Prakas

Prakas was a commander in the Galactic Republic Navy who fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. He participated in a rescue mission in 21 BBY to extract the scientist Galen Erso and his family from the planet Vallt and ensure the Republic could take back the world.

When Lieutenant Commander Orson Krennic secured the Ersos aboard his light freighter, Krennic's team contacted Prakas, who had arrived in the star system on his cruiser. Krennic briefed Prakas on the resistance they anticipated, and Prakas then commenced his attack.

Biography

During the Clone Wars, a galactic-scale conflict between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic, Prakas served in the Republic Military's naval forces. He achieved the rank of commander and served on a Republic cruiser. In 21 BBY, Prakas was involved in a mission sanctioned by a Republic admiral and Zerpen Industries, who aimed to reclaim their ignition facility. The planet of Vallt had been seized by the Confederacy, and the scientist Galen Walton Erso had been captured by the new Separatist regime. Knowing that some anti-Separatist legions remained on Vallt, Prakas was tasked with leading an assault after Lieutenant Commander Orson Callan Krennic rescued Erso—who the Republic hoped would contribute to a highly classified battle station project—and his family during a prisoner exchange.

Prakas bided his time until Orson Krennic had completed the Erso family's rescue before initiating his assault on Vallt.

While Prakas and his cruiser were awaiting the signal to begin the attack, Krennic, posing as a representative of Zerpen Industries, arrived at Vallt's spaceport aboard the light freighter Good Tidings, a smuggling ship commanded by Has Obitt and staffed by several human direct action operatives. After the Ersos were brought on board, having been exchanged for two Separatist scientists, Nan Pakota and Urshe Torr, Krennic, while securing himself, instructed his communications technician to immediately contact Prakas as soon as the Good Tidings departed, aiming to ensure the commander allowed them sufficient time to escape before commencing the attack.

As the light freighter came under fire from a Confederate warship, Prakas's cruiser, adhering to the established plan, emerged from hyperspace at a predetermined location within the star system and contacted the Good Tidings, informing Krennic that his forces were prepared. Krennic cautioned Prakas about the enemy forces he had observed at the spaceport—specifically, fifty battle droids and a Settie-class drop ship that he warned could be airborne—before instructing Prakas to target the planetary capital, the Keep, once those forces were neutralized. Despite Lyra Erso's, Erso's wife's, immediate objection to Krennic's directive, Prakas proceeded with his attack as the Good Tidings made its escape. The strategy proved successful; Vallt was reclaimed by the Republic, which intended to utilize the world as a strategic base.
