Shawnkyr Nuruodo was a Chiss officer of the female gender, serving within Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx. She was also a pilot who flew a Clawcraft.
Born into the notable Nuruodo family, Shawnkyr achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and held the position of cadet commander at the military academy situated in the Rata Nebula by the age of twelve standard years. It was there that she first encountered Jagged Fel, a Human trainee who was two years older. Following the successful defense against a raid carried out by the Cavrilhu Pirates, she relinquished her leadership role among the cadets to him.
Sometime in the subsequent years, Shawnkyr became a member of Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx. By 25 ABY, during the [Yuuzhan Vong War](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war], she held the position of executive officer under Fel aboard the force Spike, serving with him during the Battle of Garqi. In 27 ABY, she was the sole pilot to accompany Fel on his reconnaissance mission into what was formerly New Republic territory. On Hapes, despite standing orders against interference, she aided Fel in the recruitment of volunteer pilots, who would later form Vanguard Squadron.
Later, she assumed command of the squadron when Fel joined Twin Suns Squadron. The record is silent as to whether she remained with Vanguard Squadron when a full complement of Clawcraft arrived to support the New Republic. Following the major victory over the Yuuzhan Vong at Ebaq 9 in 28 ABY, she returned to Chiss space to provide an update on the war's progress. However, she returned to the front lines during the final stages of the conflict, and when the surviving Clawcraft from the Chiss squadron were integrated into Twin Suns Squadron, she flew as Twin Suns Four during the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar.
Shawnkyr Nuruodo, in her capacity as a Chiss officer and TIE pilot within the Empire of the Hand, donned a black flight suit adorned with red piping, symbolizing the Red Flame—representing courage, cunning, and the pursuit of perfection in Chiss culture. She piloted a Nssis-class Clawcraft.
The uncertainty surrounding Shawnkyr's age arises from questions about the chronological placement of the short story Red Sky, Blue Flame, which marks her earliest appearance in the timeline. Furthermore, her name deviates from the established conventions of Chiss names, likely because Elaine Cunningham, the author, was not informed of the existing naming patterns during the writing of The New Jedi Order novels.
