Serving the Galactic Republic throughout the Clone Wars against the Separatist Alliance, Red Squadron was a starfighter squadron. This squadron participated in the Second Battle of Geonosis, bolstering Republic forces stationed at Point Rain.
A bomber squadron within the Republic Starfighter Corps, Red Squadron utilized at least a dozen BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bombers. These craft were distinguished by red markings, signifying their unit affiliation.

During the Clone Wars, Red Squadron was part of the Starfighter Corps of the Republic Navy. In 21 BBY, they participated in the Second Battle of Geonosis between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance. Red Squadron provided essential air support for LAAT/i gunships deployed to secure the ground on Geonosis. Several of their BTL Y-wing starfighters operated near Separatist core ships and artillery.
Prior to the arrival of the LAAT/i gunships and LAAT carriers, Red Squadron was deployed from a Republic fleet. After the initial wave of [landing craft], transporting the 7th Sky Corps, encountered Geonosian anti-air fire, a portion of Red Squadron's bombers targeted and destroyed a section of J-1 proton cannons.

As the 501st Legion and a battalion under Clone Commander Jet landed in subsequent waves, Red Squadron's Y-wings engaged in aerial combat with Geonosian Nantex-class fighters near the Republic fleet. Facing the separation of Republic ground units, Commander Jet requested air reinforcements from Admiral Wullf Yularen, who initially stated that no resources were available. Following the transmission, Yularen instructed a clone navigation officer to gather every available starfighter he could find.
Jedi General Anakin Skywalker contacted Admiral Yularen, requesting starfighter reinforcements as Jet's battalion linked up with the 501st Legion and the 7th Sky Corps faced being overrun. Yularen informed Skywalker of the availability of a single squadron. As the Point Rain landing zone, held by the 7th Sky Corps, neared collapse, an ARF trooper spotted Red Squadron and announced their arrival to his comrades. Red Squadron then flew low over the staging area, bombing and eliminating the advancing Separatist forces as the remaining ground troops reached Point Rain. With all ground units united, they commenced their assault on the ray shield generator of the primary droid foundry's.
Red Squadron first appeared, though unnamed, in "Landing at Point Rain," the fifth episode of the second season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which aired in 2009. Their identity was later confirmed in the BTL-B Y-Wing Expansion Pack for the Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition miniatures game by Fantasy Flight Games, through the "Red Squadron Bomber" card released in 2019.
