied that Tahiri and Anakin would give birth to something great. However, at that time, the plan was for Anakin, rather than Jacen, to be the Solo son who lived to become a great hero.
During Tahiri's [trial](/article/trial_of_tahiri_veila) in _Fate of the Jedi: Allies_, it was suggested that Tahiri and Jacen had engaged in a purely physical, non-romantic relationship, which sparked questions among fans. In an interview, [Aaron Allston](/article/aaron_allston) told fans, "_Didn't happen in my book_," but [Troy Denning](/article/troy_denning) stated that whether or not this had occurred was open to the reader's interpretation.
