The Republic Starfighter Corps functioned as the starfighter arm of the Galactic Republic. While under the command of the Republic Navy, it was recognized as an independent fighting force. This Starfighter Corps played a significant role in numerous battles of the Clone Wars against the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
During the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic's Starfighter Corps operated as a distinct combat branch against the Separatist Alliance.
Following the transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire, the Republic Starfighter Corps was restructured and renamed the Imperial Starfighter Corps. This new corps was integrated into the Imperial Navy, reflecting the navy's strategic shift towards reliance on capital ships.
Although administratively part of the Republic Navy, the Republic Starfighter Corps was considered a separate military branch within the larger Republic Military. It encompassed a variety of squadrons, including but not limited to Blue Squadron, Group Two, Clone Flight Squad Seven, Gold Squadron, Shadow Squadron, Razor Squadron, and Red Squadron.

Being a dedicated Starfighter Corps, this military division employed a diverse selection of starfighters and bombers during its engagements with the Separatist forces. Initially, V-19 Torrent starfighters served as the primary fighter, but they were largely superseded by ARC-170 starfighters and Clone Z-95 Headhunters. As the war progressed, the ARC-170 remained the mainstay, augmented by Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighters. The V-wing had two versions, the Alpha-3B "Besh" and Alpha-3E "Esk".
Interceptors were also part of the fleet. Jedi Generals and Jedi Commanders often piloted starships such as Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors, Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptors, and Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptors. Furthermore, Bombers such as the BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bombers and Cord-class starfighters were utilized.
The Republic's Starfighter Corps made its initial, though uncredited, appearance in the 2005 Star Wars saga installment, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
