The Sinrich optical dephaser, also called the optical dephaser, was essentially a miniaturized cloaking device designed to be worn on the hand, resembling a gauntlet. Its applications were diverse, encompassing things like making vehicles undetectable and providing invisible camouflage.

The optical dephaser, or Sinrich optical dephaser, was a Chiss technological marvel: a reduced-scale cloaking device that granted invisibility to the user or whatever it was applied to. Its versatility allowed for uses such as concealing vehicles, providing camouflage for hunting, and aiding in hand-to-hand combat. The device's small size meant the optical dephaser could be fashioned into a gauntlet worn on the hand.
Furthermore, overuse could lead to the cloaking device burning out. Functionally, the optical dephaser shared similarities with the holographic disguise matrix, an invention of the Snivvian bounty hunter Sinrich. Intriguingly, despite its Chiss origins, the device was ineffective on Chiss species. Unique variations of the Sinrich optical dephaser existed, exemplified by the one used by the Noghri assassin Rukh. His particular device required the conductivity of Noghri's double-layered skin for activation and had a limited operational time of just three minutes per charge.

During the Imperial–Grysk conflict in 2 BBY, Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, observed that Rukh's cloaking technology originated from the Chiss. Grand Admiral [Thrawn](/article/mitth%27raw%27nuruodo] corroborated this, while also pointing out the device's inability to function on Chiss individuals. A year later, shortly after the Spectres' rescue of Hera Syndulla on the planet Lothal, Rukh employed the Sinrich optical dephaser in combat against Sabine Wren and Garazeb Orrelios of the Spectres crew. In 9 ABY, Glikkin, a Kubaz Hunter, utilized the cloaking device while participating in the Hunters of the Outer Rim sporting event on the planet Vespaara.
