Safwan

Safwan was a male hybrid being, the result of a pairing between a human and a Twi'lek. He served as the second-in-command for Ana Tolla, a smuggler, and her crew. In the year 34 ABY, Safwan accompanied his fellow crew members to the planet of Batuu, located in the Outer Rim. Their objective was to destroy the farm belonging to Kat Saka. Before their mission commenced, Safwan was caught in a riot within Black Spire Outpost, sustaining injuries to his face and arm.

During their operation at the farm, Tolla tasked Safwan with loading crates onto a ship alongside Lita, a Ketzalian. However, Safwan's injuries slowed him down. After being assaulted in the farm's storehouse by Julen Rakab, the farmer whom the crew had abducted to aid their cause, Safwan attempted to escape with Lita aboard the ship. Nevertheless, Delta Jeet, the pilot, prevented their flight to hyperspace by using a blaster to wound them both.

Biography

Tolla's crew

Safwan was injured in a riot within Black Spire Outpost on Batuu.

As a human-Twi'lek hybrid, Safwan was a part of the crew led by the smuggler Ana Tolla. He ascended to the position of Tolla's second-in-command in 29 ABY. In 34 ABY, Safwan journeyed with his comrades to a cantina situated on the planet Actlyon in the Outer Rim Territories. The crew enjoyed refreshments at the cantina, but they were soon forced to flee when bounty hunters raided the establishment. Safwan then followed his colleagues back to Tolla's ship, abandoning their former associate Izal Garsea as per their leader's instructions.

After departing Actlyon, Safwan and the rest of Tolla's crew made their way to the Outer Rim planet Batuu for their subsequent operation. While there, Safwan was trampled during a riot in Black Spire Outpost, resulting in bruises on his face and a broken arm, which he supported with a sling. Safwan's colleague Damar Olin informed Garsea about Safwan's injuries while attempting to persuade her to rejoin Tolla's crew, but she declined.

Mission at Kat Saka's farm

Safwan and his crew attempted to destroy the farm of Kat Saka (pictured) on Batuu.

Safwan played a role in abducting Julen Rakab, a farmer, with the intention of using him to assist in the destruction of Kat Saka's farm. Garsea, a friend of Rakab's who had been in his company since being abandoned by Tolla's crew, was also taken as a guarantee of his compliance. However, Delta Jeet, the pilot, did not deliver her to the crew as Tolla had ordered, choosing instead to collaborate with Garsea against the smuggler's plans. Shortly after arriving at the farm, Safwan voiced his disagreement with his leader's decision to remove Rakab's cuffs, believing that the farmer could pose a threat.

Inside the farm's seed storehouse, Safwan assisted his Ketzalian colleague, Lita, in loading crates onto the crew's ship. His arm injury slowed him down, and Rakab questioned whether Safwan would receive a reduced share for doing less work. Olin sternly told the farmer to be quiet and assured Safwan that this would not be the case. Safwan, Lita, and Olin began to argue, leading the human-Twi'lek to assert his authority over Olin and send him to prepare their ship for departure instead of causing a distraction. After Olin left, Rakab attacked Safwan and Lita, throwing a crate at Safwan's injured shoulder. Safwan cried out in pain, and the farmer seized the opportunity to steal his blaster and stun Lita.

After both recovered, Safwan and Lita exited the storehouse and attempted to use Tolla's ship to escape. Rakab followed them to the vessel but was unable to capture either of them. Rakab then gave Delta Jeet the blaster he had taken from Safwan, and she boarded the smugglers' ship. Safwan and Lita's escape attempt was foiled by Jeet, who injured both of them with a blaster, preventing their takeoff. Their failed flight resulted in damage to Rakab's recently acquired ship, which he had repaired after the skirmish.

Personality and traits

Safwan possessed a confident and self-assured demeanor, feeling secure in his position as Ana Tolla's second-in-command. He was unfriendly towards Julen Rakab, the farmer who had been abducted to aid his crew's operation, and considered him dangerous without restraints. While Safwan had a functional rapport with his colleague Lita, he argued with Damar Olin and was willing to use his authority to remove him from the situation. Olin also harbored negative feelings towards the human-Twi'lek, blaming him for jeopardizing the crew's mission by getting injured in the riots. Safwan was prepared to abandon Tolla to save himself when their Batuu mission failed.

Safwan was a male with light-peach skin and lekku that were pale coral in color, fading into a variety of colors at the tips. The smuggler's muscular arms were extensively decorated with tattoos. At the time of his trip to Batuu, he appeared youthful. Following the riot in Black Spire Outpost, Safwan sustained injuries that included blue bruises on the left side of his face.

Equipment

While at a cantina on Actylon, Safwan wore a piece of outerwear. After being injured in the riot on Batuu, he used a sling to support his broken arm. During the operation at Kat Saka's farm, Safwan carried a blaster in a holster on his side. Julen Rakab stole the weapon from him when the smuggler was dazed after being struck with a crate.

Behind the scenes

Safwan's first appearance was in A Crash of Fate, a young-adult novel from 2019 authored by Zoraida Córdova.
