The RIC-1200, also known as the tour guide droid, represented a model within the RIC-series general labor droid line, specifically engineered for conducting guided tours.
These tour guide droids featured an exterior covered by plates of varying gray hues. They possessed a pair of arms, each culminating in a three-clawed hand. Mobility was achieved via two wheels situated at the base of their structure. A screen on their head allowed for the display of multiple facial expressions. The body design of tour guide droids was consistent with that of the RIC-series general labor droid.
During the Shadow Collective's takeover of the planet Mandalore, a tour guide droid was in the process of greeting a group of Shadow Collective soldiers at Peace Park, located in the New Mandalorians' capital city of Sundari. One of the soldiers then blasted him in the face, resulting in the droid's destruction.
In 2 BBY, the former Sith Lord [Maul](/article/maul] utilized several reprogrammed tour guide droids following the capture of the crew of the starship Ghost. He transported both the crew and their ship to an old Mandalorian supply outpost. These droids, armed with blaster rifles, were tasked with guarding the imprisoned crewmembers for Maul. Maul held the crew hostage to coerce Jedi Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger into surrendering a Sith holocron. While awaiting the Jedi's arrival, the captives launched an assault on their droid guards, seizing their blasters for use against Maul. However, they were quickly subdued and returned to confinement.
Upon arriving at the outpost, Bridger and Jarrus encountered Maul, who was accompanied by two reprogrammed tour guide droids. Maul instructed the droids to escort Bridger to the outpost's command center, while he forcibly ejected Jarrus into space via one of the outpost's airlocks. Despite being caught off guard, Jarrus swiftly re-entered the outpost. At the command center, Maul commanded one of the droids to execute the prisoners. Just before the droids could fulfill this order, Jarrus intervened, destroying them with his lightsaber.
This droid model made its initial appearance in "Shades of Reason," the fifteenth episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' fifth season. Dave Filoni, the supervising director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, provided the voice for the tour guide that appeared in this episode. Although the model's designation was not explicitly mentioned within the episode, it was identified as a tour guide droid in the end credits. The tour guide droid's design was conceived by concept artist Chris Glenn.
