The Kubaz were a sentient species of insectoid beings native to the planet of Kubindi. Their diet consisted of insects; they utilized their elongated snout to extract their insect prey from within hives. This practice resulted in strained relations with other sentient insectoid species, such as the Geonosians, despite the Kubaz's own insect origins. Recognizable by their dark skin, elongated snouts, and sensitive eyesight that necessitated protective eyewear, their overall appearance bore a resemblance to the northern Mustafarians. Due to the structure of their vocal cords, Kubaz were unable to pronounce the phonemes of Galactic Basic Standard, and their language was composed of whirring sounds.
The Kubaz once employed a written language known as Ancient Kubaz by the time of the High Republic Era. The Galactic Empire conquered the Kubaz, falsely claiming they could be allies. The Empire subjected Kubaz to slavery and attempted to brainwash them into becoming spies.
Garindan ezz Zavor, a member of this species, functioned as an informant who provided information to the highest bidder. Having evaded Imperial brainwashing while retaining his free will, he sought to liberate his people, even if it required working for the Empire in the interim. Another individual, Ooblamon, was a junk dealer on Taris who asserted that he had recovered Darth Vader's red-bladed lightsaber. Rikard Lovas was another Kubaz, a male banker who frequently conducted business on the planet Jakku and accumulated gambling debts to the Irving Boys.
During the Rix Road riot on Ferrix in 5 BBY, a Kubaz was among the participants. Another Kubaz served as a ferryman on the ice planet Pagodon circa 9 ABY. Additionally, a Kubaz worked as a bounty hunter who was pursuing Grogu on Sorgan. The Kubaz named Glikkin rose to prominence as a Master Thief and a competitor in the Hunters of the Outer Rim. Glikkin originated from the lower levels of the planet of Coruscant, a fact he vowed to remember.
