Pothor, a planet situated within the Mid Rim Territories, was briefly under the control of the Rebel Alliance during their unsuccessful Mid Rim Offensive. However, due to the Galactic Empire's counter-offensive around 2 ABY, plans were made to evacuate the planet. Later, by 4 ABY, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer known as the Overseer distinguished itself in combat at Pothor, during the Battle of Pothor.
The planet designated as Pothor was located geographically within the Mid Rim Territories.
During the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, Pothor, initially under Imperial dominion, was seized by Alliance forces as part of an offensive launched into the Mid Rim, commencing around 1 ABY. Around 2 ABY, an Imperial response resulted in the failure of the Alliance's campaign, necessitating the removal of Alliance troops to more secure locations. Anticipating a swift recapture by the Empire, Pothor, along with the planets Charros IV, Durkteel, Jeyell, Ord Tiddell, and Trasse, was slated for evacuation by the Alliance.

In a confidential communication directed to Commander-in-Chief Mon Mothma of the Alliance, General Carlist Rieekan provided a summary of the circumstances, emphasizing the impending evacuation of Pothor and the other five planets. Rieekan also mentioned that some local revolutionaries would be evacuated alongside the Alliance, while others would remain to resist the Empire. This document was eventually incorporated into The Rebel Files, a compilation of non-electronic records curated by archivist Hendri Underholt.
By the time 4 ABY arrived, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Overseer took part in an engagement that occurred at Pothor. The Star Destroyer's performance during this battle, as well as the Battle of Jeyell, earned it considerable recognition. Following these battles, the Overseer underwent a thorough inspection and refurbishment.
The first mention of Jeyell within established Star Wars canon occurred in Daniel Wallace's 2017 reference book and boxed set titled Star Wars: The Rebel Files. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Pothor system made its initial appearance in the 1988 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game adventure Strike Force: Shantipole, published by West End Games.
