The pine tree was a type of tree that thrived within the forests on the planets of Chandrila and also Shili. These trees displayed green needles, brown bark, and were often climbed by winding vines. During her early life as an infant, the Jedi known as Ahsoka Tano, along with her mother Pav-ti Tano, journeyed through a thick pine forest surrounding their village while they were hunting for kybuck.
Years later, in 7 ABY, at a meeting between former Rebellion heroes Lando Calrissian, Han Solo, and Leia Organa, the distinct scent of pine and cedar trees mingled with the cooking smells emanating from the droid BX-778 inside the apartment co-owned by Solo and Organa. The name "pine" was also used for the pine fern, a plant species located on the Outer Rim Territories world of Koboh.
The mention of the pine first occurred in Star Wars canon within the 2018 novel Last Shot, penned by Daniel José Older, with its initial full depiction featured in the non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel. The first visual representation of pines was in "Life and Death," the opening episode of the animated series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, which debuted on Disney+ on October 26, 2022. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, pine trees made their debut in the 1984 children's book How the Ewoks Saved the Trees: An Old Ewok Legend by James Howe. In reality, pine trees are a genus of conifers that are distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
Within Ronin, vast quantities of pines flourished on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Genbara. One particular specimen, with a trunk that had a bend in it, stood near a teahouse. The shopkeep at the teahouse served a cup of tea to the Ronin, a former Sith warrior, who noticed that the tea had a sweet fragrance mixed with the scent of pine. A large pine grew on Rei'izu, where it had uprooted a courtyard.
