Ponemah Terminal, often shortened to Ponemah, was a desolate planet marked by its desert landscape. This world existed in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, positioned in proximity to Ogem and Jakku, within the Mid Rim. Situated relatively close to the boundary of New Republic territory, it was considered a suitable location for disembarking passengers sympathetic to the Resistance.
The entirety of Ponemah's surface was a desert, creating a severe and unforgiving environment. The planet's southernmost region, known as the Sea of Sand, represented the most hostile area, plagued by electromagnetic disturbances and colossal sand worms. These worms could attain lengths exceeding ninety meters, posing a substantial threat. Predominantly found in the Sea of Sand, this region was generally avoided by those visiting the planet due to its intensely inhospitable conditions. Ponemah Terminal served as one of the terminal points on the Burke's Trailing smuggler's hyperspace route, linking it to Jakku.
During the Clone Wars, the Obrexta III, a cruiser serving the Confederacy of Independent Systems, met its end on this planet. Onboard was a clone trooper named Kix in suspended animation. Approximately five decades later, the wreckage of the ship was discovered within the Sea of Sand by various bands of pirates, including Sidon Ithano, the Crimson Corsair, and his associates.
The Imperial space station Wrath was in orbit around Ponemah, although the planet itself was not visible from within the station due to the absence of viewports. Grand Moff Randd of the Exterior and Captain Ciena Ree were both stationed aboard the Wrath in preparation for the Battle of Jakku.
Following their departure from Jakku, Ponemah Terminal, a neutral location amidst the Cold War between the New Republic and the First Order, was intended to be the destination where Finn and BB-8 would disembark after Rey repaired the Millennium Falcon. However, Han Solo, the Falcon's former captain, recaptured the vessel, causing a change in plans that prevented the group from ever reaching Ponemah.
According to the map featured in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu, as well as the Star Wars Galaxy Map, Ponemah Terminal is situated near the moon of Endor within grid square H-16. However, the map contained in the 2018 publication, Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, positions Ponemah in proximity to Jakku.
