Kubindi

The planet called Kubindi, located within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, served as the original homeworld for the insectivorous Kubaz species. This world was found in the Outer Rim Territories. The Galactic Empire subjected its inhabitants to slavery, prompting Garindan ezz Zavor, a Kubaz spy and Kubindi native, to devise a strategy to liberate his planet and its people from Imperial oppression.

Description

Kubindi, a planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy at grid coordinates T-9 on the Standard Galactic Grid, possessed connections to the astronomical entities Formos and Junkfort Station through the Triellus Trade Route.

History

For an extended duration, the Galactic Empire actively sabotaged the technological progress of the Kubaz, aiming to prevent their departure from their homeworld of Kubindi. However, sometime after the founding of the Alliance to Restore the Republic in 2 BBY, the Empire manipulated the species into thinking the Alliance was responsible for the sabotage.

Consequently, the Empire pledged to assist the Kubaz in gaining prominence in galactic trade and politics. In return, fifty-one students, including Garindan ezz Zavor, were handpicked from Kubindi's academies to supposedly study under the Empire as diplomats before returning with accolades to their mates and hives.

In reality, these students were forced into servitude and trained as spies. Simultaneously, the rest of Kubindi's inhabitants were forced into slavery, and an Imperial blockade was established in the planet's orbit, though the Kubaz remained unaware of the Empire's treachery. Nevertheless, Garindan's indoctrination failed, and by the year 0 BBY, he was actively formulating a plan to liberate his world and its Kubaz population from the Empire's oppressive rule.

Inhabitants

Kubindi was the native planet of the sentient Kubaz, a hive-minded species of insectivores that lived in clans. As a cultured society governed by elders, they communicated in Kubazian, a language characterized by unique whirring sounds, and received education in crèches and academies. Garindan ezz Zavor belonged to a respected clan on Kubindi, renowned for breeding and farming a highly sought-after variety of picolet beetle. Kubaz rarely ventured beyond their world.

Behind the scenes

Kubindi, as depicted in the Star Wars Legends continuity

Kubindi was initially referenced within the new Star Wars canon through Star Wars: Force Collection, a mobile card game that was originally released on September 4, 2013. While the release of Force Collection occurred before the franchise's canon reset of April 25, 2014, Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee verified that the game was consistently updated to align with canon.

Kubindi was originally conceptualized for Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a 1989 Star Wars Legends supplement authored by Troy Denning for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
